his been mentioned in relation to a few teams...

If they were looking at an Australian ATM I think it would be Scotty McDonald and if we can get him cheap Bresc..

With the soon to be confirmed sale of AJ apparently we have upped the bid to 17mil for Moutinho, not giving up easy.. As much as I want to sign him I would like to see 4 or 5 new faces to bolster the squad not just one expensive one...

I have my doubts about whether McDonald would make it in the Premier League.

I agree, if i was to play upfront for Celtic in the SPL i reckon i could score occasionally. They dominate in that league he has it easy there.

Another loss in pre-season 0-2 to Chicago with James vaughan being sent off... no more talk of top 5, i'll be happy not to get relegated at this stage!

Good to see Moyes acknowledge the situation as well.

Everton in bad shape, admits Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes has given a sorry appraisal of the club's progress following their 2-0 friendly defeat by Chicago Fire.

Moyes, who could be without James Vaughan for the season's start after he was sent off for a reckless late challenge, bemoaned the fact the club is struggling to sign the players they need to challenge for European places again this season.

Moyes, who is still chasing Sporting Lisbon's Joao Moutinho, said: 'We are in a poor, poor situation regarding going forward. We can't hide the fact that we need new players. Everybody knows it. I know it, the players know it. We have to get five or six players in before the season starts. There's not enough competition for the players to realise that if they play poorly they won't be selected.'

Everton must wait to see if the Vaughan incident is reported to the FA. If it is he is almost certain to be suspended.

Its looking worse and worse like cause of Wyness the money is flowing backwards out the club. Johnson is delayed forever and ever... 15 days out from the start of the season and apart from Man U we are theonly side not to sign anyone to improve.. and Man U have the luxury of already being the best.

Some of the discussion is that Johnson failed his medical at Fulham and they are trying to negotiate a lower price. Who knows how much truth there is to this......

Either way our squad is in a very poor state.

Typical "woe is me" words from Moyes, shortly before he forks out another several million on new players.

I don't know anyone that has spent so much that likes to give the impression he has been working under poverty like conditions.

Problem is he'll buy some superstar championship player who can only score 10 goals a year.. aka Beattie and Johnson.

Old injury that he had at Crystal Palace. Fulham have a history of this. Making big offers, getting guys over for a medical then dodgying it to try and make us accept the offer for less.

Why would Baines be shopped around. Thats stupid from The Sun I think because he never had a chance due to injury.

The Toffees purchased Baines from Wigan Athletic last summer for £6million but The Sun claims they are eager to offload the 23-year-old before the close of the transfer window.

After bursting onto the scene in 2005 during the Latics' first Premier League season, the Kirby-born defender attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United before eventually moving to Goodison Park.

But the former England under-21 star failed to make any great impact last term, as he battled injury and tallied just 13 Premier League starts while Joleon Lescott cemented himself on the left side of defence.

It is believed Everton boss David Moyes has effectively given up on Baines and is attempting to push through a player-exchange deal involving Blackurn left-back Stephen Warnock.

Rovers are unwilling to make the trade, however, meaning Moyes must either throw some cash into the bargain or start looking elsewhere.

Getting rid of Baines makes no sense at all. Before Darren Moore crunched him from behind, he had been MOM on several occasions and was one of the teams best players. In hindsight it may have been better for him to have had the ankle surgery as soon as he hurt it, rather than delay it till the end of the season as it was obvious that it was limiting his performance.
As for Warnock, why would you want to swap somebody (who I think) is the best left back outside of the big four for him? If you were Blackburn, why would you not do it?

Reading all the rumours on bluekipper I could certainly understand why Moyes would consider jumping.. but I have faith that he'll stick around (at least till next season). If Moyes goes, you could just about kiss the premiership goodbye for Everton and we'll all be enjoying Coke next year.

I wouldn't place any sort of reliability on this, think it's more a case of seeing his comments yesterday and adding 2 and 2.

But there is a rumour on a city board that Moyes has walked.

There has been rumours floating around on Everton forums since the Chicago friendly that he is set to walk as well, but I would be very surprised if he stuck around all preseason and then walked as the season was about to start. The bookies and punters seem to think that the rumours have merit, as Moyes is now the favourite to be the first managerial casualty of the new season.

Well Kenwright has made an official statement. Unfortunately I think most supporters will take it with a grain of salt.

Whilst I can fully understand the sense of frustration being felt by our supporters in the wake of what some perceive to be a moratorium with regard to the signing of new players, I feel it is important to make a few points.

