Point is that some of the guys are saying that they don't expect round 1 draft selections to play in their first season and we should view them as a 2-3 year plan and I assume play them in the VFL in the meantime.

Hardwick said first rounders should play seniors in their first season.

If you look at the champions of the game, they all appear to back up Hardwicks theory.

Comments against draft picks like plenty of upside may never eventuate and you will be waiting a long long time to find out.

That's fairly easy for Hardwick to say when in the last 6 years his clubs first round selections have been made of Martin, Conca, B and C Ellis, Vlastin and Lennon.

With the recruitment of Bird, would Coughlan we unlikely?

Those who watch VFL, who would you you prefer out of Coughlan vs NOB, Coughlan vs Kav?
Cogs is better than both easily.

Seems the top 3 is locked away according to Twomey who him and Quayle seem to get very good mail these days on who clubs are taking.

Also seems we are locking in Sam Weiderman with one of those 4/5 picks. Also seems we are looking at Francis and Curnow as the other options. I hope we also look at Milera and obviously if we are going key poaition tall with one of those picks we look at a midfielder type in Francis or Milera with the other pick.

I think we would've taken Parish at 4/5 but now hes Melbournes

Would be really disappointed with Weideman.
We rarely have the luxury of two top five draft picks. Best available should be the priority.
Francis should be the non-negotiable.
Curnow or Milera for 5

Heard Francis say while he's flexible, his best/preferred position is as that 3rd defender type.

If we draft him, where do people envision us playing him? Both early days, and developing into.

Get Grimley in our Forward Line quickly.
Aggressive and big.
I like Smack but Grimley gives another option.
Then Daniher can develop without as much attention.
Cheap but effective and may develop into a massive win.

I'd be excited if we draft Weideman, the club will take best player they think is available, so if thats a straight kicking key sized forward with sticky hands then all the better.

I get worried with taking key talls that early in the draft aswell as they seem to come with greater risk especially guys that need some real development than ready to go types like Patton, Hogan types im less concerned about. The McCartin, Watts types worry me a bit.

However its well known that most if not all of the key forwards come from 1st round picks or father sons.

He also must be a player being strongly talked in that top 4 field now by twomey and co. Twomey mentioned him as other options to Weitering and Schache and also for melbournes 3rd. It seems he would be next best available according to a few U18 watchers

Hed be played as a 3rd tall defender. 1) because its a hole for us in our side and 2) its his best most proven position

He'd probably start out as a third defender, and transition into the midfield over the next few years as his endurance improves.

Spot on here. A lot of people getting their knickers in a twist over who we should (or shouldn't) take.

Dodoro is in hot form. Let the man do what he is paid to do and enjoy the fact that we will be getting 2 of the best kids from around the country.

milera shouldn't be best available at 5.

I don't see how anyone could be dissapointed with weiderman if we took him at 5. Or are you talking best available as being able to make an impact next season, or 2017?

Key forwards rarely make an impact in their first season.. we just need someone to work together with joey. With 4/5, we'd be silly to ignore the obvious need for a KPF. It's quite possible we could pick up a few good mids at 24/25. No solid KPP options around that mark.
