Gold Coast didn’t think Will Brodie could match it with their better mids. Brodie thought otherwise, backed himself in and the rest is history. Tucker might do the same at NM, I personally hope that he can, that would be nice to see.

The difference being Brodie didn't really get any chance to prove it. Tucker has had plenty of chances here.

Tucker had over 100 games to prove that he was as good as any of our other mids. Maybe about 5 of those and a few quarters he was actually at that level. Truth is he never recovered after that hammy. Credit to him though he tried plenty of times to get better and play good football for us, even when he was on the outer. Unlike Griff who looked for an easy way out and started exploring his options after getting dropped once.

Tucker was given honesty and a ticket to explore.
Not sure why I feels the need to bag freo
I get the feeling he wanted to stay more than anyone else that left tbh. I remember he gave that whole spiel about loyalty before his 100th. Probably just salty that the club didn't want him and play him as much as he wanted to stay.

Yeah Tucker was the definition of loyalty. Never been a whisper about him being anything but 100% committed to Freo.
I have a lot of sympathy for him. It’s true that he was never given the opportunity to play purely as an inside mid which is where he sees himself.
Some of the footy he played in the WAFL this year was of a very high standard & to not be given a look in I think it’s totally understandable he left.
I’m looking forward to seeing what he can produce if he stays fit & is given opportunity inside the mids group at North.

'I couldn't say no': The phone calls that convinced new Blue to make the move - 'I couldn't say no': The phone calls that convinced new Blue to make the move

It's a convoluted way of saying "Carlton offered me way more cash than Freo because I'm a spud"

Seriously, are we not at the point of players just saying they went for cash? Of course they should be choosing the higher dollar amount.

Agree with your thoughts, but hate the article using terminology such as Freo making a "low ball offer". Typical media.

I mean, we definitely did make a low ball offer

We offered him peanuts, if we gave him market he would still be here

It doesn't have to be a bad thing but its what happened

180k for a 27 year old in his 10th season is a lowball offer
I believe he had incentives, which if met would have matched or surpassed the Carlton offer. I am a fan of acres but don't blame Freo for that offer given that he played his best footy in a contract year - incentives seem to bring out the best in him. Perhaps the media or Acres could have just said he prefered the blues offer and left it at that....but I guess that isn't sensational enough.

Incentives are shit for a fringe player, look what happened to Conca, we just stopped playing him and he was gone

Acres would have to be braindead to take our deal at his age when Carlton are knocking with a decent contract

I know it's hard to look at it from his P.O.V as a docker fan but it's just being realistic

As bad as it is, Fremantle DEFINITELY offered a low ball contract. The club isn't shying from that. See how it goes this season. Hopefully Wagner, Henry, Young or Chapman fill his spot. Acres will be a bloody good get for Carlton

I hope he's as good for Carlton as he was for us in his first two years here.

Said it many times before but right decision from both parties.

And then Caleb added 4 years to his contract 🤷‍♂️

not sure if the footy community is ready for players to actually come out and say it yet.