Our attempts to complete the signings of players we believe will improve the quality of our first-team squad continues on an hourly basis. We have had a budget for incoming transfers since the start of the summer – and that budget is in no way reliant or dependent upon either the proposed relocation of the Club to Kirkby or the sale of current players.

Indeed, any proceeds from outgoing transfers will – you can rest assured – be added to the existing budget to strengthen our manager’s hand as he seeks to enter the transfer market.

David and myself have been trying throughout the close season to sign those players whom he believes will help to improve the squad which achieved so much during the last campaign.

Like everyone connected with Everton Football Club I am desperately keen to see the arrival at Goodison Park of those players our manager would like to see in a blue shirt come next season.

I appreciate that waiting can be hard and that patience is invariably in short supply but we do expect to make signings before the opening of the new Premier League season.

Bill Kenwright

Still plenty of discussion that Moyes may walk, but he has come out and said not the case. Still worrying times.

Interesting article in the Guardian.

Everton sale if stadium gets go ahead

Blues in crisis as tycoons clash over club's future

Everton, the Premier League football club, could be put up for sale if the government approves its new 50,000-capacity stadium in Kirkby. A decision is expected within days.

It is understood that tycoons from India, Russia and America will swoop for the club if the green light is given to the £400m stadium project on the outskirts of Liverpool.

It is thought an offer would not be rejected out of hand by Everton's high-profile board, which includes theatre impresario Bill Kenwright and Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl.

The two are thought to have disagreements over the future of the club. This is denied by Earl, who is currently holidaying with billionaire tycoon, Philip Green, on his £32m yacht.

It is understood that Green also has financial interests in Everton. Green helped Kenwright to buy the club four years ago. He is a lifelong friend of Earl, who owns 24 per cent of the club. It was claimed last week that highly regarded Everton manager David Moyes had to consult Green if he wanted a new player. However, Green denied he was financially linked to the club and downplayed his involvement. He said he gave advice to Kenwright when requested and that he regularly acted for Earl in club matters, as he lives in America and cannot always attend meetings.

Moyes is known to be unhappy at the lack of progress in signing new players. Kenwright was forced to put out a statement last Friday to dispel growing anger among fans.

A bitter war of words has now broken out between the tycoons running the club and their former chief executive, Keith Wyness, who resigned last Monday. Earl accused Wyness, a former marketing executive at British Airways, of looking for another job on company time. He said he had documents which confirmed this.

Wyness has spent part of the summer advising Paul Davidson, the controversial City figure otherwise known as 'The Plumber', who is in the midst of due diligence on the purchase of Real Mallorca, the top-flight Spanish club.

It is thought Wyness is being lined up to become chief executive of Mallorca if Davidson buys the club in a deal worth over €50m.

Wyness refused to comment on his departure but friends said he had done nothing wrong and was helping 'an old mate' while on annual leave. It has been suggested that his departure was linked to Green's influence at Everton.

Wyness's departure prompted Green and Earl to sail from Sardinia to Mallorca for a confrontation with their former chief executive.

Wyness is expected now to join Davidson at Mallorca if he becomes the first overseas owner of a Spanish football club. The due diligence process is expected to run for another four weeks. Davidson, who was convicted of market abuse by the Financial Services Authority and then had the decision overturned on appeal, will sell some of the club's property assets to fund new players.

Davidson beat off former Newcastle United chairman, Freddy Shepherd and an unnamed wealthy Russian.

bring in the russian billionaire, indian tycoons or middle east oil moguls .. don't care if they only see the club as a play thing, they will buy cause they wanna win trophies and that is fine by me...

Moyes has proven to be a brilliant manager and to be competitive with the big four, you need to spend money which is something we don't have and teams like Tottenham are starting to do. I don't want to see Moyes walk away from the club due to lack of funds only to go to another team and get them some silverware before us, we have a great core group of players, we just need a few more great supporting players instead of the average ones we have at the moment.

I coach a little league team (we're bottom in div 12) and we played a trial match against an SPL combined XI (best of).

We left to chase the ice-cream van at half time and still ended up winning by double figures. (apparently)

obviously such a high level of competition. scott mcdonald is worth more than sex on a lifeboat.

Abramovich is a rare type when it comes to owners of football teams.

Most are still businessmen. In it for the $$$.

I'm getting sick of talk and no action. Kenwright is such a dodgy bastard. Last year we got linked to top players like Lucho Gonzalez etc... we "bid" its too low, the player wants to come, we dont bid again and we end up getting bit part players like Pienaar and Jagielka rather than quality signings. Its the exact same this year... Poor moutinho probably feels like a git now.
