Bugger! If we don't have Marcus Adams for this one we will need one hell of a performance from Harris Andrews and Jack Payne. Not to mention we will need to win out of the middle all day long.

Our midfield wasn't working because we weren't winning contested footy or working hard enough so we brought in Matho and saw an improvement in contested footy while still being short of where we need to be.

Perhaps we should move the other way and get more run into the team.

Sharp for Matho?

I agree with the symptoms but not the prescribed cure.

If we're moving the other way we'd need to focus on how to get the ball back - plenty of examples of teams doing well off intercept marking, so Adams in, Gardiner out, Rich to a wing, Ah Chee in to a back pocket.

But then we win it back and where ever we kick it we're outnumbered

Dizzy won't be dropped.
It is what it is.
Dizzy had a poor year last year, I thought Lester, clearly, had a better year.

I wonder how fit Dizzy is but I assume Fages is hoping he can regain his from of two years ago? I doubt it will happen so I want Lester back in and keeping getting games into Payne.

Never thought I would be asking for Dizzy in the Twos

I remember at the GC game Dizzy looked in great form before doing his shoulder.

Was a shadow of himself when he came back pre finals.

He is a junkyard dog but also needs full fitness to be effective - can’t afford to be playing sore or short on speed.

There are players who get a game injured because of structure or pure talent ie Harris / Neale. Dizzy ain’t one of those and we need to realise that.

I am getting worried for Adams. Long concussion symptoms. The initial concussion was a delayed reaction. Histroy of prior concussions. I wonder if he will be right for any further games this season. I imagine if he feels well next week it will be 1-2 weeks of running/getting habitated again. Would be a huge risk playing him from a 5 week break post concussion in a do-or-die semi final if we make it that far. Would not want another Jack Paine/Dan McStay situation were we lose a tall early in the match and our structure gets all wrecked like in 2021.

I wonder if it is a concussion issue with Adams or something else like ribs

Yeah he got smacked in the ribs and hunched over immediately. Seems weird
There was another instance in the first half where he collided with a Carlton player, near the defensive 50. Don't recall the exact time. He got up holding his head. More likely this was the incident, and the ribs one later.

The one thing he may know a bit more about then us BF people is injuries
He still has Adams missing so that may be the case
I put the bolded in the team.
But in the NOTES it is Whiting

BRISBANE

B:
Darcy Gardiner, Harris Andrews, Brandon Starcevich
HB: Daniel Rich, Jack Payne, Keidean Coleman
C: Callum Ah Chee, Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry
HF: Lincoln McCarthy, Dan McStay, Dayne Zorko
F: Charlie Cameron, Joe Daniher, Eric Hipwood
Foll: Oscar McInerney, Lachie Neale, Jarryd Lyons
I/C: James Madden, Zac Bailey, Rhys Mathieson, Deven Robertson

Emerg:
Tom Fullarton, Mitch Robinson, Jaxon Prior, Kai Lohmann

In: Callum Ah Chee, James Madden, Deven Robertson
Out:
Jaxon Prior, Cam Rayner, Noah Answerth

UNAVAILABLE: Marcus Adams (concussion), Cam Rayner (suspension), Noah Answerth (suspension)

NOTES: With Rayner and Answerth suspended, Brisbane has holes to fill at both ends of the ground. The Lions also have queries over Ah Chee and Adams, who were concussed in round 21 against Carlton and have not played since. Ah Chee is expected to play in the VFL on Saturday, and should he get through that, would regain his place in the 22, while Adams still has some protocol boxes to tick. Covering Answerth is tough against Richmond's speedy small forwards, but Madden would give them a chance, although Ah Chee could also play there, allowing Prior or Robinson to fill the wing role. Replacing Rayner is also tough, but Brisbane has plenty of scoring avenues, and perhaps Robertson's defensive attributes could be a nice complement, although Lohmann would be tempting. - Michael Whiting

In other words we could play anyone.

What actually happened to Adam’s ?. Missed it
He got really knocked around in the last game . Club says it's concussion but he did cop a heavy knock to the ribs and was holding his guts as he was taken off. Hasn't been sighted since.

Marcus has had a horrific run with injuries his whole career . It's a shame because he's a bull and a very strong mark in defence when fit. I'm hoping he can come back next year with a clean slate fitness wise. Unlikely to see him against the Tigers at least.

We've got a dilemma selection wise and every possible option has been thrown up . I just hope Ah Chee is good to go . Guys like Madden and Sharp have been suggested. I don't think either is up to it yet . Looking more likely Lester will get a gig somewhere. And Robbo. Hmmmm.

I was confident we'd roll them, hopefully next week brings better news.

There was a seperate incident where he went to spoil the ball and his head and a Carlton players collided. He got up and kept playing but I assume that's where the concussion has come from, not what you're referring to.

Not sure Lohman will get a gig...has been inconsistent in the 2s.. .3 weeks ago 5 touches then a good game then last week only 8 touches. Big ask against ruthless Tiges.

It has to be Deven for Rayner. 30 disposals and 3 goals last game. He can tackle and play a midfield role. We could put him as a purely defensive midfield to target Short. We could move him to the midfield for some centre bounces as well. Lohman would have to be rotated off the bench as I doubt he could play any other roles. He is not as physically mature. Barely got a touch in his last few games. Let Lohman try and win it for us in the VFL, get a good pre-season in next year and build off that. Exposing him to a pressure cooker final is a good way to rob him of confidence if a Vlaustin or Short decides to run off him and cause some damage for us.

Should put Prior on the field and Dizzy as sub if Fagan is desperate to have him playing.

I agree with your statement about Lohman. A good pre season for him is essential to build him up and good results may follow. Not ready just yet.

Brisbane Lions great Jason Akermanis believes the side’s coaching staff is “just not creative enough”, putting the heat on them along with players he declared “passengers” in big games.

...

The 2001 Brownlow medallist said the onus was on the coaching staff to mix things up should the side begin to falter against Richmond next week.

“The thing about Brisbane is, despite the talent, the biggest issue they’ve got is probably their coaching group,” he said.

“They’re just not creative enough when it’s going bad to throw a few magnets around and get players to play different roles.

“In the end, if they stick with the team they went in with two weeks ago I’d be quite surprised. There are some players with big question marks so we’ll see what happens at the selection table.”
