I thought I'd put a poll up to understand where our BF fans see the officialdom in football in general. This is mostly in the AFL but could also include the SANFL as we seem to do poorly there too.

Please note what happened against Freo on Saturday was not totally the umpires fault as we went scoreless in the last quarter but giving 4-5 goals away from umpire assisted goals did not help our cause.

Also our so called home ground advantage has been none existent but strangely it seems when we do lead a freekick count, most commentators question the result.

Something fairly dramatic and possibly expensive could do the trick. Needs something that the media talk about for a week and has the afl not wanting to see a repeat of it.

The thing is that even if we are getting a rogering from the umpires we can’t complain because it looks like sour grapes.

Everyone saying we lost because of our final quarter. So we play three quarters with scores fairly even while getting reamed by the umpires. Then we lose the fourth quarter and that means the match was fair?

Has been happening to us for ever we were just good enough to beat the umps as well in the sanfl. Have always believed complaining won't help but I've had enough it's so bad the club must kick up a stink.
But they won't might abuse 1 on wkend and try to get kicked out and hopefully banned for the rest of the yr.

Another poster noted that at Optus in four games we have been 108-56 against. I refuse to believe we are that undisciplined when we play there compared to other grounds. Surely at the very least that has something to do with the "promotion of the new ground" factor?

I could almost accept the "Optus Stadium factor" if in turn we were the beneficiary of a similar "Adelaide Oval Factor", which we aren't.

While we bend over and take it in the arse, nothing will change. Clarkson, Buckley, et al miss a few free kicks and whinge about it without getting fines. When Pyke had a whinge about Sloan getting mugged at every contest, not only did he not get fined, not only did sloan get free kicks he deserved, he also got made up ones as well. The one thing you can guarantee is we will take it up the arse and say nothing. We're 3rd last for free kick differential this year and we have been consistently in the bottom half for 5+ years. The only time Hinkley has whinged was when he started to feel the heat on him personally with that Jenkins review whinge. People keep on talking about all the close games we lose and how Hinkley is a shit coach. How many of those close games have asterisks next to them? 2 extra wins completely change our season every year since 2014 and I feel like we have had at least 2 close games ripped off of us those years. We still win some when we are being outright cheated, but we can't win them all. We shouldn't have to do everything 100% right to win against teams. Hawthorn, Collingwood, Bulldogs, West Coast, Sydney have got their run of good luck over the last few years. When was the last time we won a game we didn't deserve because the umps carried us? If Hinkley is a shit coach it is because he wants to have this nice guy persona. He should defend his players and call out shit umpiring, and maybe that might balance the ledger a bit and keep him in a job for a while longer.

the gillon/hinkley effect.

#sackgillon #sackhinkley

Everytime Hinkley bends over and accepts the umpires raping us, they think its ok to keep on doing so. Classic submissive mentality, if you don't stand up for yourself it'll just keep happening over and over again. As much as I dislike the whinging Scott brothers, it bloody works.

It happens so often (getting reamed) at AO that no-one protests too hard anymore, it's just become the expected thing.

Voss on SEN this am mentioned the free kicks and said we have to look at our own part in that.
Okaaaay

Voss was pathetic, and so weak.

I'm not usually one to play the umpire card after a loss but I dare anyone to watch last Saturdays game and take note of the policing of incorrect disposal and holding the ball and not come to the conclusion we were playing against a different interpretation than Freo were.

They were rewarded for tackling, we were not. They were given latitiude, we were not. It was cheating - no more, no less. They wanted a result and did their best to make sure they got the result they wanted.

At one point during the third quarter the free kick count was 18-10 in Freo's favour. Not good, but from that point on it went 14-5 during the most important minutes of the game. Almost 3 to 1 for crunch time.

It was appalling umpiring and we should be saying we are not happy with how it went. We don't need to personally criticise umpires but we can (as many better AFL coaches do) say we are not happy and will be seeking to speak to the AFL regarding clarification as soon as possible.

Umpires don’t cheat it’s all in your head

*CHECKS FREES FOR/AGAINST STATS IN THE SANFL SINCE THE NOAFLINSANFL PROTESTS STARTED*

DErr HUH??

Anyone that says "It wouldn't happen/It can't happen/umpires have too much integrity" or whatever, I point them to the SANFL stats.

If one competition can tip the balance one way for no financial gain, so too can the other, especially one with more resources and much more to gain financially.

Dumb footballers tend to give away lots of dumb free kicks and we have some of the dumbest footballers to ever play the game.

I think people are brushing over this fact. We have a lot of very talented and hard working players, but the collective IQ of the entire playing list still wouldn't surpass triple digits.

That applies to Motlop calling for a handball receive and getting caught cold trying to break the dual-tackle immediately in his path.

Notsomuch for what we saw for the bulk of that contest, which was Freo players given carte blanche to attack the ball and the man while ours were on a hiding to nothing.

So we’ll just park that one next to other tight games where we were bent over and eventually broke and just copped it on the chin as 100% our fault that we didn’t enjoy strings of inconsistently adjudicated decisions and free goals in nailbiters ultimately decided by a kick or two:
