Don't understand why people say Piastri is 'obligated' to drive for Alpine - as a talented reserve driver, you cannot blame him for looking for a seat for next year if Alpine themselves refused to commit to him.

Plenty of reserve drivers went on to drive with other teams in the history of F1 and it seems Alpine have been slow to commit to Piastri and Alonso and are now paying the price.

I imagine Piastri has a clause that he can leave if a full time seat becomes available elsewhere, and he has obviously secured one.

It looks like Alpine have tried to manipulate the situation through their press release to force him to stay. Possibly them giving him the seat triggers a clause in his contract?

Either way there’s no way he can stay there now, and at this stage I don’t think he’s done anything wrong.

If he has a seat elsewhere and has definitely signed, then there is no reason for his latest statement.
It in no way adds or detracts from his or his new teams situation .
Waste of time, didn't have to respond for any reason to Alpines statement.

Um, you do know Alpine announced Piastri for 2023 right? His tweet was in response to that - it was not out of the blue. Staying silent would imply that it is correct he would drive full time for Alpine next year.

So.
Why would he care if he has a contract elsewhere.
Not even worth the breath.
Let Alpine make the next statement.

That would be Alpines problem to sort out.

...maybe because he doesn't want the media to congratulate him and ask him about a drive for next year he does not want?

"BigFooty is pleased to announce SFOW has changed his club allegiance to Collingwood for 2023" - what would you do in response?

That would be the worlds biggest case of kicking the can down the road

Would be a genuine PR disaster for Oscar if it comes out in a month that he's driving for another team and would appear though he has shafted Alpine rather than responding now

Not to mention the massive hoo ha about him driving for Alpine next year
