Tell you what, I find it particularly galling to watch JUH chopping up (and he always seems to look good against us).

Classic AFL situation of closing the door after the horse has bolted in favour of the Victorian team. The Dogs get to benefit from that horse bolting for the next decade while we miss out on Mitch Edwards this year.
****ing infuriating. And then they change the rules the next year. Meaning Dogs get the benefit and no one else after them do.

Also JUH seems to play so much better vs us than any other team. We don't have a good matchup for him. But going at 1.3 goals this year, 1.3 for his career. Amiss much better already. 2.1 this year, 1.9 his career.

Nothing changes.

They do enough to give us hope and then it’s taken away.

Rinse and repeat.

Not too much if a difference. Our lack if experience excuse is wearing very thin

It's actually a fairly significant difference if you're familiar with the normal variances between AFL teams each week.

We're the 2nd youngest and most inexperienced team of the round after Hawthorn, while Dogs are top 5.

Not TOO much. Only 20 games extra per man. Thats not massive is it? Maybe Im wrong?
Their midfield most experienced
  • Macare: 223 games
  • Treloar: 223
  • Libba: 209
  • Bont: 209

Our midfield most experienced
  • Fyfe: 218
  • JOM: 157
  • Brayshaw: 115
  • Serong: 73

218 vs 140 games experience. About 80 games different per player, 4 seasons. Huge. That's not even taking into account Erasmus and Johnson who played in there when we got completely destroyed. Or the fact that Fyfe spent stints in the forward line.

Pffft hasn’t stopped us beating them last year. Once again we’ve been outcoached while JL rests on his laurels and cuddles underperformers.

Libba wasn't playing last year, we wouldn't have won if he was. Mundy was. Lobb has over 100 on JT as ruck, Acres over 100 on Henry. Even Brodie had more games than Ras and Jonno combined. Big difference.

Carr leaving has been huge.

All of Schultz, Amiss and Frederick are on track to kick 30 this year...
We need amiss to be kicking 50 plus a season when he’s fully up and running.
We need another tall forward to kick 40. If Luke Jackson is playing as that second tall, he needs to be kicking 30 while adding his other attributes but then we need a third tall in the Treacy position to kick another 30-40 goals.
Then onto the smalls
  • we need one elite small forward capable of kicking 45 goals a season
  • we need another good finisher that can kick 30 plus as a genuine crumbing small
  • you have Schultz who does his work up the ground and chips in with 30
  • THEN, you can start adding your worker bee types like Switta that will chime in with 15-18 goals a season.

You can also add at least one midfielder that kicks a goal a game. We don’t have one. No team wins a flag without one.

On a per hand basis, we need to average about 13-14 goals a game or 300 goals a season. That’s to be a flag contender.

The biggest concern is replacing Walters long term. Schultz is not the answer and he plays a different role anyway.

The bottom line is we have just 2 players that I would trust to kick clutch goals in big games. Amiss and Walters.

We have 5-6 I don’t trust in a clutch moment
Schultz, Frederick, Switta, Treacy, Fyfe, jackson.

To be fair to jackson he’s shown great signs recently and had a down game today.
But when the likes of Schultz, Treacy, Fyfe were taking on key set shots today - you just KNEW they weren’t going to score them.

Overall though, what he have in attack as a collective, it’s simply not enough.
To add to the issue, we get very few goals from our mids or wingers.

Imagine plugging in someone like Charlie Cameron instead of Switta, or Bailey Fritsch instead of Treacy?
You are adding another 40 goals straight away to the team. That’s ultimately the difference.

just watched the highlights.

in the space of one minute, the maggots gave a s**t free against Ryan, Bontempelli a free for holding, then refused the free to Treacy for exactly the same thing.
3 goals in a minute to the bulldogs

that was the game.
Started from centre clearances. Erasmus got penalised.
Ryan’s leap was 50/50. Umpires today though were loving Bulldogs, so they paid it.

Why was Treacy rucking ? Jackson is the second ruck. He provides run and leap. Weird coaching that.
Rule should be only one of MJ and Erasmus in the middle. Both were there with Treacy. Was that intentional?

Lol you talk like you want the team to be made up of all Australian with hefty pay packet. Pretty sure all teams want this

Also having a good forward line like Carlton does on paper doesn't mean jack.

Think Sturt can be that guy.
Frederick doesn’t do enough damage for the player he can be.
Switkowski. He has played 51 games and only kicked 39 goals. That horrendous.

Did JL try to create a “coming of age moment” by putting JT, Ras and MJ in the centre at a critical time in the game? If he did then I guess that’s commendable. It was probably a courageous move and not an oversight. Obviously it didn’t work. If you’re gonna throw Ras and MJ in there then at least give them the benefit of having the best tap ruck in the league with them, and not an undersized part timer.
I actually thought JT was much better this week in the ruck around the ground, much better than his effort against GWS. At least he showed he can chop out in the ruck if we need to call on him in the future. That was a real positive from the game.
I agree with others about our lack of quality and class with our small forwards, that seems to be the area we need to address most with our list.

It was disastrous coaching in hindisight. I'm sure they will be talking about that a bit in review. Treacy in the ruck (Darcy stuck on the bench) and the young mids in and bang bang bang game over.

Lol Ryan's leap was not 50/50. He got his entire palm to that ball. Did not infringe on Lobb while doing it. There is no way you can argue that was unrealistic going by the book.
