it’s been close to happening a few times now:

1996: Bears & Swans were top going into final round
2003: prelim (close game until last quarter)
2016: very close to NSW GF
2022: prelims
2023: very close to Lions-Giants GF

Bears butchered the last round of the 1996 season with the McIntyre system in use then. Despite winning their first final they had to play again in week 2

It's a great grand final, I know these teams have been in recent GFs, but it's an intriguing match up as I assume these two have never played outside of either Brisbane or Sydney
