its racing, strange things happen all the time.
Sure, horses and dogs can show form reversals, it happens.

When one runner takes off, entirely on its own, leading by 12-15 lengths (or more) until the home turn, and nobody in the field shows the slightest inclination to at least make a run, then it becomes a jockey initiative issue.

I always wonder why people don't understand the concept of a race - eg, where the object is that participants aim to be in front at the finish line.
i think you proved my point. Why take off early and then cart other horses into the race. Its not as simple as oh i better make my move now, you got to worry about whether you are on the best horse or is the horse going to find if its used all its energy chasing the leader. Horses have won at 100/1 throughout history for many reasons, it happens, its not always the fault of the other jockeys.

You have proven mine. Take out the SP for a minute of the winner, then watch the replay in the link below (go to Race 2). Take particular note of the pack that form the rest of the runners throughout, and in particular, how none change position at all until well in the straight. As I said in the first place, this is about initiative of jockeys involved and their willingness to use some. Also take note of the respective Benchmarks of the runners in the race in the race list - the winner was a BM47, next best was a 56.

To be clear - I had no financial interest at all in this race, had it on the background but saw it and wondered throughout why not one other jockey was willing to make any move whatsoever on their mounts until way too late.

Not ideal if you're in the main pack but not sure I want my horse to be the one carting the field up to the tearaway 100-1 shot which 99% of the time will stop as if shot on the corner anyway

It's just more evidence that jockeys have absolutely NFI how to ride in a race which if you haven't realised by now has been the case in Australia for at least 5 years and yet again massive evidence why we need pacemakers in this country so they will learn how to.

PS - being the horse that drags the rest of the field up to the tearaway leader is actually an excellent strategy more often that not.

Maybe the jockeys have seen it capitulate in the past, and it didnt this time. It happens. I am actually surprised that leaders dont try this tactic more. It gets the horses off the bit a long way from home and its sometimes hard to run them down.

one example please

Hey TJM, check ur PMs when you get a minute. Cheers

It's definitely not good to be the one carting the main field up. Going with the tearaway leader and just sitting off it but clear of the rest of the pack is a decent position though

So often the one dragging them up gets to the leader and its too late for anything else to get past it - 'carrying the field up' is a myth

If you are leading the pack behind the tearaway, isnt that effectively just the same as leading. You can choose to build speed slowly if you want or run at whatever speed your horse is comfortable with. If it's good enough it will win

Nah it takes away a lot of the positives that come with leading and just leaves the negatives. Can't just go at whatever speed is comfortable or you get examples like the one here

Like the one here today where the second horse just went along at its own tempo and the speed it was comfortable at?

What positives does it possibly take away? lel

What one? The race posted here where the horses chose to go at their own speed and lost? 🤔

The horse carting the field up is forced to run at a stronger tempo to keep up with the actual leader. Takes away a major benefit of actually leading. Still have to navigate another horse rather than having clean air

No its not - thats the whole point of this discussion - the race has a tearaway leader and the horse leading the pack can go what ever gallop it wants to.

Still have to navigate one horse 10 lengths ahead of you?! Fmd lol

Yeah it can go a nice steady gallop and never get near the 100-1 shot running along in front like today if it wants
