So are we all just going to ignore the fact that the last time we lost to Sydney it was largely because we didn't have Hooker up the line giving us a bail out option late in the game?

Giving up a 19 point lead in 5 minutes isn't because one player wasnt there. More failures then that had to occur.

It wasn't the reason we lost but it certainly didn't help.

Realistically speaking, there is just so much obstacles to overcome for us to win. It'll be extremely difficult. Perhaps too difficult.

We're basically assuming that Fantasia and Hurley will pick up where they've left off and that's not likely, especially Fantasia.

It would be the biggest win since our premiership in 2000 if we get up on Saturday considering how much is stacked against us at the moment.

Like our team
Super quick

Look at all that run: McKenna, Colyer, Gleeson, Zerrett, Oraz, Tipa, McGrath, Parish, Begley,

So the forward line is a bit of a shambles, with Laverde and Hocking dropped, Raz in, Hooker still out.

With Hurley back in defence, Goddard is surplus there. If Goddard goes back to the midfield while McGrath is there, then someone is surplus (possibly Colyer). So either Goddard goes forward to cover Hooker and the midfield is the same as Round 23, or Begley plays taller to cover Stewart (while Stewart covers for Hooker) and Colyer goes forward.

So basically;
Option 1: Colyer midfield, Goddard forward, Begley plays small or
Option 2: Goddard midfield, Colyer forward, Begley plays taller?

Not sure if that might be asking too much of Begley either. Someone who has watched him at VFL level might have more insight with regard to that?

Begley Daniher Tippa
Goddard Stewart Fantasia
not too bad imo.

The trick will be for our forwards to be mobile. Leading up and down the ground trying get the smalls to get out the back. I think Walla and Fantasia can be a big wildcard.

If Joe and/or Stewart remain deep and try to play the Hooker role then they will have little influence.

Finals are generally low scoring which in my opinion may assist us. If we are close at three quater time then Sydney might get nervous because we can put goals on quickly and we have run games out pretty well.

It will just be a similar structure to how we started off the season. Where we have 2 talls: Daniher and Stewart (instead of Hooker) then a medium that's a marking target (so I guess Begley though being realistic he won't be pulling in lots of contested marks at AFL level yet) then Fantasia, Colyer and Tippa are the smalls. Its true we are lacking a bit of marking power but at least we have a lot of pace which could trouble the Swans.

It will be critical that Daniher and Stewart get on their bikes as much as possible because yes they will get double teamed - although if Daniher's taking his early marks they are giving up a bit of size so may be forced into giving up some free kicks. On the bright side I think if it hits the deck - Grundy and Melican won't enjoy having the likes of Fantasia and Tippa swarming around. Even Colyer could get dangerous just because he's likely to get a defender that he has a fair pace advantage against since they need to cover Tippa/Fantasia first.

The key is we absolutely need to lower our eyes and hit up leading targets going into the forward 50. High bombs are not going to go particularly well for us. We need to kick to our forwards advantage so it gets to ground as much as possible if we don't mark it outright.

Call me cynical, but if giants lose tonight then we're buggered. The dream of an all-Sydney GF will be in jeopardy and must be corrected.

Is that a vote for Goddard or Colyer? :p

Goddard can play back along with the other 6. Thats a pretty common occurrence to be honest.

It minimises room for their forward while also allowing us an option off halfback to help transition the ball.

A guy on talk back today was mentioning how Dons could get an advantage by dribbling the ball into the forward line end on end rather than kicking it into the air. Rugby league style.
