Franks for the memories. Things don't always go well with COLA

I reckon how this will pan out is that the AFL will give GWS a priority pick, so they have picks one and two. Franklin will insist as part of this signing on with GWS that Hawthorn is appropriately compensated and I think one of those picks will come to Hawthorn. I also think the deal will include more than one player and one pick from both clubs.

This way the AFL ensures everyone is kept happy.

The AFL won't give GWS a priority pick. Sure, we may not mind all that much if the above goes down as the only difference to what is looking likely to happen otherwise is that we get pick 1 or 2 instead of pick 20-ish for Buddy. To the other 16 clubs it just looks like GWS are getting another concession. One they don't need considering the amount of young talent they already have.

Buddy will be going for the money primarily, lifestyle a distant second....

He'll get his 1.5-2 million to do nothing but play football as a free agent.

The AFL will probably chuck in another chunk for marketing the game but to Buddy he's already close to double what he'd get with the Hawks..would probably be just as happy without the added pressure of being the AFLs bitch no matter what they're paying.

Wouldn't you be too?

Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't that along the lines of what Kurt Tippet and Adelaide did. To tamper with the drafting/trading wouldn't go down too well I don't think.
Unless I'm wrong about it and looking at it the wrong way!

If it's AFL sanctioned draft tampering it's ok

Where's the tampering the AFL awards GWS a priority pick as the worst performed side over the last two years, potentially not winning a game this year and just one last year. That makes them on that sample the worst performed side in any two year period over the last twenty years. Hence, the AFL has a justification for the priority pick, but in reality it enables the outcome the AFL wants which is to get Franklin to GWS.

Franklin wants the money but also wants to do the right thing by Hawthorn, hence he insists GWS do a trade with Hawthorn for his services and it would involve their first pick or the priority pick. GWS don't care because they are no worse off under this situation; the AFL achieves its goal of Franklin to GWS; Hawthorn is compensated which would annoy the AFL and the other clubs but this is considered ancillary to the primary objectives.

In a nutshell Buddy will sign on the eve of our first final. The players and supporters will be galvanised at the best possible time.

Awesome ....another declaration of certainty. That will fit in perfectly with all the other absolutes that contradict each other.

Great news about Cyril but i'm getting to the stage where I don't care whether Buddy stays or not .He is our best player but really hasn't proved to be a match winner in big games yet anymore so than Roughead or Mitchell .Cyril has ,the tackle on the members wing in the 2008 GF lifted the whole side ,his efforts alone got us over the line against NM earlier this year.Buddy got towelled up in the 2008 GF he missed crucial goals in 2012 ,and whoever plays on him from the cats these days owns him from the first bounce ,IMO even the rumoured counter offer we have put on the table against GWS 's rumoured $12mill is too much and has the ability to disrupt the team in terms of salarie cap room.
I've taken the above quote from the Junior thread, as didn't want to hijack his good news thread.
Crawf has said a few times how Buddy sacrificed his own game for the team in the 08 GF. Watching the game again recently it struck me how little impact Scarlett had. In the final quarter with 10 min to go and Geelong pressing and less than 3 goals down, Buddy kicked a crucial goal.

If Buddy had re-signed already we wouldn't have to read these posts about how poor Buddy is
Because people think he is gone, the hate comes out

You have to think that the $1 million in salary cap relief will get us a player that will have a better output than Franklin is giving us this year.

The question is whether such a player will be in the free agency pool, out of contract or we can coerce them from another club via a trade.

I honestly believe we would be a better side with a Dangerfield type burst/run and carry goalkicking mid than Buddy based on his form for the last 2 seasons. His output is that of a HFF - 15-20 touches and 3 goals a game. A mid as described above who can get 35 a game and kick 1 goal would be more valuable for mine.

I would also be making a play for Yarran from the blues to add to our rebounding defender stocks. He needs a change of club and has an abundance of talent.

Don't think we need to get rid of Buddy to bring in Yarran. I would certainly look at him to replace Burger.

3 goals per game and 15-20 is pretty good for any player. No KPP in the league average better across their career than 3 per game. Last year Buddy was excellent. he kicked 4 or more goals in 8 straight games last year leading into the finals (including his bag of 13). Kicked 10 goals in three finals and was just about best on ground in the GF. Not getting that from him this year of course. Is this the new norm or the exception to the rule?

Performance in big games?

Adelaide 07 elimination final 7 goals
Bulldogs 08 qualifying final 8 goals
Sydney 12 GF 4 goals and close to Norm Smith

Just to name a few. Sheesh
Totally agree, preaching to the converted
I hope you didn't mis-read my post that you quoted, I was responding to a question

Sorry BM, I was getting peeved reading the negative posts and misinterpreted what you wrote.
No probs at all
I know what your saying, you'd be forgiven for thinking he doesn't play for Hawthorn reading some of the crap here!
As soon as he signs with us (hope) watch the "man love " return in waves!
