Roast Essendon in no mans land

Agree going well and there seems to be a bit more sturdiness to Essendon this year.

Having said that, the June is a only few weeks away, and Essendons recent record over the winter months is appaling.

we have beaten;

  • Hawks
  • Adelaide
  • Bulldogs
  • West Coast
  • Tied with C'wood
  • St Kilda

ALL of them are bottom 8.

our % is a good reflection of where we are at in reality, a stark difference to anyone else around us.

We seem to be able to dominate games but no ability to put it on the scoreboard.

Fair enough.

However, until Essendon snaps that infamous finals wins streak people are entitled to keep asking whether the current list is the real deal.
We ask ourselves that constantly, most Essendon fans are realistic about our club, we've finally been humbled enough now to realize how hard it is to go from a mediocre club to a club you can trust to perform week in week out.

What is recent?

Over the past decade we’ve won 54, lost 73 drawn 2 in June/July/August, 58% of all wins we’ve had. And that includes 2016 when we barely won any games, winter or otherwise.

Over the past five years, it’s W29, L29 and D1, 61% of all wins.

2014 7 wins 4 losses 1 draw
2015 1 win 11 losses
2016 2 wins 10 losses
2017 7 wins 5 losses
2018 8 wins 4 losses
2019 8 wins 4 losses
2020 5 wins 6 losses 1 draw (17 game season)
2021 6 wins 6 losses
2022 5 wins 6 losses
2023 5 wins 7 losses

Not great, but hardly “appalling”.

Sitting 5th by beating no one in the 8 and barely getting over the line in most games against those lower ranked teams. We've seen this movie before, I don't mind a re-watch.
Would be nowhere without our magnificent new defender and magnificent new ruckman. N.melb, the gift that continually gives.

WC were never as bad as North they were just riddled with injuries for 2 years. Hence WC's resurgence with a healthier list.

Pretty much this..there was a reason why we had a % comparable to Fitzroy over the last couple years...if anything it fast tracked our need to rebuild because even though we aren't a historically horrible team, we ain't a finals contender either. And with Reid now on the list there should be a laser focus to get crap done right.

This movie is clearly different as we're moved through the hard part of our draw (outside of round 16-18) were the only games we were odds to win were vs hawks and eagles.
played 2 top 8 teams and have been comprehensively beaten both times

How soft must your draw be if this was the hard part?

You tell me which set of 8 games are harder and look at it from the lens of the start of the season, a lot of people expected us to win zero games from round 2-7.... not our fault Saints, Dogs, Crows fell off.

First 8 - Hawks, Swans @SCG, St Kilda, Port @AO, Bulldogs, Crows @AO, Pies, Eagles @OS. (6 teams finished higher last season)

Second 8 - Giants at Marvel, North, Tigers, Suns at Metricon, Blues, Eagles at Marvel, Cats (2 teams finished higher last season)

Last 8 - Pies, Demons, Crows at Marvel, Saints, Dockers @MGC, Suns at Marvel, Swans at Marvel, Lions at Gabba(6 teams finished higher last season)

Last 8 games look the toughest, followed by middle 8 games and then the first 8 games the easiest on paper

Although the 1st 8 games & middle 8 games are similar in terms of difficulty

You're the one who brought up the Elimination Final, not me - but what a lovely reminder of that time North humiliated Essendon. I'd actually forgotten on account of it being 1 of 3 finals we played that year - but I understand why it'd be memorable for a Bombers fan; you have to appreciate them when you make them.
As long as we're taking a dive into the history books, do you reckon we were humiliated like giving up a 69 point point lead to your biggest rival in the space of a half of football humiliated?

Both losses were away but that doesn’t excuse the poor showing. Swans won’t lose many at home and we pushed them for a half but their class blew us away in the second half. Port was a debacle for us though.

Rival? Are Bombers fans still trying to create a rivalry? :$

lmao @ 6 of last years top ten being the easiest part of our draw.
Are we judging on previous years form or this years?

This years seems a lot like last year for the Bombers

i think north fans tend to care more about a rivalry nowadays, just another day on the fixture for essendon

Where do people see Jones and Hobbs?
Hobbs is good at being an inside mid but his kicking and speed leaves a bit to be desired. Jones is having a good year getting up the ground, I know he only has the 8 goals this year but he's playing well imo.

lol exaggerate much?

Port yeah, beaten soundly but i'd hardly call losing 101-131 against Swans on their home deck a comprehensive beating. We were right in it, but Sydney's quality outran and worked us in the end. We are still a very young team.

I dont disagree with your message, even with as much mayonnaise as you are applying. All the teams we have beaten have been bottom 8, and our % shows we can't put away bottom teams even with total domination of play which is a bit pf a worry, so will obviously struggle against contending teams.

We have things to be positive about though.
