Review Fremantle Contest Another Game In South Australia

Grinds me how everyone thinks the game plan we executed on these teams is not watchable or you can't win games from it. They expect us to open it up the game so they can play globetrotter style game to make it look exciting.

The team that imposes their game on the other wins. Close games can go either way
If we imposed our game plan on Carlton and port why did we still lose 😭 we need to be a bit more balanced and not be relying on holding onto a tiny lead for half a quarter. 2-3 goals not 2-3 points

Or play Reidy. Soldo isn’t effective after the ruck contest. He’s a lumbering awkward runner.
Dixon was coming into the ruck. I mean back to back teams using their number 1 tall forward as a ruck. Surely that’s evident
has Reidy made any impact in the WAFL? they won really well today at Peel, and was great to see Chapman named as one of the best

By the way, how good is Treacy's field kicking? His foot disposal is elite for a big guy.

Agreed. This thread is over focussed on the most recent game outcomes which is reasonable I guess. What is being lost is the big improvements we have made so far this season. Treacy is a standout, Clark, Pearce and Ryan outstanding again. Where we lack Polish is inside 50 for sure with our small forwards mostly. I love what Switta brings but really there were several opportunities he absolutely butchered going forward including the one in Q3 where has running straight at goal. Shortly thereafter Rioli gets a few clears seconds and drills the goal at the other end. The stark difference between those two moments really stood out. Banfield 2 OOF’s in Q4 also hurt an awful lot.

As you say need some class upfront that Sonny used to provide. Now defenders have worked out he is even slower they just play him from the front and his class counts for nothing as he can’t get the ball at all.
it was disappointing - a loss always is

supporters need to be realistic

Sort out the forward line and this team will be around at the pointy end.

Not sure I could go to another GF tho, still heartbroken by the last one (and annoyed the AFL couldn’t be bothered rostering umpires for the day…)

Personnel and composure. The game plan worked. These are two very high scoring teams and we completely stifled their ability to score. We have a bit more composure then we're 5-0.

Until the club prioritises goal kickers this will continue to happen.

Yeah this was pretty much it for me. Not just goal kickers but goal kicking.

We have the talent down back, the talent in the middle and finally some serious tall talent but we're carrying passengers up front who can't and don't even want to kick a goal. Said it last week you don't kick goals you let the other team in.

There is so much opportunity to build on this list and it can be incredibly good. Just need a few more of the right players in for the dead wood.

Anyway onto the positives, because I'm not fuming about this like the last game...

  • Platinum Ryan is on another level. Was huge today.
  • Pearce has been awesome this year. Dropped a couple he should've taken, but I feel very confident whenever he's in a 1v1 now
  • Treacy's marking arguably cost us a win last week so he came back and held onto everything. Massive game from him, and his goal kicking phenomenal.

We were trying to hang onto a lead less than a godly for over ten mins at the end. I just don't think that's sustainable no matter how well we stifle teams

We're not trying to hang onto a lead if we have more composure going forward, and if we have better personnel up forward. Freddy and Jackson in the forward line make a big difference. Every part of our game plan can stay the same as it is while simultaneously improving what we do in the forward 50.

I don’t enjoy our players running inside 50 and attempting 20m passes. Which contributes to our lack of scoring.

We’ve played some pretty good footy though despite my previous points in other posts.

This lockdown footy can’t be the final iteration of the plan though. It might be two fold. Missing Cox / Macdonald, but also our key forwards are very young, Treacy / Amiss / Jackson are in the infancy of their careers. Most top teams have mature key forwards.

If we can make top 8, acquire some players in the offseason, and progress the plan from lockdown to better scoring, I’ll be content.

Your first point is really it isn't it. You need a couple of players that are just going to say yep I'm kicking this goal. Like a sonny of the prior decade. Or even rioli for Port tonight. The talls we've wanted for so long are here but they can't just be it.

You guys were clearly the better side tonight & barring injuries, will be there in September.

Your defensive set up & clearance work is high quality, & you still have a host of good players sitting on the sidelines.

You’ve found one in Treacy, & Amiss will only get better from here.

The only problem is for most of our 30 years we have been trying to sort out our forward line.

Pearce must be all australian captain right now. What a start to the year he's had!

Ryan solid again and our back line could be the best in the competition at the moment. No cox and draper developing puts us in good stead.

Best game of Treacys career a real positive. Let's hope that is the start of something special. Still so young too.

Midfield is dominating and just need some more run on the outside. Do we keep JOM in the side with Fyfe playing the way he is.

I was hoping Jonno would take a step fwd this year but hasn't progressed from last year. Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later.

Raz is someone who i think needs to build into the game and sub is probably not ideal for him. Stanley or giving Simmo a crack may provide some ex factor.

I think we will be a lot better done when Chappy's in for hughes, Darcy for Tsbs and freddy back. I'm hoping that simmo can be that speedy classy goal kicking fwd we lack. Would be good for NOD, Stanley to come on to provide some pressure for spots with their pace and if Sturt was fit and firing could be the final piece in the puzzle for us to make a real push..

the ****ed up thing is if we held onto schultz for one more year we probably win the last two games. And if we are 5-0 we are suddenly talking top 4 by the end of the year and a genuine tilt at a flag. I know we will get good return for him and he did have his genuine personal reasons for wanting to go back to vic. But damn man if we couldn't find an experienced player to fill his role it might have not been the worst idea...

We are clearly a decent to good team but * the last two weeks hurt
Son Son has had no impact recently, but we need him to do something spectacular in the derby
Yes I agree
We definitely need to go to the draft and get the best small forward going around!
With 3 first round draft picks we should be able to get the best one.
We certainly are loaded this year.
Besides that I think we are playing a good brand of football.
Don’t be to dis heartened Freo friends we are looking very, very good this season.
Our fixtures for the next 3 rounds looks good.
