AFL can change any contract you've got with the Dome anytime

Show me the rules that state that the AFL can break a legally binding agreement that they themselves signed off on (and this is to do with clubs - not the MCC).

AFL stated it at the time, jackson only backed down because some Essenscum coterie group didn't get supplied a room at the G

No it shouldn't, if it's our home game we can play it where the hell we want. Why would we care if no Dawks supporters can get in?

OH & I'm from Vic, something else you're wrong about.
Ive got a theory about this.

Essendon did this because they knew that if they played it at the "g" Hawthorn had more of a chance of winning.

Not only because it would have been more like a normal melbourne crowd not like an interstate one like it turned out to be, but because our record is woefull at the ******** box compared to at the MCG.

If we would have won that we would have won the flag

The fact is you starved 10 000's of going to this game.

What would Essendon get more out of.

90 000 at the "g" or 50 000 at the Dome.

What a grand old club Essendon are

The deal we have with the Dome, I wouldnt put it past getting more out of 50k. But I don't know the deal

As a selfish Essendon supporter, it was an awesome atmostphere. As Sheeds said at the time - why not make it like what Essendon and all clubs have to put up with interstate?

If I was a Hawk supporter - yes, I probably would have wanted to go - but thats the way the cookie crumbles! No point dwelling on something that happened 4yrs ago!

They sure are a club for the people

It seems you wouldn't have gone anyway, why aren't you at the game today? It's at the "G" you know.

wooh! it sure is great to come to this thread today knowing that we've won. after all that rivarly we came through.

essendon were still gallant however. they kept us on our toes till the last 3 minutes of the game but we were just better. but man, WOOO!!!!!

hopefully hawkk and the rest of the boys were right, and this is the start of a hawthorn dynsasty over essendon for the next 10 years :p

Yup well done to the Hawks, I will gladly eat my words from earlier in this thread - I would of thought Essendon had more talent on the ground in terms of matchwinners, but it counts for little when a team shows tremendous heart and character like the Hawks did today. The hatred and rivalry is still there, and let's hope it continues into the future... I have no doubt it will.

Again, congrats on the win and we will try to make it 11 out of 12 next year!

Listen child, it was OUR home game, Essendon look after the EFC members/supporters first and our sponsors, then we think about others.

Same do you thanks mate.

Your a great team steped in tradition.

It was an honour playing and winning against you on "heritage round" today.

I was a little disappointed in the crowd though.

With such a rivalry, between 2 proud clubs, with large and passionate fan bases, I would have expected more then 32 000 particully when we it is 12 000 down on the average between the 2 clubs over the last 15 years.

I guess thats what happens when 13th plays 16th.

Anyway good luck Bombers, I can sleep at night now, knowing we have broken the hoo doo. Here is to hoping that in 100 years we will be celebrating yet another fantastic match between the 2 rivals.

With Essendon you are always assured of a contest.

I have alot of admiration for there professionalism, in a crisis nothing is given to the media. We used to also share such a quality but it has really really diminished over the last few years.

I will quote Dermott Breaton "Essendon was the team I hated most, but at the same time, I respected them the most as well."

Ask any Hawthorn supporter and thats who they feel about you guys.

For Essendon you have 3 or 4 real traditional arch rivalries.
vs Carlton
vs Collingwood
vs us
vs West Coast

As for us we only have one vs you.

Saids alot about the Essendon Football Club doesnt it, while Hawthorn and success has been used in the same sentence for 45 years for Essendon its been a 108 year thing.

Good luck, I will be looking forward for the "Square up" next year, hopefully on a bigger stage
