We have had Geelong above Dawks thread. I thought i might pit the two biggest clubs in the land against each other.

I believe the dons will improve enough to finish above the pies.

Anything is possible i suppose. After winning 9 of the last 11 games against them we do own their feral arses. . Doesnt mean we will finish above them though.

better backline as good forward line and with ramanauskas, alvey and winderlich in the middle will have too much zip

pies are a good workmanlike side that lack class severly across the middle and down back.

for them to finish top 4 didak must play midfield.

essendon will be the dark horse next year.

i cannot understand people tipping them to slip.

they have a plethora of young talent and players in their prime: lucas, lloyd, solomon, johnsonx2, fletcher, ramanuaskas.

We've done alright for a team that lacks class 'severly'...

Buckley, Burns & Woewodin. Hmmm... That middle really does lack class, doesn't it.

And our backline has been one of the most effective in the last couple of seasons.

Woewoedin is warm butter.

Burns and Buckley are pure class, fantastic players. I think Collingwood has found the excellent balance of Class, skill and blue collar workers in their midfield, and is one of the best going around at the moment. I strongly believe that with a year or even under of development, the Essendon midfield can easily go pound for pound with the pie midfield. Watch out!

Given that Pies improved this year on the ladder and finished second I'd have to say that we will continue on the up.

Bummers are on the slide down. Didn't improve this year and just scraped into bottom half of the Top 8 at end of the season. Very up and down and not very consistent. Pies on other hand only lost 2 games from the break.

You gotta improve each year from the previous year. Pies improved this year with 15 wins in H&A season to 13 wins in 2002. Don't know Essendon stats but to finish bottom half of top 8 two years running and to slide down a few notches this year ain't good. Expect it to continue.

Essendon backline is better but not by much.
Collingwood's midfield by a country mile.
Collingwood's forward line also easily better.
Collingwood has more depth.

id take lloyd hird and cupido over rocca tarrant and didak any day.

rocca and tarrant both have too many quiet games.

cupido and didak are about the same

I'd suggest Essendon definitely have a better named defence, but we're very, very capable. Our forward line will improve this season with the injection of some strong marking young talls (yet to prove themselves at AFL level, I know, but they will play senior games and have impact).

As for the midfield, in today's scrum like footy, the zippier fellas can often struggle against the stronger ball winning midfielders, which is where we have the advantage.

You could say the very same thing of half of Essendon's senior list - I would name some of them, but as hardly any of them actually have a profile I can't recall their names.

Allan suffered lack of motivation (who wouldn't at carlton)

If he can get fit its worth the risk.

Stronger ball winers? Sheeds has structured the side so we have alot of tall running players, Collingwood have good clearance players and tactics though

they **** on Essendon in terms of clearances.

And as if Essendon won't improve. Last year mcphee and Cupido no good hacks

Heneman and Murphy are bloody close (attitude problems)

apart from that some good young talent.

And yes Collingwood also have some good young talent

But our untried talent is no different to yours, they're both untried and could go either way

Oi, Newsflash, Im a carlton supporter that put up with that heartless moron for the last few years, do you really believe that a guy who could not beat Barnaby French for the ruck position in the worst performed team over the last 44 rounds is going to somehow become an all-australian again in an essendon jumper.

If you truly beleive this I cant wait to see Murphy accept his Brownlow this year
