Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

The thing I find funny about this situation is when supporters from many different teams have a crack at Clarkson for sending Roughhead down to flood Fevola, with 5 minutes to go, Hawthorn 70 odd points up... to obviously just stop Fev reaching a personal milestone, the thread gets deleted.

A Hawthorn supporter (Mod I think) calls a someone a ****head and the other guy responds calling him the same thing and gets a redcard. Of course nothing happens to the guy who called him the same thing in the first place!!!

Now that a hawthorn supporter starts a thread calling Carlton supporters sore losers the thread is ok???

I dont think anyone (apart from Hawthorn supporters) is claiming that Fev should have been "Gifted the 100th" but flooding Fevola to purely just stop an Individual achievement... Nothing to further the Hawthorn Football club, was just plain pathetic, why was it not done earlier in the game. Hawthorn supporters know it... I mean eventually Clarkson even realised it was pathetic when he moved Roughhead away from Fev in the end.

For the record I would rather have seen a more sportmans like effort from Hawthorn to not just try an stop an individual achievement... completely contradicts the "team mentality" of the game, but I would rather have seen Fev kick a point with his last kick of the season:D

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

If you watch the replay, you'll see our runner go straight out to him and tell him to go forward again.

I honestly wanted Fevola to kick it, but all this "Clarkson/Hawthorn is/are dog(s)" crap is becoming wearing now. We're not in the habit of gifting anything to anyone, and I'd expect Carlton to do the same thing to us were the situations reversed.

Don`t worry about it mate, nothing Hawthorn did last nite could be considered wrong.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

When ur 13 goals in front?? Interesting tactic
I suppose he wanted to help his mates out. If you have a problem with that, then you really need to direct your bile at Roughy, for what, though, I know not.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

My only question to you is do the Hawks normally send one of the key forwards to sit 30m out from the opposition goal with 5 minutes left when they are leading by 78 points??

Can you please elaborate how long Roughead was down there for before he was told by the runner to vacate that position.

This is like Chinese whispers ... Started off as 2 on him, then 3, now 5 ... now the entire flipping squad.

Get a grip people ... he didn't get it ... you carlton supporters who are complaining should be aiming those complaints solely at Fev, because now hopefully he realises that it takes 22 weeks to achieve a milestone, and that the number of times he has sulked and bitched like a petulant little 5 year old throwing tantrums or wanting to take his bat and ball home when something doesn't go his way.

This should be the wake up call that Fev needed.

EARN IT.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

As a Carlton fan I would have loved to see the Fev notch up the ton, the interest in him and Buddy made what was otherwise a dead rubber a more interesting match. But that was just it, the interest was in the will they or won't they, not the when will Ratts and Clarko play a reverse flood to allow them a free run at the goal.
From a coaches point of view you never tamper with form, whether that be resting half the team for the game or letting in a few cheap goals. I do not begrudge Hawthorn's gameplan leading into a massive finals series for them.
Fev kicked at 66% for the season and dropped his head more than a few times in the preceding 22 weeks, he is to be commended for kicking 99 goals but like Peter Hudson kicking for goal number 151 his destiny was in his hands.
Good luck in the finals Hawks, you are the only genuine contender apart from the Cats.

My question is do Carlton usually spend pecious seconds deliberately looking for Fevola, when other options are open, and thus allowing our players to get back?

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

mmm

interesting

apparently the basis of the carlton arguement is, to be succinct "WAAA WAAA WAAA GIMME GIMME GIMME WAAA WAAA"

sounds like a familiar line.:thumbsu:

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

I think you're being fairly harsh there DK#1, I'm a very passionate Carlton supporter and I was at the game last night and was extremely disappointed that Fev couldnt make it to 100 goals. However, he did have his chances in the 1/4. As for Hawthorn, not sure if it was necessary to flood the Carlton forward line when 75 points in front in the last 1/4! Clarkson should of just made it a 1-on-1 in Carlton's forward and if Fev was good enough, i'm sure he would of got his ton. I just think it would of been a special moment if BOTH players had of achieved the milestone on the same night, would be a once in a lifetime moment!!!

