I know that Oscar crashed in Q3, but for him to get through into Q3 in those conditions on a slick was absolutely ****ing amazing. This is the first mistake he’s actually made where he’s put the car in the wall. All the other rookies have done it, at least a few times already.

He’d never even driven this track before for in real life, and he gets into Q3. What a ****ing legend!

Set fastest first sector in Q2 only to run into a wall of other cars and went yellow, yellow for the last two sectors.

The most pleasing aspect of Oscars qualifying for me, is how close he is to Lando in Q2. Lando 3rd fastest, Oscar 4th 0.312 behind: see Q2 qualifying,
NOT the starting grid.

Yep.
That POS car killed Ricciardo’s career and might curtail Oscars at an early stage.
But hey, they have super dooper illuminated advertising signage….
And just you wait, just you wait…. The silver bullet wind tunnel will deliver championship after championship…..
To be fair, Ricciardo killed Ricciardo's career by choosing to leave RB, choosing to leave Renault (which was building its program around him), and then performing woefully at McLaren.

I think Zac needs to be moved on as CEO (or moved into a head marketing role and leave team operations for someone else), but Ricciardo's current predicament is purely of his own making.

Speaking of Danny Ric (don't disagree with what you have said here) I see that he is doing an alternate commentary feed with actor Will Arnett (Arrested Development) for tomorrows race.

I assume this is a Sky exclusive (like the red button follow a driver thing they crap on about every single session) that we won't have access to. They seem to be trying to replicate what the NFL do with the Manning Cast (a live podcast whilst watching the race).

That would be pretty cool tbh. Hopefully us Aus pundits can get it somehow

Went purple in the 1st sector in his next run too but came across a wall of traffic and ended up aborting I think.

Whenever the cars are somewhat neutralised ie rain, he just performs. What a bloody talent, having an immense rookie year basically going toe to toe with Norris. He will be held in such high regard after his performances against Norris.

Real shame he binned it in the 3rd could have been on for a good grid position, but it’s probably the first time he’s binned it from memory.

6-1 in Qualifying
5-2 in races
12 points to 5

Wouldn't say he's going toe to toe at all.

Sure he’s obviously being beaten, but he’s absolutely shaping up nicely to him as a rookie… kidding yourself if you don’t think he is
I think you are looking at it with a little too much Aussie bias.

Piastri has been fairly unremarkable in a dud car. He will be given a while because of his junior form, but he has been behind the pace of his teammate (understandably, Norris is more experienced) and right now isn't offering too much more in that second seat than Danny Ric was.

Lol, yeah you’re kidding yourself.

He’d be on the radar of every top team with a potential seat open in the next few yearsright now considering how close he is to Norris after what, 8 races? Considering how highly Norris is rated on the grid too

Your stats are nice but go back and look at how much he’s being beaten by Norris in those losses. He’s bloody close and he has no right to be this early in his career

Truth is in the middle imo. He's been better than Ricciardi at McLaren imo (not a high bar tbh), but he definitely hasn't shown anything to be more than a handy driver.

Hamilton in his first year went toe to toe with Alonso, Verstappen was immediately beating his teammates at 17 and won his first race in a RB. That's what top talents do, they immediately set their mark.

Getting handily beaten by Norris doesn't exactly scream future world champ material.

Unremarkable is tough assessment for a driver who was out of a car through 2022.
Max was in his 2nd season when he won his first GP & he's the pacesetter for F1 currently.
I reckon Oscar is making a great fist of F1 as of today.
