Bet/Tip with your head, Support with your heart

i hate that saying.

i have to say though, i have never been involved in any serious tipping comps & and i dont gamble money, so thats why i never felt the need to tip with my head :p. i havent tipped carlton once in like 3 years and it aint about to start this year :thumbsu:

if i truly think that the roos will not win then i wont tip them. i see nothing wrong with tipping with your head not heart especially when there is money involved. however when i tip against them and they win, it is a shocking feeling.

I regularly tip against my team.

The fact of life is that your team is going to lose games. I reakon my team will lose 9-12 games this year. So why not try to tip those games.

As someone else said it's a win win. I care far more about Sydney winning than getting the tip, so if they win and I didn't tip themm, who cares, they got the win.

Tipping. The are $$$$ up for grabs. Tip the team you think is going to win, I've tipped against the swans once this year and tipped them once and got them both right so far. You know your team therefroe you know what there going to do better than the other teams, don’t waste that advantage.

I often do, and normally if I can't decide whether or not to tip us I won't, that way when you lose you have the tiniest bit of consolation.

I have tipped correctly in both Richmond games thus far. Wont tip us this weekend

In the comp my mates and l set up, if you tip against your own team and you lose you get deducted a point. Conversely if you are a rank outsider (outside $3.50 on Sportsbet on Friday morning) and you tip your team and get up you get a bonus point for gutsy tipping. Sucks for me as a cats man as it is largely irrelevant to me. But keeps those blueboys and dees fans interested!

We also have a floating tip each week nominated by the comp leader. Eg : Most tackles of the round etc.

We're trying to think of more rules to make it as ridiculous as possible.

thanks for the replies.

everyone has been talking about the win-win situation AFTER the match has finished, but what about DURING the match.

if i tipped against my own team, during the match i'd be going for them but the feeling i may lose the tip will take away from enjoying the game to the fullest capacity, especially if it's a contest/tight match. anyone else feel like this?

im getting a bit better but i still tip us most of the time...

i dont tip us because i feel like ill be betraying them by tipping the opposition, but more because i talk myself into thinking we are a pretty good shot to beat the eagles in perth (for example), when clearly it's against the odds.

it never mattered from 2001-04, because id get 17/22 right anyway :p

There's being loyal, then there is just being realistic.

Have tipped against the Dons many times in recent years and will continue to do so, most of the times I've been right. Still love the club and want them to win every game they play and would prefer getting the tip wrong, I don't think it makes you a bad supporter if you tip against your side. Others disagree though.

:thumbsu:

I feel that way as well, I have tipped against Adelaide twice already this season. I would also rather get the tip wrong and see Adelaide win rather than stupidly tip Adelaide in every game irrespective of the opposition.

Seriously if you were a freo supporter and you were playing Geelong this week at KP would anyone actually tip Freo, if you would then there is no point even being in a footy tipping comp.

Funny you should say that - remember a few years back when Freo were big outsiders taking on Geelong at KP? I still tipped them and they got up. I was the only one in the comp I was in who got it right.

Geelong are a lot more formidable these days but the principle is still the same. I could never tip against Freo and even if I did I'd probably get it wrong. We win half the games we're expected to lose and lose half the games we're expected to win. Might as well just tip Freo every week and hope for the best.

I don't take footy tipping comps seriously anyway. It's only money. Unless you're struggling to make ends meet then who really cares?

I tipped West Coast for every game they played last season. Even the one against Port at AAMI where we had 17 players out injured or suspended. Also tipped them against Geelong at Skilled i think that was right after the 200+ game against richmond. Still managed 119 and came second at work to a guy who got 121 and was ranked 13th in the West's tipping comp.

Havn't tipped against the Bulldogs this year and I'm quite happy with that. I rarely do, last year I did alot towards the end of the year. If it's a 50/50 game like this week against the Saints I'll always pick em.

Geelong fans not welcome in this thread :)

Ok, I only ever recall tipping against port once and that was in 2001. They ended up winning and I felt like a ****.

I'm a Geelong supporter and I actually tipped port in the 1st round. I have no issues in my club losing a game or two in the home and away season as long as they finish in the top 4 preferably top 2. It's all about winning finals and premierships for me, couldn't give a toss about going through a whole season undefeated.

I never used to tip against Essendon, but last year I came last in the tipping comp with my mates and had to wear a Richmond jumper on a night out as punishment!

So this year, I'm not coming last again!

Imagine how the Richmond players feel! They have to wear one every week ha ha.

regards,

REB
