OK. Not the best start. IN fact the first half was complete shite. Still thought we would be good enough for the point. Arteta is pure class and the Yak worked hard, we were just let down by ouor backs, most noticiably Joleon Lescott who, unfortunately, had a shocker.

Rodwell showed a bit and Leighton Baines was dangerous. If we can make even ONE GODDAMN SIGNING and then get Timmy, AJ and Van Der Meyde back, we might go alright this year. In saying that that should be our last loss for the year at Goodison if we want to challenge top 4.

Everton MOTM: Mikel Arteta
Worst Game: Joleon Lescott
Summary: Played terrible for most of it, almost pinched a point.

Look at the bench last night!!!!!!!!! FFS Kenwright sell the club and F off.

32 Dan Gosling
38 James Wallace
27 Lucas Jutkiewicz
37 Jose Baxter
12 Iain Turner
36 John Kissock
35 Kieran Agard

That performance was pretty dissapointing, but I can't say I was surprised given the way the summer has gone. Congatulations should go to Jose Baxter who would now have to be the youngest player ever in 130 years of the Everton Football Club and I thought he looked pretty decent as well. Hopefully he breaks Vaughan's record for the youngest scorer in premier league history and follows it up by signing professional forms with the club as well.

Italian Press reports suggest that Everton have reached an agreement with Juventus for unsettled midfield flop Tiago Mendes.

The Portuguese international had high hopes when he joined the Old Lady from Lyon this time last year, but his first season in Turin was a nightmare.

After a series of unconvincing performances, the ex-Chelsea man dropped down the pecking order and was banished to the bench.

With the arrival of Momo Sissoko in January and Christian Poulsen this summer, Tiago looks still less likely to command a starting spot and has allegedly vacated his house in Italy.

After unsuccessful negotiations with Tottenham and Newcastle, Juve seem to have reached an agreement with Everton for a loan deal with the option to make the switch permanent in the summer of 2009.

Everton would pay around £800,000 for the loan and would pay Tiago’s wages of £1.8m for 12 months.

The fee for a permanent transfer is yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be in the region of £8m.

Also reported on a couple of other sites. Hopefully something on the official site soon. Also hopefully the start of a further 5 to 6 signings.

Arteta's goal was great but the defending by both teams for all the goals scored was atrocious. Comical stuff, really.

Tiago wasn't too bad at Chelsea but Jose was coaching Chelsea so there was that Portuguese connection. Under a different manager, his game may need to be more different.

The Wagner Love deal is dead. Apparently Moyes was just being played by agents for some reason. (?!?) http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...-vagner-love-deal-falls-flat-115875-20696945/

It really was too good to be true.

We also have sent a delegation to have one last go at signing Moutinho, and it looks like we've upped or bid now as well.

M'Bia has also said he wants to come to Everton! Don't know much about the guy at all, so can't make any comment as to how good he is, but if he's good enough for Moyes then thats enough for me.

Hardly reputable sources, but you never know! :)

You would have seen alot of Tiago at Juventus, just wondering what your opinion of him is?

He could have done well at Juve but Ranieri didn't seem willing to start him a lot so he had many mediocre performances. I didn't watch him during his Benfica days but out of all the teams he has played for in the last few years, his Juve days have been his most disappointing.

Originally, Tiago was meant to play in the hole in a 4-3-1-2 but Ranieri used the 4-4-2 more than anything else. Even in a 4-3-1-2, Ranieri would use ADP in the hole and have Trez and Iaquinta start. When Ranieri used the 4-4-2, Cristiano Zanetti and Sergio Almiron would play in the CM spots. Usually Almiron and Tiago would alternate with him until Sissoko came. Momo ended up starting most matches and played well.

I still think Tiago can play well but not at Juve. It seems that he doesn't fit in with the way Ranieri sets up his team because Zanetti and Sissoko are essentially DMs and Tiago is more offensive minded than them two.

Yeah, people tend to forget just how good he was at Benfica. I also think he would proberbly prefer to play in Spain rather than England, but I can see him coming to Everton just to get away from Juve.

Arteta's goal was good but really a keeper should never be beaten at the near post from there. Absolutely shocking positioning from Robinson on that one.

Arteta's cross for the second goal was fantastic though, if he can stay fit Everton might be able to hold onto 5th with a couple of big signings.

He has played in two of the Big Three leagues. Maybe Spain would be the place to deliver in a strong league.

Exactly. The ball was well struck but it's stunning that a pro keeper would position himself like that. If Friedel was still at Blackburn, he wouldn't have made that mistake.

If Friedel was still at Blackburn, Mikel wouldn't have even tried that. He saw Robinson, realised he was crap, and a had a pop!

Being linked now with a loan move for Nikola Zigic, which would be a good deal to get a player of his standard on loan. It also eliminates the need for a creative midfielder when you consider the amount of hoofing that a partnership of Yakubu and Zigic would generate;).

Valencia have confirmed they are ready to allow the giant forward leave on loan as he does not figure in their long-term plans

However, they could face competition from Everton, who are believed to have expressed an interest in Zigic.
