You are aware that Nazis just need a group to hate, a focus point for their anger and vitriol.
Back then it was Jews - now it’s muslims and gltbiq folk.
Remember when Pauline Hanson was all about asians out? And now she has asians in her party saying muslims out?
It’s about harnessing the fears of the other…..works really well on folks with sub-optimal acuity who struggle with nuance.

Ashkenazi Jewish people aren’t on the top of the hit list for neo-Nazi white supremacists given their proximity to whiteness compared to other non-white groups.
If these neo-Nazis manage to expel all non-white people from Western countries, then we’ll see if Elon Musk is still walking around with a Jewish star around his neck. Worrying times with Trump regaining power. The drowning man will clutch at a serpent. But we need to look at why it was possible in a country like the States for him to be elected.
We’re seeing the rise of nationalism across Europe. So the phenomenon is widespread, it’s by no means isolated.
As for the word “fascist” it’s become so misapplied as to be almost meaningless. Mussolini was a socialist until he was kicked out of the party, thereafter he promoted a form of collectivism, which was far from free market ideology.
The Nazis were apparently fascists. But they were also socialists - national socialists. At least they began as that before Adolf morphed them into a genocidal, imperialist war machine hellbent on achieving “living room” for the German people.
These days the term “fascist” seems to be used to describe those who promote free markets and general conservatism, which is either a complete misunderstanding, or deliberate deception.
Trump is a staunch nationalist obviously, and he seems to have autocratic tendencies but he’s certainly not “fascist”.

What's interesting is nowhere have I said nazis are cool or the salute a great thing. All I have said is I don't think it meant what others think it means. That's the reality of the conversation. Where it takes a turn (which is on a few here and some seemed to want to get a little personal) is that by me saying I don't think it was what it was, everyone straight away moves to an assumption that because of that opinion "oh, you're down with nazis". Not at all. But, carry on gentlemen.

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.
The Wikipedia definition is wrong. Fascism was born from socialism. It was not “far right”, it was a movement from the left side of the political spectrum as is evident from examining the origins of Mussolini and the Nazis. But it has been re-defined as “far right” in a form of revisionism.
As for other parts of that definition, Trump believes in wider personal freedoms, he does not support the subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race. He doesn’t believe in the strong regimentation of society and the economy, he believes in less regulation and low taxes.
The closest Trump has come to “forcible” suppression of opposition was the removal from office of those who don’t agree with his agenda (hardly forcible) and the refusal to accept the outcome of previous election which ignited the march on the White House. He seems reckless with, and perhaps contemptuous of some democratic institutions, but nothing he has done comes close to the actions of the fascists who just killed their opponents.

Fascism is socialism in ww2
Even though the fascists we’re on one side of that Spanish civil war and the socialists were on the other side, with Hitler and Mussolini supporting the fascist side and the ussr supporting the socialist side.
Even though Hitler put the socialists in concentration camps.
Even though Hitler throughout his main Kampf book constantly rails at the evils of socialism, communism and Bolshevism.

Who is standing alongside arguably the most powerful man in the world.
Who in turn just reimplemented Schedule F. Removing all safeguards from civil servants, which were the only thing that stopped him in his last term in office.
There is no confusion from the far-right and extremists as to what Musk did.
Same with the 'stand back and stand by'.
Same with the "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore," on Jan 6.
We can debate Musk's intention forever, while ignoring the impact.
I don't believe anyone would do that, to that crowd, then turn and do it again, without knowing what was behind it.

You can be photographed inadvertently throwing a Nazi salute, like Kamala. But you know she isn't. Look, it's an empty gesture! Yet you photograph Elon doing it and it's not so crystal clear. It's the character behind the gesture, and figuring out whether or not it's signposting the person. There's no countering of 'no, he didn't actually want to have a Twitter forum with far right German political parties'.
