I'm pretty happy with our depth atm, if any of those main players go down they can be replaced by R. Lyon ;)

But seriously, I think Lyon's coaching will help to cover those player if they're short term injuries. Without McPharlin we keep the AA CHF goalless, without Sandi we matched/beat two AA ruckman, without Pav we kicked our highest score of the year. Whilst the players who replaced those stars did their part, they were significantly aided by Ross' current game plan as well as his tweaks to the game plan. What remains to be seen is how we'll cope with a long term injury/retirement to those stars and if their prolonged absences will allow other teams to adapt to the tweaked game plan.

I don't think we're favourites are we ? but I will have a go at explaining our confidence for 2013.

Darling - Kennedy - Cox/Kerr - McKenzie - Glass = decent spine

Gameplan = decent

Depth = decent

Draw = Very Favourable Early on

Unknowns = Injuries

Our best is top 4 but barring injuries travel is the biggest concern at the latter half of the season.

You won't win the flag this year because your midfield is not big enough,no big bodied midfielders,no flag IMO.

Who's your tallest and heaviest mid,shoe box?

More back on topic what are the chances of the slime matching our coin within the salary cap for Mr L. Franklin.

Eagles supporters at work all think Glass, Cox, Embley retiring this year will mean lots of dosh. This is of course at the same time that these players plus Kerr all in their twighlight years will help them grab a flag. Nothing like having your cake and eating it to.

I think most West Coast fans would be disappointed to see them all leave. Embley maybe, but the rest of them should still be around next year. I think their ruck stocks are in trouble if Cox retires at the end of this year.

That's what I've been thinking. Eagles with buddy minus glass, cox, embley and Kerr won't be an improvement. Therefore I think they will struggle to get him, barring a bad year by that quartet on the injury front which would then free up cash. That would kill their chances so don't think they should really want him at this stage.

If we jag him, we might still have a year with our three AA guns + buddy due to cash. The only thing that worries me is that you'd think it would take time to gel with such a change to the forward line, could we get it done in time? Is there a team you can think of that recruited a gun key forward and won the flag the next year?

Interesting theory. When you say 'big bodied' do you mean tall as well as solid, or just tall? Because looking at Geebung in their hay day, yes they had tallish solid blokes in the guts like Corey and Ling, but their real guns were of course Gaz/Jimmy/Bunnings. Not sold on this one. *

*At the same time, I'm not saying that any of the Wiggles midfield plodders are a patch on Geebung's finest.

Both DN. Swans, kennedy and goodes to a lesser degree,cats had ling and Corey,.pies pendles.
Just so happens we've got four big mids fyfe,mundy,crowls and Barlow.

Mckenzie bahahahaha... What happens to your back line if Glass goes down? Brown comes in, every full forward in the AFL would be happy. No depth in that backline AT ALL.

Clarke - Pav - Sandi/Mundy - Macpharlin - Dawson matches "decent spine" any day of the week.

Our draw is very favourable going into the finals this year when it needs to be.

No need to respond Ninja, let round 1 do the talking. Eagles @1.65 favourites, we will gladly take the underdog status.

I'm definitely taking the $2.35 being offered for freo.IMO it will be 4-6gl win to us.

Their midfield and ability to work will provide a lot of cover down back should Glass go down.

TBH - I think Hurn is the lynch pin now down back.....to me matching it in the guts and work rate is the key.

McKenzie has his detractors yes, I'm no super fan of his but he is taking the best Forward these days and has done ok when going up against the big names. Glass will get the mismatch these days with his strength being top tier for a backman and brains to back it up. I'm pretty confident Brown, Sinclair, Colledge and McGovern could play the tall back position if one of the first goes down with injury.

The problem Freo will have in the next Derby will be with Grover and McPhee retired can your newly structured backline cope with our forwards in LeCras, Kennedy, Darling, Cox and Wellingham ?

He was instrumental in our win last season. Didn't get a possession kicked on him. I'd have given him the Glendinning but we know that is rigged. IN fact he didn't have a goal kicked on him all year, from memory.

Pitt goes to Darling - that's the only match up I'm certain of
I think by years end Darling will be getting 2 opponents, I rate him as our next Super Star and have gone on record as saying he will be our greatest ever Eagle. His uniqueness is that he is a medium height player who can mark, run and tackle with an ever growing trick bag and play tall as a hit up forward when needed.

Should be easy, won't be playing.

It's not so much who is in the back line for freo any more, rather the way the team approaches it. Besides that plodding midfield of yours won't even get the ball into their forward line against freo...unless they start chucking their heads back...oh sorry, when they start chucking their heads back.

Plodding ? yeah ok we have Ploddus in that category but he is a workhorse, Shuey, Masten and Selwood are hardly slow. The throwing of the head back works sadly and I don't like the look but it does give an advantage, however Ballantynes staging for free's fits this category as well.

Ballas doesn't stage for free kicks, he earns them with his niggling on opponents.

Totally different..Ballantyne baits a person into hitting him and this depends on the other person being an idiot. Whereas duckers manipulate a rule that results in a fair tackle being made head high. The tackler has the honest intentions of laying a fair tackle in the first place.

Actually with all the media currently around regarding brain damage from head high hits...your midfields' ability to clear the ball will probably start deteriorating this year. :eek:

No problem with the second ranked stingiest defense in the AFL.The midfield is where the game is won, and our midfield will put your midfield to the sword just like they did late last year....
