Player Watch Father-Son Pick #25 (2019) - Jackson Mead

What a massive overreaction. He's taken big steps this year. Literally everyone played badly last night, it's ridiculous to write him off based on that game.

I agree with this, but we can only have him in the team, not he, McEntee and F. Evans, who should both be delisted before the next game.

I have said it before, that Jackson is a neat player, but doesn't have much x factor or speed.

He is a neat kick, he can kick well on his non preferred side unlike the majority of players on the list, he has good handball skills and he is smart footballer.

He was exposed for lack of speed on Thursday night. He is an inside mid forced to play HFF. Being about the same height and weight as Butters but not having his skill level means he gets exposed when he goes in the middle and doesn't win clearances. Its why he wont get much midfield time when we don't have many injuries.

Has made good strides this year. He is a good ordinary footballer type, that all good sides have, and need.

Agree. Against Freo, he did look zippier than usual though. Otherwise, his lack of speed and endurance running is not ideal for the high HF role.

He has played well this year when he is rotated through the middle. Hinkley isn't using him to the best of his abilities, but what's new.
Nor should he. Giving Mead more midfield minutes has to come at the expense of someone else, and we have 5 significantly better midfielders than Mead in our side.

Hinkley is to blame for a lot of things wrong with our side, but Jackson Mead being vanilla isn't one of them.

I’ve admired Mead this year. He is a limited football doing his best to get the most out of himself. For most of the year, he’s be a solid contributor and worthy first 22 player.

His form has significantly dropped since the showdown however. He’ll probably get a gig this week because there are players we need to drop before him.

Can Mead be transformed into a small defender?
Wouldn't be quick enough to play on the best small forwards, but then again, neither is Farrell or Houston.

Farrell literally came equal second in his draft combine 20m running 2.90 and backed it up winning equal first in the agility test meaning he has a turn of foot. Boy aint slow
Charlie Cameron and Tyson Stengle have made him look slow.

Mead has been alright.. has dropped off badly last 6ish weeks.
Maybe he's tiring a little after playing his first full season of AFL but I thought his game against Freo was one of his best. Shouldn't be cut, particularly when there are not any mids or small forwards who were doing any better for the Maggies apart from the inexperienced Lorenz.

Charlie Cameron and Tyson Stengle have made him look slow.

Them players make 98% of the competition look slow, kane aint slow theyre just freakishly fast.

Back to Mead, ever created a player in AFL live or any other footy game, his ingame stats would probably mirror a default midfield player. With kicking/agility very narrowly higher. Thats just the player he is. Now is there room for these types in the dynamic fast paced games of the modern day not really no. Days are gone of slow mids unless you have another freakish trait like sam mitchell and his kicking. Jackson doesnt have anything outstanding and therefore suffers and the team suffers as a result

Mead has improved quite a lot this year. Had played 42 games, 24 of which he played this year. Overall this year, he is an average player, a good all rounder, and a bit more consistency will help. Seems to be less visible in games against physical teams. But we all can’t be superstars.

Will do well against the Hawks and Sydney.

how old was Mitchell when he was drafted?

Im not saying they are the same player, but he is being given games out of his natural position because we are blessed with Rozee, Butters and JHF who’s best at stoppage is Elite, however the balance isn’t right. A good coach would understand this and evolve his team, a GREAT captain would be selfless and realise this also.

Luke Hodge was a great Centreman, however played 3 Flags at Half Back. James Hird got the job done as a midfielder but was Elite as a Half Forward.

Rozee should play the Half Forward and Mead on the pill for better team balance, Mead with Wines and Drew gives a better mix.

Mead with Wines and Drew is a bottom 4 midfield.
