That'd hold significantly more weight if the compensation formula wasn't held under lock & key by AFL house. For all we know - he certainly qualified for some degree of late pick compensation.

Call me cynical, but I bet if it was a Collingwood veteran - they'd have extracted some sort of low level compo pick.

He basically loses 12 points due to his age (2 points for each year over 25) but the swans offer wouldn't have been anything over the average wage tbh

Hamling has previously been pretty respectful of the club in past interviews. I just think he was a bit too candid in that moment. And it's become a headline.

I don't begrudge him. He gets opportunity and a longer/better deal. We pick up a ready made back-up who has a few more years in the tank.

I'm also glad to see we're trying to squeeze every dollar where possible. We can't be in the business of matching or bettering deals for depth players. We'll end up like Gold Coast, GWS etc.

Seriously? Pretty good at list management lately. Agree on our approach though. On Hamling, he‘s entitled to look after himself, just really immature in the media for a guy who’s been around forever.

What did he expect? Another couple of mill for a bloke who was getting paid a very nice wage to play 6 games since 2019?

I am still 100% convinced he comes out of retirement halfway through a season, kicks 50 in 10 games for Souths, we pick him up in the SPP and he kicks 60 in a season for us then retires on a Mad Monday Bender.
Seems to be the most likely storyline for Dardy McCrafty.
Well…. Maybe 98% convinced….(still 100% on the Mad Monday part)

How refreshing (or boring) is it that now all of our players are model citizens and no longer grace the back or front pages of the papers. Clearly good character is near the top of the list for Walls and co when picking all of our players now.

We really went from all the drama of Hogan, Bennel, Dardy, Brad Hill outside a nightclub in handcuffs to 'Do you think the playing group secretly find Acres and Logue a bit annoying?'

Didn't he pack a sad at Souths, because he was relegated to the seconds after poor performances in the league?
The club, Fremantle, went through a period where we were almost a half way house for those with with mental issues.And we had a few take a lend of us at that stage.

Thankfully, that stage is now done and dusted.

I reckon every great side needs a rascal/trouble maker in there but backs it up on the field. And kept under control off the field.

You won't win anything with all church mouses. Wayne Bennett reckons most teams sports to be successful you always need a few players who are out there and express themselves.

It's too ruthless a sport. And you need that alpha player that doesn't give a toss about consequences with the arrogance to drag his team over the line.

We don't have that.
