Coach Fages and the coaching group

I mentioned similar in the review thread, it is a strange one though apart from Coleman and Rayner I am struggling to come up with a swag of players who are "unfit", I am sure the coaching staff will know with access to GPS data though. Repeat efforts and sustained pace need to be focused in on, Sidebottom and J.Daicos clearly out ran our wingers, no blame whatsoever on an 18 year old Jaspa though, he may have been overawed and sapped of energy from over thinking the game.
Rayner is overrated and the sooner we get him fit and play him in a role that he is capable of rather than swing him around the ground naively thinking he's capable of doing something the better off he and the team will be. It cost us dearly yesterday.

Coleman had leather poisoning but just wasn't getting the penetration from his entries that he got last week because we played more risk off footy for fear of making a mistake. It's not surprising that he got tired in the sun ,though he struggles to keep up the intensity good and all as he is.

Cal had the legacy of a corkie , it's also not surprising that Sidebottom and Daicos outran Bez and Jaspa who as yet aren't in the same class but they're the best we had.

General fitness is an area we can improve on I suppose. We get away with it at the Gabba but the MCG is a different proposition on a warm day. I think the majority of our guys ran it out , Oscar was gassed but understandably so ,needed more backup , and we could easily have pinched it. Not to be.

The wisdom of hindsight - Hinkley learnt the hard way about making a tactical sub change too early in the Qualifying Final.

I always think about that song "Monday's expert"

"Monday's Experts
Hey they've always got the good oil
Pity you can't put a bet on at the finish of the race"

The whole team need to do their endurance training with Harry Sharp over the off season.

If we start hearing reports of groups of players out training independent of the club before the end of this month that will be a good sign that they are using the heartbreak of yesterday as motivation for 2024.

I waa ok with substitution at that time. Seemed pretty consistent with what happened throughout the year.

They clogged up the midfield and spread hard so basically outworked our midfield group. Seems to be a big factor when you playing at the G. So this need to be one of the focus points of the coaches this preseason.

At the beginning of the year I said anything but a GF appearance would be a fail so well done to the team for getting us there.

Just announced on Trade Radio that Jed is moving on to the Roos, so that’ll be one spot to fill in the coaching group.

Arrived back at the club as coach when Fagan started and has been around during the rise up the ladder. Wish him the best of luck, hopefully more luck than the previous Brisbane person that took a coaching role at North.

A new voice in the coaching staff may help us take the next step in 2024.

Wonder if the club will ask the question to Mcqualter about joining our club, as an assistant and then senior coach in-waiting, once Fages does retire from the job in the future.

Leaves a vacancy Gunston could fill?
Wonder if Murray Davis might leave as well, then we could possibly allow Gunston to become our forward’s coach and McQualter comes in as our defence coach in 2024, would be a nice refresh of bringing new assistants to the club.

Symmetry - Clarkson taught fagan, fagan taught adcock, now adcock going to Clarkson.

We will definitely see Jed as a senior coach one day. Maybe doing another apprenticeship with the goal of coming back after fagan retires.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Ben Hudson moved on as well.
I do think we need to bring in a genuine Ruck Coach

He could retire and we could smooth his 2nd year contract into a multiple year assistant deal.
That would make quite a few on here very happy.

(Would that have to be underhanded ..... I'm expecting not if he "retires" )

Had me thinking earlier today when the McQualter move out of Richmond was announced but not to a specific Club and then all of a sudden Jed's departure has been announced...could just be co-incidence but clubs like to line up their PR ducks on things like this.
