Pretty much. I was all for moving Lyon on BUT at least clean up our departments properly with his removal. No point removing the head but keeping the body. It seems like Groundhog Day with this shit every season.

Maybe it was financially driven due to payouts to Lyon & Rosich etc...? If Webber and Co are still there at the end of the season and there hasnt been a massive injury turnaround with a changing game plan & coaching group then its gotta be the final straw.

I thought it was madness signing him for another 2 years. That's a bigger issue in that the fitness staff actually think they can fix players but they clearly cant.

it has to do with drafting / trading as well.

Hogan / Bennell / Apeness came to the club with injury Histories.

A.Pearce / S.Hill did not. Or not to my memory.

The issue is deeper than the S&C.

I agree that our drafting of injury prone players is an issue. Conca, Acres and Aish all aren't durable players too (from recent recruiting)

Repeat of the same injury is the main issue though!! I have lost total faith that the club is capable of fixing serious issues. Sadly It wouldn't surprise me if Hogan and Pearce never get over their leg issues.

And... I look forward to another year of TBC (We have no clue when they will be back and have no faith in our estimated recovery timelines)

What is it with our S&C team and not easing Stephen Hill back into games slowly. Everyone else would always come back for restricted minutes at Peel.

Not SHilly, pretty sure that his last few quads have all been done in his first game back. Each game he was scheduled for the full game. Why oh why haven't they tried easing him back in like they do with every other player. Why does Hilly always come straight back into full minutes?

I don't care how good our S&C team think they are, or how well they talk themselves up. The results of their work over the last 5 years has been deplorable. Get rid of everything single one of them and start fresh.

Either we just keep continually drafting/trading injury prone players or our injury management team are shit.

I’m open to both possibilities.

I don’t think it’s the WA oval surfaces, otherwise West Coast would have a similar injury list. They’re relatively healthy.

Most good players come straight back. Bennell is probably the only exception but his case was unique. It’s getting to the point that Hilly is now in the same boat and no matter how good he is, and how important he is to the team, he must come back via the WAFL.

There wasn’t too many finals series’ that McPharlin wasn’t injured.

That's right. He only played in one of those 4 years between 2012-2015, which was 2013, and he only just made it back for the qualify final down at Geelong to replace an injured MJ.

2 more years of yo yo with Shill - can’t see it happening. Depending on the severity of this one, maybe move to LTI?

Side note - is it too crazy an idea to pick up Sandi mid season if Darcy’s body keeps breaking down and Meek doesn’t come on as hoped?

And / or decent half back flankers with decent skills we can recruit mid season if hill is moved to LTI? (Or retirement is also possible one would think...)

**I know we have Young to come in

Sandi another injury prone player

Not sure it’s Ross fault, need to blame someone..

Hill has had a preseason to get fit... he was going to need to be able to play a full game at some point, why not now?

he has played 200 games and got thumped early in his career. Has been amazing for the club.

They must have known this was going to happen hence why brad left knowing this plus got a massive offer

In (beautiful) hindsight we should have let him go to the Suns, and we would have received an end of first or early second

2015 should have been the last straw for the S&C team. Cost us 1 or 2 flags in 2013/15 with mismanagement of senior players. But they've continued on their merry way and the club has done absolutely nothing about such an obvious problem. Was almost a certainty that Hill would re-injure a quad. Recurring injuries is our specialty. I'd put money on Acres doing another hamstring after he returns to the team.

Maybe we ALL should send seperate emails to the club to vent. It is shit and simply not good enough in an amateur environment, let alone a professional organisation.

I don’t see players at other clubs going down in practise games like us.

They just got to go

Are we really cursed any more that all the other teams?
I'm not so sure. Most have issues that linger and a few seem blessed. We have drafted a few broken nags so recruiting is to blame for the bulk of our issues. Steven is nearly at the end of a long career. Sad but true. But Bennel, Ape, Acres, Hogan (list goes on)...are recruiting mistakes made out of desperation.

Blind Freddy could have seen this coming. And quads are such an innocuous injury. Why have they not found a way through this..???
What really pissed me off was having Darcy running back out after hurting his ankle . It was pre season ffs

Something needs to give with S & C. We have an atrocious injury record year after year. All ***** has said a review took place but nothing has changed.

SHill should have been pulled earlier. The preseason has been bordering on disaster.

Jesse Hogan, Alex Pearce & Liam Henry were always going to have delayed starts. Mundy a freak accident. But we have seen Wilson, Switta, Hamling, Acres, Young & SHill all have issues during this preseason.

I don’t think changing the coaching and s&c at same time would have been wise, so perhaps that is next part at end of season.

JL from Collingwood and they also had a lot of injury issues.

surely, it’s AFL so we can expect to have some injured players at all times - every club goes through it.

in 2012 Lyon was shelving injured players and we saw we were strong at the end of the 12 and 13 seasons

14 onwards players kept playing through issues and we limped home each year.

If Harley plays for the Dees I will completely lose my shit
It ll happen. New perspectives, Victoria has greater medical advice etc. Bennell will play more games this season then he did for Freo in his career here.

We can’t keep persisting with Weber. Ffs it’s getting obvious and old. Clearly no idea how to rehabilitate players efficiently. Hill should’ve been managed on minutes restrictions and/or playing for Peel.

Dumb as dumb can be.
Calf issues with McPharlin, MJ, Sandi, Pav. I mean, clearly somethings not working or need retifycing. Clear that perhaps after 2016, with the clear out and obvious regeneration that the club should’ve act on behind the scenes. Didn’t take the chance.