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

100 goals in today's game is hardly the same as 10-15 years ago. Yeah, it's in the record books, but it is not as impressive as when forwards had to actually earn it, not get goals given to them a couple of times a game.

He finished on 99 goals. Who cares.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Hawthorn always has and always will play 'unsociable' football.

Fev should have kicked more goals prior to round 22 if he wanted the 100.
IMO he was pretty lucky to even kick 7 last night.

To kick 7 in a side that got well and truely thrashed is a monster effort. Especially considering they were all in the last half.

Yeah... should have played 'social' football like Carlton and got smashed by 80 odd points.

Still sooking....

its called practice mate!

if it is in a final, and an opponent has 7 in a low scoring match, you want players to stop him. Hawks were practicign with pressure on and did great

as for the nongs sayign fev should have got a free right near the end. look again.

Fev rams into gilham (via the back) and Croad without touching fevs back goes up and touches the ball.

Fev got paid against because his was in the back as he didnt touch the ball. Croad touched the ball.

get over it

Re: The joyless miser Hawks.

We're a spiteful team at Hawthorn,
we're the joyless miser Hawks.
We stack the backs even when we'll win,
although there's no glory therein. (for Hawthorn)
A goal for Fev we'll keep depriving,
at scragging Fev we'll never baulk.
One for all but all on one's the way we play at Hawthorn,
we are the unAustralian Hawks.

:thumbsu::D

We're a happy team at Hawthorn
We're the team that finish 2nd
We are playing finals again
With the Coleman around Buddy's neck:D

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Did people even watch the game?

Roughead kicked multiple goals in the last quarter, and was in the backline for a fraction of a minute.

How is that even an arugment?

Even if we wanted to move Roughead back, that is fine, we did it against St Kilda (didn't work) when they were on a role against us a few rounds back.

But even if that is some kind of arugment, in this pathetic petulant repsonse from the blues, he wasn't even down in the backline for more than a minute, he was kicking goals.

Yet 1 minute earlier, two Hawthorn players blocked Fev's run at the ball, making no attempt at the mark, while a further three Hawks raffled the mark between them. Clearly a free kick.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

I'd be more concerned about finishing an OK season with an 80 point pumping against a side who was already guaranteed number 2 spot on the ladder...

What this guy said is true! I'm devastated by the result, and couldn't care less about Fev (or Buddy) kicking a ton.

Can't believe how many people give a firetruck about this.
Carlton didn't make finals and didn't win a flag in 2008. That is all that matters to me!

No other awards or achievements come close.

Incidentally, I've seen about 5 or 6 Carlton supporters and a few opposition supporters having a whinge about Fev, but about 1000 whingeing about the whinge.

Sook it up the lot of you.

That's standard practice on the Collingwood Board.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Never saw Fev run so hard in a game before. Amazing how motivated the guy s for his own success - fails to show it for his club.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Pricing fixing cartel....$36m
Salary cap breach....$1m
Poaching WCE captain....$15m
Expecting the opposition to pass the ball to ur fullforward....priceless

Carlton seems to have plenty of cash so I'm surprised they were asking for a handout last night!

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

I think the problem people have had with it, is whether or not it was in the spirit of the game. If Fev was on 50 goals, would they have triple teamed him late in the game? Of course not. I don't think anyone was expecting Hawthorn to just hand him the 100, but just playing the game as you normally would is what probably should have been done. Going out of your way to prevent someone achieving a milestone is pretty ordinary.

You don't get it...footys more serious than that.......Buddy was going for the Coleman Medal as well as the 100..!!!! Give Fev a goal or 2...!! Your kidding

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Hahahaha i was at the game last night and my two stupid carlton supporting mates were having a whinge aswell!

Bad luck to Fev for not getting there, champion Full Forward but mate you cant be serious on gifting goals to players just because they're so close to the ton!

It has got nothing to do with "gifting goals". Gifting goals is when they take all opponents off him, or put a dud defender on him.

It shows a lack of respect for the game and for our club that he put four blokes - including one that NEVER plays in defence - onto Fevola.

Hawthorn will one day rue that decision - whatever neutral supporters were out there before will change their mind rapidly on Hawthorn as a club. Go Cats! Go Bulldogs! Go Crows! Go Swans!
