Just listened to the interview in 360. He sounds fairly happy. Maybe weight lifted from his shoulders, a bit like his body language had changed during the Essendon game. My understanding is that the club has made him a final offer and if so, there is no sense to wait until the end of the season to sign. I'm guessing and only guessing of course, that he has received the right offer but from another club. Gone. Don't be surprised if he plays back pocket on Friday night.

Robbo: After hearing you today I expect you to be at hawthorn next year.

Buddy started rambling about how he loves the club

Robbo: But are you going to be at hawthorn next year.

Buddy: he started stuttering then ended up getting very defensive. i'll wait till the end of the year.

Would it have been so hard to say yes I expect to be at Hawthorn next year!

I've been practising Buddy's signature. Send the contract here and I'll take care of it.
Or better still I'll have a printer draft up a bogus one, sign it L Franklin and send it to Vlad.

Yeah, Buddy generally rolls out the cliches but sounded very much like he was sticking to a well rehearsed script tonight. The play on words with Robbo on "will play with Hawthorn" as against to "want to play with Hawthorn" and then there was the "been there 9 years, same as Clarko, Lewis, Rough etc. That bit just wasn't convincing at all. Lacked a full stop to the statement.

Do you think its not just the money , but the chance to be captain of GWS (ala Ablett)?
Or going home to WA? Lucky the Essendon saga has removed the spotlight from him to a degree.
It will be more intense come September though...

I remember being in Bangkok many many years ago and meeting a bloke who knew a bloke whose brother could forge just about any document one might need. Just behind the pool hall on Khao San Rd. You might be the brother?

I have no idea whether he will stay or not but kinda over it and I'm happy for it to come to a head at the end of the finals and find out then. I believe he is gone or will go but I've changed my mind many times, today hasn't helped really as much as some think it's good news. I still do believe though that he wants to see all offers put to him then make a decision but my feeling is he will go and take the money. I hope not.

If he goes then good on him, make as much money as you can, just know that he won't go down as a true Hawthorn great which will be a big shame. If we can use the free money to help build our future or keep our window open for longer than it could be a blessing in disguise, but how we utilize the money and what options open up will determine that.

I want to point out one thing to the people saying who cares if Buddy leaves, FREE AGENCY will help us

For starters Free Agency is the reason we may lose one of the best Hawthorn players from the past 20 years and secondly, it's not that easy for a club to just click their fingers and use free agency to find some young gun mids for us to get. The only real options this year and most likely next are older unwanted players. Our best chances will be trading for those players by offloading players like Sewell or draft picks etc. With the limitations and the restrictions on Free Agency atm it makes it really hard for clubs to make the most out of it

I hope the great man can stay and become a Hawthorn great!

I'm not buying it.

The first time he shows any affirmation of wanting to be at the Hawks is when he's flogging a shoe to the public. Which public? Well, I don't think very many GWS supporters are chomping at the bit at buying a Buddy shoe. He's aiming his market fairly and squarely at Hawks supporters specifically and Victorians in general. It's a massive PR exercise - saying you'd love to be at Hawthorn next year but don't state you actually plan to. It's called 'maximising revenue'. I hate to say it, but this has got 'w-a-n-k-e-r' written all over it.

Are you playing us all for fools Buddy? How about this... I'd love to buy your shoes, having had a long involvement with you at the Hawks for over 9 years. However, I will put off my decision to buy said shoes until the end of the season. Every Hawthorn supporter should be categorically stating the same.

It is what it is. :p Flog.

Welcome to Visy Mack Buddy.
I hope you have lots of fun spending the ambasadorial money we now provide you to stay at the Hawthorn Football Club!

For what it's worth...that's the way Buddy's Mack boots launch appeared to me yesterday.
FYI - Mack make and sell trucks, not street shoes people!

I am not sure what some of you guys expect him to do.
If he is leaving, he and the club cannot announce it at the risk of derailing our season.
If he is delaying his decision because he wants to understand what he is worth on the free market, I can understand that. We would be no different.

This is the new era of free agency so get over yourselves and accept that is the way it is now.

"I want to stay at Hawthorn".

I have wanted to stay at a couple of jobs over the years, but have left due to them not matching a competitive offer I have received. I am sure he genuinely feels all of the things he stated, but it does not mean he will stay.
Gary Ablett, Scully, Goddard all said exactly the same things.

The day will come when he announces his decision. It will be something like this.
" I love this club and my mates, but the time has come for me to move on, and a new challenge ahead of me. Of course I will miss the club and my mates, but a new opportunity has been offered to me, one that I cannot refuse. My home has been in W.A,and Freo is a team with a huge chance of winning their first grand final in a couple of years.I am sure you will all understand why I have made this decision, thank you"

Ouch you buggers, I copped that arrow from you lot..hehe:D

I thought you were convinced he'd already committed to GWS?

well I'm with agent Smith up there, I'm not buying the Buddy boot until the end of the season ;)

Not me mate, but there's not a lot you can't get here, and the quality isn't bad on most cases.

Didnt sound very convincing but he never does.

Yesterday could be the day of the first sign buddy is staying at hawthorn or the day he cynically milked a little more cash from hawthorn fans before leaving

I actually have less confidence hearing that from Bud... a week ago i was confident he would sign, but coming out and just saying that crap. If you want to stay why not sign? Waiting to see if we would improve our offer?

Prepare for life after Buddy...
