Overall, more positives than negatives and a lot to be hopeful for though I’m not sure we can cop too many more injuries. We have to play finals this year IMO.

It’s just so annoying that’s it’s once again ****ing Carlton. What an annoying run of bullshit

You just summed up why Treacy is frustrating and Jacksons game today to perfection, unfortunately. Jackson is escaping a lot of criticism, he was awful today, De Koning pantsed him

So many mistimed jumps and pointless taps. All his follow ups led to nothing and couldn't stick a mark. He's a different beast when he's on. Really waited for him or Serong to do something of impact in the 2nd half.

Yeah but can you change the thread title?

I got about half way through the third before I had to do something else.

  • I love the confidence in Draper but I sure hope the experience was worth it. I suppose there was probably some point I’m missing on Ryan needing to be more free but that hurt a bit. Nothing against Draper, that’s a big ask for 3rd game McPharlin to be on the best KPF in the comp, yet alone Draper.
  • I didn’t think Johnson was as bad as everyone said but was skimming through
  • Emmet is so much like Schultz it’s hilarious.
  • Clear game plan to not risk turnover whatsoever against Carlton. We were much more safe than the last few weeks and I’m happy to see game plan slightly tweaking each game
  • Pearce, Clark and Ryan continued AA pushes, just need someone up front to join them.
  • Speaking of, said it earlier but man we need some more up forward or need to be able to age Amiss and Treacy as fast as possible. I’ll honestly just about take any extra mature talent possible up forward this offseason

Close games and Carlton.... Never a good combination for dockers fans.

They did it to us in 2019 with that Mark Murphy goal. They did it again in 2020 with that fluke goal after the siren.

If you think watching it on tv was bad. I was at the game and that makes it worse. Copped it from lots of Carlton fans, mainly the young ones aged under 25.

Even the older Carlton fans aged 50 or over knew it was lucky Carlton won.

I seriously thought about leaving after that game.

I know people are gonna get upset at me. Yep I threw $20 at a Carlton win at $1.60.

Am I upset with the result ? Not really. Just gutted.

Carlton has this nasty habit of beating is at the end.

It's almost as bad as the cats winning streak over the hawks after the 2008 grand final loss.

Cats from 2009 until that 2013 preliminary final kept beating the hawks in close games.

If you think Richmond fans being arrogant after the 2017 grand final was bad, Carlton fans will be worse if they win a flag.

Just watching the last quarter again ( yes im a masochist), we really need Brayshaw as one of our leaders to improve his i.50 composure and delivery.

A couple of times in the 4th he didnt execute and missed targets by a long way.

For us to get better we need him to get better.

A couple of points:

*Just imagine if we could have played our home game rightfully at Optus. Playing in Adelaide clearly favoured Carlton supporters as just a short flight from Melbourne. Imagine the boost to the players from 50,000 Freo supporters.

*Also, it is important to remember that we had the second most inexperienced team and the fourth youngest. The pressure of the last quarter was telling, but will hopefully prepare them for the future.

It wasn’t our home game we still get the same amount of home games we got before “Gather round” was added. The only teams that get more “home” games are Port and Crows.

My biggest takeaway was players not backing themselves to have a shot on goal, Switta, Jackson and Frederick (the worst as he’d taken a mark and time to go back and take the shot) all looking to pass it instead of taking ownership.

That Frederick pass was inexcusable. He kicks from that range and angle often.

Think that pass to Walters was on but he kicked it into the man on the mark lol

I really didn’t think it was that bad decision. He’s about 50% chance from there whereas Sonny is like 80-90% chance from the pocket.

The only issue was the execution. Wasn’t even good defence from the Carlton guy, just a very lazy kick from Freddy. Good idea, atrocious execution.

Think with MJ he was unsighted most of the day.. then he had that shot on goal that barely registered a behind. Think it was a span of few minutes after he also made some errors..forgot what it was. Also his last few games were bit below par so maybe adding up in such a crucial point in the game

He’s within his range though, shouldn’t even be thinking of the dinky kick to Walters, take the 30sec let everyone behind the ball structure up and take the shot, he is one of our best set shot kicks from 40 out, back yourself.

All things considered we played the game on our terms most of the day and the clearance work was elite even with Jackson lowering his colours in the ruck. I thought our pressure was good too with numerous run down tackles and smothers which was our main score source in the match.

Key areas of improvement are our skill errors - general kicking efficiency (14 more turnovers) and our marking was really poor (dropped numerous uncontested marks and got whacked 16-6 in contested marks).

The turnovers and decision making in our forward half is still a concern and also the fact none of our mids hit the scoreboard either unlike the blues. I think we often lack composure and would kill for a player like a Gryan Miers who is elite at finding targets inside 50.

The other major one most have pointed out is our mental errors in the big moments. No doubt we’ve trained the different scenarios but some glaring mistakes were costly. These include not controlling the ball with kick mark late, letting the ball out in scrimmages, hit outs to dangerous areas, some poor positioning at stoppage and on their fwd 50 entries etc.

Think our outs in this game were huge too as the result is much different if we have Darcy rucking, Jackson predominantly forward and one of McDonald/Cox able to take Curnow (Draper battled but was shown up in the second half).

Plenty of upside though and some great individual games from Ryan, Clark, Sharp, Pearce and Young.

I will take alternate suggestions, I was too stunned to speak at that point
Deathly was joking, don’t worry about it, unless you think it could actually end the Ukraine war then maybe think about it then don’t do it out of spite

Haven’t seen the game, just started watching the last 2 minutes highlight or lowlights. I watched it up to Cottrells mark. Some moments there a couple of players would like back.

Without being too harsh, Treacy will not sleep well tonight & what the hell was Jackson doing with that tap just prior to the Cottrell mark? To hit into space is exactly what the team down by 2 points wants. Hit it at your feet & halve the stoppage for as long as possible.

Yeh umpires are assholes, but those errors don’t help.

Unfortunately those errors are always scrutinised the most & I’m sure there were far more positives than negatives out of the game, which I probably won’t watch because of the result.
Jackson’s tap was crazy. If anything, tap towards the boundary?
The midfield needed to learn today. Have to put the special stuff away and shut the door, stoppages and clearances wise. The best teams always do it.
Jackson wasn’t great today. Really really wish Jl just back a two man ruckman regardless of whether Jackson or Darcy is injured. One cannot do it. Today was a good chance to go after Carlton’s lack of second ruck and use Reidy. Cripps was rucking at times ffs.

I said this before, I was at the game.

I am not happy about bringing this up.

I have seen a few eagles fans at Adelaide oval.

Once Carlton got the lead and Carlton won the game, the eagles fans celebrated like they won the flag.

You know what? If the only joy is Seeing Freo lose, then all power to you.

I have no issues with eagles going 0 and 23.

Round 6 can't come soon enough

Watched the last qtr only. Watched the 3 previous games. The grinding Adelaide win sold it for me. We are back..yeah shit umpiring/Treacy dropped catch lost it today but lots of media pundits had us losing this. We should had won.

Bring on Port, then bring on the % booster week later. Potentially 4-2 after 6. You would take that before rd 1.
