Pickering on SEN this morning pushing the line that he "honestly believes that Buddy will stay with the hawks...."
Really, reminds me of Scully's manager Alastair Lynch " yeah, you would be confident in saying that he will stay at melbourne"

Only thing I believe is the truth, who, where and when that is, who knows.

Yeah HFC jusf posted on twitter "buddy franklin's manager juat declared he is very confident buddy will sign with hawthorn"
Not sure how much weight that carries..

Well Pickering would have more idea of what Buddy will do than anyone here. That is not to say that even he knows for sure.

The difference between Scully and Buddy is that the former was lured from a poor team to another poor team.
He also said that if Hawthorn go well this year he expects the Budweiser to sign.

Ok here's my proposed deal to keep all parties happy "when" Buddy goes:

Perhaps GWS send pick 1 to the dogs in exchange for the Bulldogs first pick and use it on Scharenberg, Hawks send pick 19-20 to the Dogs for Ryan Griffen....that way GWS have Buddy, Cameron, Patton and Scharenberg in their key position stocks.
Dogs get their once in a generation full forward (Boyd) they can build their side around for the next 10 years while also getting another first round pick from the Hawks.
Hawks get the exact midfield type they need in Griffen (who is a walk up start in a premiership contender), still keeping their Buddy compo pick for the draft, GWS get Buddy and a KPD ready to play in the draft and virtually only slide 2-3 places in the draft but still get the best KPD in the draft.

Dont discount GWS trading for a possible buddy compo pick

From the expansion point of view its one thing GWS getting buddy but youd think the -AFL would like to see them trade the future a bit to get competitive now.
The recruiters there have been a bit too cute and they should get a rocket up them

We know Pickering and Sos have "talked" about Buddy, but no "Official" contract in writing has been received by Pickering and co. Hearing Shady at times, I get a little niggle between my ears, that the Sheikh is getting p..d off about Buddy & Pickering. He stated he does not like the fact that Vic.teams won't offer up a top experienced player.. mmm...Not sure I am as confident he was going as I was. 95% he will go, who knows?

This, can you honestly see Bud walk out on premiership celebrations
I can't to be honest. If hawthorn go well this year = premiers. Imagine if we did land it the feeling at glenferrie oval the next day, he would be presented as duel premiership hero, then on Tuesday he walks out?? I simply couldn't imagine walking away from that, but again, we all have no idea and by the way, we haven't won the flag yet.

Take Pickering's words for what they are. His opinion. An opinion that holds no weight on what Buddy will actually do. If Buddy does end up leaving and people turn to Pickering like "WTF?! But you said--" he will just say "I said I thought he would probably stay!"

Hey Pess, could you please expand on how this may work ?
Cheers

This is more than likely it is just a ploy with the GWS..Shady is a snake, there is nothing more I would like is for Buddy to say" Nope, I am not interested in going to Sydney.I Love the Hawks, and I am NOT going anywhere but here"*Sigh* Oh well I can dream!!

I honestly dont care if Buddy stays or goes now.
The biggest drawback is off-field IMO.....but we still have Cyril.
We have plenty of options to cover the foward line.....beit Buddy does attract 2 and 3 defenders which opens up the forward line for others to chip in.
But I dont think that we should be throwing $1.2 million at one player. I would rather use that to recruit 2 x 600K mids to regenerate our midfield with the looming retirements of Mitch, Sewell etc.
If we can somehow orchestrate a trade for Bud instead of just accepting a compensation pick (pick 20 or thereabouts), then we can use that also to recruit for needs. This should set us up for sustained success into the future.

The club is bigger than one player.

It really is a ploy. What ever GWS offer we will have to match.
We match it and it will likely squeeze someone else from our list and weaken Hawthorn.
That is still a win for GWS as they start to emerge in the next couple of years, and for the rest of the competition.

I reckon there are a few people here who want Buddy to go, so they can say "I told you so"!

How many times do people need to be told that Hawthorn WON'T compromise our list for the sake of 1 player!

And that is why Sheedy is doing what he is doing......It win/win for him.
Either it compromises Hawthorn, or he lands a big fish.
Why wouldnt he stir up trouble.....even if he has no intention of carrying through
He is as big a snake as Pickering.

I am a long way from the action, and I don't get to read local press, or hear radio opinions, but from reading most of the posts here, I get the impression there is a lack of transparency in the whole free agency deal.

I have some questions.
I believe COLA will be added to any offer GWS make to Buddy. So the fact that we only have to match their offer is pointless, as he and Pickering know COLA will be added.

The same could be said for any ambassadorship. Speaking of which, and a little off the subject, I noticed Bryce Gibbs is an ambassador for Pratt's cancer what ever it is. Does he get extra over and above Carlton's cap for that?

Can we and GWS do a deal before Trade week as we did for Anderson?

What are the best and worse scenarios that could happen as far as our club is concerned?

Anderson was traded for Gilham! Last day too from memory

Again with the word compromise !
It won't
We have signed 7 players since Buddy decision to hold off
We know exactly what we can afford, for Bud and others
If no other club had Buddy in their sights, our offer would be the same
Where's the compromise?
