With less than 24 hours to go I am going to pose the question are we serious with any of our bids for players?

Moyes was in Belgium last night to see UEFA Cup opponents Standard Liege draw at Roeselare, and is interested in several Liege players including midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

He also plans one last attempt to persuade Sporting Lisbon to sell Portugal international Joao Moutinho by raising his offer to £14m.

Sporting rejected an initial bid of £12m and wanted about £18m.

No one at Everton could possibly believe this will be enough to sign Moutinho. Sporting have been up front from the beginning and Everton have not offered anything resembling fair. We are a lot more skint than Kenwright is letting on and he will cop in the neck at the EGM.

Although looks like signing Alan Smith is back on.

No FC.. even worse.. Henrik the 36 year old striker who runs as fast as Yakubu walks.

Henrik would be a good signing. I hope we nab him off your lot. The experience and class he has cant be subsitututed. Would be great for our young strikers

I'd rather have James Vaughan start every game for us. May be young, but he's all class.

Just like I'd rather have 16 year old Jose Baxter start every game rather than bring in Alan Smith. Everton have gone from "wow... could they break the top 4?" to "what an embarrassment even thinking about buying Alan Smith".

Henrik Larrson is a signing that I would have expected Walter Smith to make, not David Moyes. I would much rather the game time was put into the likes of Vaughan, Anichebe and Baxter rather than a player who will be gone in two years time. Everton have done this in the past with players like Gascoigne, Ginola and Mark hughes and how did it benefit the club? Those players would have been on very high wages and at the same time stopped youngsters like Franny Jeffers from getting game time. I don't want to see mistakes like that made again.

So would I but id rather a 36 yr old Henrik Larsson to come off the bench then a 16 year old anyone. IMO coming off from the bench and making a impact straight away is alot tougher then people realise. Its much easier for guys like Larsson with tons of experience to come in and gel straight away then a 16 year old

Thats why he wont join Everton. We atm are in the process of having to loan our young strikers out to CCC clubs cos they are too small and inexperienced for the Prem league. Getting Larsson in for 1 year while Sears and Hines are out getting mins in the CCC is what we need.

Anichebe and Vaughan specialise at impact play but struggle with starting because they get stuck behind useless hacks that get bought. They would be better off without Larsson and Smith.

One right out of left field. I assume it is rubbish.

Rumours are saying that the Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos is expected to sign for Everton today as an understudy to Tim Howard, and he is very well qualified.

He has played for Melbourne for just three seasons after coming in as understudy to Merrick, but quickly established himself as first choice for the Victory.

After keeping 10 clean sheets in 21 games, he was voted in to the Leagues Best XI in the Australian A-League in 2007, an outstanding compliment considering the exceptionally high calibre of goal keepers in Australia.

The 27 year-old was an ever-present last season and comes with a high recommendation and a very reasonable price. He would even expect to rival Tim Howard as Number One for Everton.

The dude from Liege is quality.

Price is a bit steep, but he's very good.

Apparently we payed 2mill pounds just to his bloody agent.

Can't wait for the weekend - he should start ahead of Rodwell and Jagielka, as should Castillo.

I must admit that I never thought I would see the day where Everton splashed out £15million on one player. Nice timing from the chairman too, with the upcoming EGM he will be able to gloat again about the fact that the transfer record has been broken. At least he will be made to look like a fool with the Manchester City takeover given his past comments about investors not being interested in Everton due to having bigger/more successful neighbours. If that's the case Bill, then why have City twice found themselves rich owners?

Exactly, I was thinking the same when I saw that.. In the shadow of the biggest club in the world - they take over. Liverpool are big, but not as big as Man U and apparently no one wants to take over. I smell blockage from Bill Wankright.

The deal was done completely behind his agent's back. If you did pay someone, it would've been Standard's chairman.

And I also read that he can play in Europe but has asked not to play against Standard, to which Everton agreed. I'm not sure if that's true, but there is something with the European football rules that you can still play uefa cup after having played CL football or the other way round.

Best of luck with him :thumbsu:. It's a lot of money, but apparently he has improved his game a lot lately and his future looks very bright.

This sunday night (Aus time) v Stoke City.

New look team. Big chance for a big win to get the season rolling again.

Word is Hibbert and Piennar are close, and Tim Cahill has started full training again, and is well progressed.

Next month to make or break the season.

That is terrible news

It's good news if Pienaar is close to returning, although the Daily post has a quote from the head physio saying he and Hibbert are still "weeks away". Unfortunatly the injury list is quite lengthy:
-Apparently Osman's knock against Portsmouth hasn't responded to treatment as well as expected and he is a doubt for the Stoke game.
-Jack Rodwell hurt himself playing for England under 19's and is also in doubt
-Dan Gosling didn't play for the under 19's at all as he was injured.
-Saha isn't fit to play either.
-I don't think Moyes will play Castillo considering the travel he has done and the fact he will have played two full games with about 4 days rest on top of this.
-Tim Cahill is hopeful to be back by the end of the month.

Nothing's changed then. ;)

It'd be good if he played though, that would mean money for us.

Saha playing does mean money for you, just like Andy Johnson playing for Fulham gets more money for us:). The importance of getting rid of Saha was to get his wages of the books, so Man United have already benefited even if he doesn't play once for Everton. On a sadder note, Lars Jacobsen dislocated his shoulder playing for Denmark this morning, which is dissapointing as he was in line to make his debut this week.

According to The Sun, Anil Ambani (who was in talks with Newcastle about buying them) is no longer interested in them and has moved onto discussions with Bill Kenwright about buying Everton. Not really a good source, but I would have thought it would have been much easier for him to buy Newcastle than us, when you consider the ownership structure and Ashley looking like he's going to go and also it would be much easier for him to make money at Newcastle.
