I agree, and what will get him well is a return home. Bookmark it.
None of us know what is best for Faz. He and his carers will work that out.

I understand that and wish the best for Fas. My OPINION is that he will seek a trade at the end of the year and we will facilitate it. Hopefully we get more than a late third round.

Bigger things than footy. Get well. Return if he wants to but if he doesn't that's ok.

I suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks. It's not nice.

TG that's a tough thing to have to carry. Hope all is going well for you currently and I am sure the board wishes you all the best. It's a funny footy cyberspace world where we all get glimpses of each other. We all have the Collingwood passion no matter how we express it. Look after yourself. I know the devestation these things can cause all to well. Cheers.

As somebody already mentioned, this is one of the few times I actually hope that interested players would scroll through BigFooty. Really decent response from Collingwood fans and opposition supporters alike.

Having gone through similar issues myself, it is my personal experience that any little bit of kindness or encouragement, even from complete strangers can help make a difference.

It gave me an idea, that we could put together some kind of group digital message. For instance, anybody who wants to take part could post a message in this thread with the prefix "To Faz" or whatever it might be as an identifier. Then after a few days the messages collated with a simple copy/paste, and sent onto the club from the Pies BigFooty board (opposition supporters obviously welcome to sign). I'm sure someone on here would have an idea for a line of communication to the club?

Anyways, possibly a cheesy idea, but getting a few hundred messages of support through could also make a difference, you never know. Just throwing it out there to gauge interest. I don't have the technical know-how to do all the aforementioned, but I'm sure (if there's interest), with our powers combined it wouldn't be too difficult.

Side by side.

Don't think it's got anything to do with playing for another club. He might give it away altogether. Depression is a beast.

I guess we will see. We all hope he gets well but the cynic in me sees a move back to WA, hope I'm wrong.

Cheers GC. It can strike anyone and some of the most up beat and smartest powerful minds. Doesn't discriminate. Hope he just gets his head in a place where he can live life again.

Depression is terrible, I have suffered with this for over 10 years now and it is still a constant battle everyday. I hope fasolo can get on top this and recover as soon as possible and if he ends up needing to be in Perth with his family that may be the best thing for him. The more support you have around you the better but it does not always help as sometimes nothing seems to help at all. So many suffer from this and it is different for every person. No matter what his health comes first and I hope he gets well as soon as possible

Collingwood's Fasolo takes break to deal with depression

Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo is suffering depression and will take a break from the game.

Fasolo is undergoing treatment for clinical depression with a medical specialist and will not play in Perth against Fremantle on Sunday.

Really awful news for a young footballer. Hope he's getting the space he needs and that posters here can be respectful of his illness.

Despite the downside for Fas, there are major positives to come from this announcement. So many of us (including myself) have suffered with depression and/or anxiety at some point in our lives and when it happens it can be very difficult to reach out for fear of the stigma that was once attached. People like Fas going public with their issues help shine a light on an insidious disease which plays no favourites. This helps others to know that it's OK to reach out. Depression is a disease that should be viewed the same as any other disease so that treatment can be applied.

Good on you Fas! Get well soon mate. We're thinking of you.

Thinking back now to some of the shots of him now from Sunday's game you can sort of see it on his face :( Feel awful for him, hope he gets better soon.

Yeah, when he was lining up for goal - and then kicked it. We often forget how much pressure is one these guys. But this is also a result of the pressure on the club because of the start t the season. If we were 7-3 there wouldn't have been so much pressure on Fas's goalkicking, and the kicks wouldn't have been so important either since we'd have been in front more.

Having travelled a long way down the black hole alone with the black dog on my shoulder, I am so glad he's put his hand up and asked for help. There is nothing more crippling then trying to cope with depression alone. I wish him all the best.
He is fortunate that he is in an environment that will make every effort to facilitate his recovery.
Good luck Faz.

It's an amazingly complex illness. On the surface, Fasolo is the most cocky, self-confident, full of life person you could ever imagine (and I mean that as a compliment). He'd be the last person you'd pick to be battling Depression.

I watched the Brisbane replay last night though and his body language was really peculiar. Clearly he was carrying some Demons, and that has been affecting his performance. So I'm glad the club and Fasolo has been honest and he is getting the time he needs.

Wish him well.

Deafening silence from those critics whose attacks probably contributed to his problems. Commentators so quick to use words like lazy when they have no idea what might really be going on need to take a long hard look at themselves. There are no lazy players in AFL teams, just as there are no gutless ones, though there are plenty of contributors here happy to throw the word soft around with gay abandon. Have a think about what you say about our players, and what the consequences might be if the person in question reads your views and takes them to heart.

From a football perspective Fasolo has never been able to thrive with Jamie Elliott back in the team. Bringing Elliott back into the team places a lot of pressure on Fasolo to perform. His kicking for goal this year may be a testament of this pressure and having to match Elliott's brilliance.
