Yeesh. Another 2 points thrown away because we can't work efficiently enough to sign some attacking threats. Really poor start to the season. Thoughts...

Iwobi was BOG yet again. He's really come on under Lampard and plays like a man possessed.

Davies was okay with the ball, but missed what were basically two sitters. Very costly. Should get rid.

Gordon has zero end product. I find it hard to believe that we (apparently) turned down a 45m bid for him. Let's hope Chelsea are still keen.

Gray was sporadically good, nice finish for the goal, but ideally would be coming off the bench as a sub.

Onana was very poor when he came on, looked all at see. Obviously needs to adapt to the pace of English football, 90 minutes in the cup on Tuesday will do him the world of good.

Pickford had to do better for the goal, though Patterson also could have been more aware. Mykolenko continues to be solid defensively but think he's better suited to LB than LWB, to be honest.

Tarkowski had a mare, though the conditions were blustery. Coady was very good and Holgate continued his good start to the season.

Rondon actually did okay, and we looked better with an actual striker on the pitch. He shouldn't have been subbed off - mistake from Frank.

McNeil was awful coming on, but had nothing to work with up front and doesn't seem sure of the role he's being asked to play. He'll be better once DCL is back (or, you know, had Rondon stayed on as a target).

Very frustrating start to the season.

We are doing okay defensively, with a couple of solid signings that have made our defense seem much more solid and less devoid of leadership

The midfield seem to be beginning to gel, our transition is better than I've seen for a while and there seems to be a bit more patience in build-up play, as well as a bit more confidence across the park.

However, with no one to target in the box and no-one to really pass to in the final 1/3, all that means jack shit, as there's no point being ultra defensive and/or creative, when you can't score.

Gonna be a long season of draws, 1-0's and scrappy games.

Thought we went alright until we went up 1-0 and then just sat back and allowed Brentford to pressure us into our defensive half.

As soon as Keane came on we just looked so much worse at the back as well.

I’m overseas for a few weeks so won’t be able to watch much (if at all in most places), but it might not be the worst though…

I think things will improve when we finally sign Gana (****ed if it all falls through though), get DCL back in a couple of weeks and hopefully sign a creative AM

A better performance again. We had a few chances to make it 2-0 which was promising.

Our defence held up pretty well under immense pressure but we did look weaker once Keane came on.

Before the game I would have taken a point, as the game wore on I was equally disappointed to not get all 3 and relieved to not come away completely empty handed

Overall each week we are looking slightly better, conceding fewer goals, creating better chances and generally looking more comfortable in both defence and attack. We need a bloody finisher and a target man though. We can’t just rely on speed and solid balls over the top to gray or Gordon.

If I take my blue coloured glasses off for a second I am slightly worried. I think we will be in a bit of a battle for relegation again, however I feel we will be safe with 5-10 games to go. January transfer window will be a boon for us

Rumours that Kudus from Ajax wants a move to us and is refusing to train to try to force a move.

If we sign Gana, Garner from Utd (agreed, apparently) and Kudus - our starting midfield could be Onana, Gana, Garner and someone from Ghana.

Magnificent.

All that hate we got at the end of last season from "neutrals" seems to have transferred over to this season too. God, I hope we stay up and cause some **** with other teams. It makes our shitness almost worth it.

Go on any fan forum or comment page after one of our games and there is so much delicious hate "Everton had no right to get a point" blah blah blah "Coady seems to have kept all his time wasting tactics from Wolves" "Burnley have well and truly passed the batton on to Everton for negative football". It's great

Is this how Millwall fans feel?

Was browsing the Everton subreddit and was reminded of this beauty

Still by far the best Everton side I've ever seen. 72 points and didn't make Top 4 is the most Everton thing in existence.

Take that, one of the better games we have played in 2022.

Defence is getting better, midfield slowly getting there but the attack is where we need to improve.

Created chances against Liverpool whereas last season we would've sat on our heels and got smacked by unrelenting attack on us.

Improvement and need to build on this and start winning.

Massive game from Onana today. Starting to find his feet.

We looked so much better under the 4-3-3, need Frank to really stick with this formation now that we have the midfielders available and a replacement striker for DCL in place.

Looking much more assured at the back this season, the goals will eventually come with midfield dominance through Onana/Gueye/Iwobi.

concur it’s nice to have hope.

Patterson, Onana, Garner, Mykolenko, Gordan are a quality young bunch. The quality of leaders we’ve brought in cheaply are the best since Barry. Enough talent now to attract a quality striker and this team might challenge the top 6 in few seasons.

Long term I think we will be fine. The signing/re-signing of Gana alone gives me hope, he was putting up boss stats and was still being criminally underrated. We will no longer be walked through in midfield as we have been the last 3 years.

Short term I’m still kind of worried as we are still winless at the end of the day, with our next 5 being Arsenal, West Ham, Southampton, Man Utd & Spurs. We just need a win to build belief

Jordan Pickford (Everton)

It was a cracking Merseyside derby at the weekend. There were three fabulous saves by Pickford from Roberto Firmino and yet it was the stop from Darwin Nunez that had me applauding.

Pickford looks in good form at the moment and he was outstanding against Liverpool but that's when I start to get very nervous about his performances. If he can retain this level of consistency then Everton and England will benefit enormously. Sadly, however, I can't help feeling there's always a mistake in Pickford especially when he's been playing well.

Typical English media... ridiculous, they're waiting for players to make mistakes. Obviously we do that with Maguire cause it's funny but Pickford it isnt as he's one of ours.

I noticed that too! No wonder there is such a shit football culture there towards the national team. They wouldn't say that about a foreign goalkeeper who is number #1 for their country, so why they lament and bemoan their own national team is probably why they've only got the one world cup to show for years of probably being the best league in the world - and by extension having some of the best players in the world.

Perennially underachieving because of ridiculous expectations that seem to swing like a pendulum between too hopeful and too lamenting

Apart from Kepa.

BBC is crap. Someone on GOT recently posted a screenshot of match updates, the one involving Everton had a shitload of downvotes and the one involving the neighbours had a shitload of upvotes. They pander to the masses.

Yeah but the up and down votes don't mean much. some of their updaters are too bias

Great win. Thought the lack of a striker was gonna do us in again. But good damn are we hard to break down.

Some absolute steely resolve in defence. Not seen that kind of grit from our backs for a while - maybe not since the Moyes days when we had some no nonsense maniacs like Jags, Yobo, Heitinga, Distin etc.

Lamps has assembled a squad he can work with and hopefully we keep building, keep defending well and concede fewer than our opponents until the next window, as I'm not sure we can rely from free-flowing attacking football to win us games

Onwards and upwards

Only one team has conceded fewer goals than us (Brighton, but with a game fewer than us). Of the team who have played 7 games, we are tied with City for the fewest goals conceded. That is a huge stat for a team who has historically leaked a lot of goals recently

Apparently Patterson picked up a bad injury on international duties. I swear we get ****ed on more with bad injury than any other team. Coleman, Gomes, Oviedo, Godfrey, McCarthy from the top of my head as players to either get breaks or knees.

Good result, unbeaten in 7 and up into 11th.

Obviously things to still tweak/work on but we're hardly the dumpster fire we were last season. I'd still like to sell DCL/Gordon and re-invest into more creativity up front but there is time for that to still happen.

4-3-3 system is so much better than 5 at the back, especially with Onana/Gueye/Iwobi bossing the midfield in the first half, think our possession was 55% at HT and obviously dropped when we got in front.
