Observations
Essendon: Had a comfortable win against Carlton, moving out to a 7 goal lead early in the 4th quarter and just holding them at arms length for the rest of the game. Jobe Watson was excellent, collecting 36 disposals and kicking a goal, with young gun Joe Daniher teasing with a 5 mark, 3 goal game against Jamison
Collingwood: Also recorded a comfortable win against St. Kilda after a slow start, getting out to a 5 goal lead at half time and going on to win by 74 points. Dane Swan starred for the Magpies, collecting the ball 39 times and a record 15 inside 50's with those. Travis Cloke was good again, taking 7 marks and kicking 5 goals.

Collingwood forward line vs Essendon defence
Sets up as an interesting battle, with Essendon's defence having been in exceptional form for the first 3 games of the season. Travis Cloke looms as an important figure for this match, having been beaten twice by Cale Hooker last season and approaching some form after a 5 goal haul against St. Kilda last game. He'll need support, otherwise it will be an exercise in futility against an in form Essendon defence. Jesse White will probably be taken by Dustin Fletcher, the evergreen defender will try to zone off and deliver the ball as much as he can, as well as helping out the other defenders. Hurley will have a slightly easier task than Franklin, Roughead and Henderson this week with 3rd gamer Corey Gault, and the last match-up of this third of the ground will be Jamie Elliott and Mark Baguley, Baguley having a good record over the Collingwood high flyer.
Midfield battle (rucks included)
An interesting battle, Collingwood have 2 very strong players in their starting midfield in their captain Scott Pendlebury and former Brownlow medalist Dane Swan, but it's surrounded by a wealth of inexperience, with Crisp, Broomhead, Oxley, Seedsman and Dwyer all having less than 40 games experience at the top level, although the latter has a wealth of senior football experience at VFL level. Jarryd Blair looms as an interesting one, he's never really transitioned into the midfield well, playing 105 games and never gotten past the 15-19 touches average over a season, and it'll be important for Collingwood for him to get those 23 or 24 touches a game. Essendon on the other hand look to be building into their prime, with Heppell, Zaharakis, Howlett and Melksham all building in and around the 100 game mark to go with 200 gamers Brendan Goddard and Brent Stanton, as well as captain and Brownlow medalist Jobe Watson leading the charge. The tagging battle of Melksham on most likely Swan will be very important for Collingwood, Swan will need another big game with the inexperienced midfield of Collingwood. The rucks will be interesting, Bellchambers having the experience but Grundy has the better form, if Bellchambers fires it's a big advantage to Essendon.
Collingwood defence vs Essendon forward line
Both sides have an inexperienced third at this end of the ground, although Essendon are having confidence in young Joe Daniher who's kicked 6 goals in the past 2 weeks, against quality defenders in Brian Lake and Michael Jamison. Jake Carlisle has been a bit down recently, and will want to bounce back against a potential match-up of Nathan Brown will make it interesting. Ben Reid may make his return against an incoming Shaun McKernan after an impressive pre-season from the former forward/ruck from Adelaide, who will want to impress on his potential first match for his new side. Paul Chapman will play an important role against cult hero of Collingwood, Alan Toovey, who has played as a very solid small defender for around 130 games for Collingwood.
X-Factor player
Travis Colyer has been very impressive for Essendon for the past 15 or so matches he's played, and in his 50th game he'll want to continue that run, especially after kicking 3 goals in the last 2 games. His run and carry has made him very dangerous for the men in red and black.
Keys for each side
Essendon:
Tip
Both teams have had comfortable wins this week, but the experience on the side of the bombers in the midfield makes me say Essendon by 22 points, Brent Stanton ANZAC Day medalist.

Keys for each side
Essendon:
- Clearances. When Essendon moves Bellchambers out of the ruck Essendon's clearance work has been less than successful.
- Kicking skills. There are a lot of poor kicks in Collingwood's side so they need to make sure the quality kicks get the ball in their hand.
Tip
Both teams have had comfortable wins this week, but the experience on the side of the bombers in the midfield makes me say Essendon by 22 points, Brent Stanton ANZAC Day medalist.
