Martin brundle thinks they should get rid of blue flags. I can see an argument for it.
What are people's thoughts?

I've seen way too many leaders taken out by backmarkers with blue flags, getting rid of them is inviting chaos.

He's a race driver FFS, thats all they wanna do. Do you reckon Dan wouldve retired if he wasnt forced out, or Bottas ??

They forced Dan out..
They won't force perez out $$$

Perez won't get sacked and he's too selfish to retire.

If the talk that Checo's sponsors will jump to Colapinto then Red Bull could very well drop Checo and bring in Colapinto.

It would be a great move for Red Bull but a slap in the face for Tsunoda. They'd almost be better off giving Yuki a run in the top team for a couple of years and run Colapinto alongside Lawson at RB.

In my opinion, the best way to increase overtaking is to simply make the cars smaller.
Brundle said that in the AMA when conceding that currently there is a need for blue flags, and that the cars do need to be smaller and lighter

I really doubt checos sponsors would do that but in any case I suspect Williams would only release colapinto to a lower team (such as if he had gone to audi) but won't release him to red bull. So it's probably a moot point. And sadly I doubt they sack checo.

They forced Dan out becauses he's 30+ in the junior team and wasnt getting results.

He knew no one else wanted him either, nor did he want to go anywhere else.

Perez is 30+ and not getting results either. But he brings in more $ than Dan for them and that's why they are afraid to move him until he chooses to retire.

Which then would be a slap in the face to Hadjar.
Recruiting Colapinto would be a slap in the face to Hadjar. Nothing Red Bull does with Perez, Tsunoda or Lawson would affect Hadjar adversely.

I can absolutely see an argument, but Msrtin forgets that these cars are stupidly hard to see out of.

I reckon you need to start giving penalties earlier though
I believe they also get indicators on their steering wheels - not just the blue flags/lights on the side of the track.

Agree though that they need to start handing out penalties like chocolates at Halloween - the backmarkers would soon get the message. Mind you, what penalty can you hand out that is meaningful to a driver who's not going to be in the points anyway?

Yuki's not getting more than 12 months in the senior car, as Honda are switching to Aston Martin in 2026 - and Honda are the only reason he has a drive with the Red Bull team (RB & VCARB) at present. If they're going to promote a driver for 2025, they probably want someone who will still be around in 2026.

Most teams take the view that they're happy for reserve drivers to sign with other teams, provided they're being promoted to the main gig - Alpine/Piastri being a notable exception. As an example, McLaren had no issues with Sauber signing Bortoleto, who was their reserve driver.

Alpine were pissed because they were promoting Piastri into the main seat.
Alpine were only going to put him in a client team's seat, until Alonso pulled the plug on them unexpectedly. By that stage, Piastri had already signed with McLaren. Alonso's move caught them off-guard, and by the time they decided to promote Piastri to their own main seat he was already gone.

Szafnauer got caught between a rock and a hard place of his own making - stuffing Alonso around on his contract extension while being unable to lock Piastri down by guaranteeing him a seat. Ended up losing both.

He might if they don't lose the sponsorship money

Carlos Slim isn't silly, he might have more money than the vast majority of the planet but he's not stupid.

He's not in it to make a loss on his investment so this year would've made him think VERY hard. Gotta be careful throwing your money behind Colapinto mind you, he wouldn't be the first driver to be swallowed up driving a car that's totally suited to Max's difficult style.

I doubt they'd put Colapinto in the Red Bull. Seems more likely they'd promote one of the RB's and put Colapinto in that other seat.

It's pretty wild how little faith and/or ability they have in their own academy.

Ricciardo doesn't drive this season if they have anyone they they like, and Checo has lost his seat by now if they had anyone they liked.

Like it. Will keep the back end kf the race interesting. If someone gets out to a 15 second lead, half could be taken up by them hitting a back marker at a certain part of track, compared to second who could easily pass on straight. They're all world class drivers, so no safety issue seems obvious.
