And that is why Sheedy is doing what he is doing......It win/win for him.
Either it compromises Hawthorn, or he lands a big fish.
Why wouldnt he stir up trouble.....even if he has no intention of carrying through
He is as big a snake as Pickering.

Or it's just the easiest way imaginable to keep GWS in the headlines and being talked about.

Does anyone know what "match the offer" actually means? As, with a restricted free agent the current club has the chance to match the offer and then the player decides to stay or be traded. StKilda opted not to "Match" Essendons offer so lost Goddard and got a lucky dip consulation prize.

If Buddy receives a formal free agency offer, what terms do we have to match, contract length, money per year, total money, money for the upcoming season only etc... So many variables in a contract.

This is good....

http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2013-07-06/confident-franklin-will-stay-manager

AFL PLAYER manager Liam Pickering has insisted he is 'very confident' his client Lance Franklin will sign a new contract with Hawthorn.
Greater Western Sydney admitted this week it had opened talks with Pickering about luring the Hawks star north, with reports the club is set to offer a massive $12 million, six season contract at Franklin.
However, Pickering said the Giants had yet to offer anything, saying they were involved in preliminary talks only, before adding he believed Franklin would stay with Hawthorn.
"To be honest, there's only really one in it, which is Hawthorn," Pickering told SEN Radio on Saturday.
"They're the ones I've got the offer from and it's where he plays. The better they go, the more chance he is of staying, in my view.
"I'm very confident that he'll stay.
"At the moment I'm dealing with Hawthorn, and I have had discussions with the Giants obviously."
Pickering insisted he'll deal with GWS, saying Franklin won't speak with the club.

My 2 cents worth:

Agents have and will do what is best for their client first and by extension they gain too. Pickering is many things but ultimately he is guided by Buddy but he will offer his opinion throughout the process.

On a pure financial basis it is an uneven playing field in GWS' favour BUT in emotional, short to medium term likelihood of success basis it is no contest in our favour.

From a public perception and looking from a distance, the way we have respected Buddy's request to delay the process, not appeared to having a daily briefing to the media at every drop of the hat and just our whole approach in total strikes me as extremely professional. It would make me think that I like they way HFC do business and it is a place that I respect. The little I know of Buddy (a friend knows a family member but no inside scoop I'm afraid), these values actually mean something to him and his family.

I think he will stay for the right reasons - being part of a special group under the best coach at club where he is appreciated. I think the delay is a part of the process many of us would undertake in his shoes. He has been made a life changing offer and his head has been turned a little to the extent that the thought of leaving has actually been seriously considered for the first time and this conflict has been a major problem for him. You can imagine how many people must be saying variations of " I know it is your decision but if it was me...".

I hope I'm right and today he enjoys a great win over the Cats with our fans helping him enjoy another great Hawks day!

Well, I take Pickers at his word. I don't recall there being statements like this during the Ablett saga. He may yet go, but I don't believe it is a done deal by any stretch.

We know Pickering and Sos have "talked" about Buddy, but no "Official" contract in writing has been received by Pickering and co. Hearing Shady at times, I get a little niggle between my ears, that the Sheikh is getting p..d off about Buddy & Pickering. He stated he does not like the fact that Vic.teams won't offer up a top experienced player.. mmm...Not sure I am as confident he was going as I was. 95% he will go, who knows?

Your coming around LMH!! We'll convince you eventually that he is gonna stay..:D

Not going and never was sport!
So why hasn't he signed ?! Entertaining other offers ?!

Oh that's right....."Yeah, nah just want to concentrate on my footy and things will take care of themselves at the end of the year"

Bullsiht. !

You know it, I know it , he knows it !

Roughead did it.
beta thinks Rougheads a fool.

Seriously, only those players thinking too much about their own self importance wait to see what their worth on the open market.

Hawks.."Franklin, we'd like to offer you $900,000+ a year for 4 years"
Pickers .."Buddy that's a great offer by the Hawks, you've both been great for each other, lets get it done"
Franklin to Hawks/Pickers..."yeah it's a great offer but let's leave it til the end of the year"
Franklin to Pickers only.."Let's see how much I can get on the open market, look at Ablett...I'd be fool just to sign the Hawks offer. How's Roughy, what a dickhead ! Could've got heaps more if he shopped himself around, could've milked the Hawks for more ! FOOL !"
Pickers to Buddy..sigh.."OK Bud, let's leave it til after the season"

:D

Well you think Roughy is delusional, since he believes that Buddy will stay.

He is not playing to the level that is warranting the money that is being touted for his services...

Don't you get it? They want a "big" name up there, they don't necessarily want him for his playing ability. The AFL (oops I mean GWS) want the biggest name in the AFL up there to promote the game. That is all... Lance Franklin, the AFL's puppet on a string.
