Mega Thread Freo say no to Buddy

I do not want him if he becomes the be all and end all for the side. There are plenty of BF posters (not exactly unbiased) who, somehow, can tell you what a champion he is and an equal number want to crucify him (single handedly lost the GF, every drug rumour).

If he stays, other loyal players get squeezed out under the cap.

We appear to have made a play for Mitch Clark, Travis Cloke and now Buddy (whether he wants to or not), so a KPF is on the list, Pav can't play forever, but we go from one main target to another.

Would prefer to spread the load. Although the game plan would be simplified, somewhat. Kick it long to Buddy!!! If he ended up at Freo, would like to see Richo like role.

Buddy just switched to Adidas from Nike as his boot sponsor.

Anyone here knows when our contract with ISC runs out?

SB, he did not single handedly lose us the gf any that say that were not there , i know you are not saying it, just what others say ,
i was there,
i saw lots of things that did not help us sadly it was a game that could go either way ,
bad kicking did not help by more then one player,
nor did the wind help any either ,
it was a weird wind it could help then it could also hinder ,
i was Q deck and saw that wind grab balls that were headed for goad and send them for a poster [ gunston copped one of those ] or a point

Now for my fill....

There were opinions about Cyril Rioli and Danyle pearce on here.

Rioli would be in Freos starting 18 if he joined freo. Rioli and Ballas would be in the foward pocket and Mayne and Walters in the flanks.

Anyone thinks that Danyle Pearce is Crap because he played in a crap team will be sadly mistaken. If he was playing in a team with hardened bodies like the Saints, Hawks, Cats or Magpies, he would be a damaging player. Danyle Pearce and Hill on the wings at subi would be awesome. Im happy rotating another running winger as well from the bench.

Expect Danyle Pearce to play a minimum of 12 good games all at Subiaco. 13 if Freo get a home final.

Now for my opnion on Mr Buddy Franklin....

As Kerry Packer Said: "Im sure there is a Little of of the whore inside of us"

It means that money might be the big factor bringing him here.

Another interesting thing i will mention is this, Freo have had an interesting history of bringing in Certain players back Home after stints interstate.

Peter Bell, Jeff Farmer, Josh Carr, Des Headland, Troy Cook, Luke McPharlin to name a few. The only difference is that Freo paid over the odds to get these guys to Freo.

Im in the minority here. I dont want him. Its a High risk, High reward just like the previous players mentioned above. It would be worth it if he signs a 6 year deal and Freo play in a 60-70,000 seat stadium by 2017/8.

Carlton did Sign Judd on 1.2 million a year for 5 years back in 2007.

Still I reckon Freo are going to try to stuff up the hawks one way or another. My Gut feeling is if Freo dont get Buddy, Freo will go after Roughead from the hawks.

Roughead is contracted until the end of 2015. As for trying to match the Dockers offer of 1.5 million, we will have room in the cap when some of our senior players retire this year & next year. People go on by saying we have no room in the cap, but they fail to understand that we will a lot of players retiring soon. We have Burgoyne who is on about 600,000-650,000 a season, he signed a 4 year deal at the end of 2009 which expires this year. He would be in our top 5 highest paid players. Also Mitchell, Guerra, Hodge, Osborne, Lake could all retire this year, freeing up more cap space. It's not like we can't match the offer.

We traded #34 for cookie. Bargain.

Yep and and Honest Player too. We got hime cheaply despite him playing 3 seasons with the swans from 1997-1999. Freo traded picks 1, 20 and 36 for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin. Looking back at it its not terribly bad. McPharlin is the Key Defender the hawks desperately need for the Fla and the sad thing is they wont get him.

Mate - I hope you keep him. Star players like that should show the club that has done so much for them some loyalty, like captain Pav!

Just a few questions...

1. Do you rate Burgoyne in your team? and are you willing to get rid of him to secure Franklin?

2. Do you Even think Mitchell and Hodge would actually retire this year? Guerra Might. Osborne does have at least 2 seasons left after 2013. Hes a Queenslander, Lions or Suns could get him cheaply.

Mitchell and Hodge have said recently that they both want to play on next year. You know that they will both play next year. Osborne is a crab and if you are paying him a half decent salary then I would be surprised. Lake is on a two year contract. Burgoyne will likely play on next year but on a reduced salary.

Buddy will likely stay but it won't be because Hawthorn matched Freo's offer (if we do in fact make one).

Nah, it's tighter than that.
If Hawthorn lost all those players the same year , your list manager should be shot.
You just got lake or whatever he's called now, Mitchell and Hodge are nowhere near the end.

nearly fell off my seat reading that post about hodge and co somehow i think someone was asleep posting that , i am with your post Lake we just got Ossie will be on a yr by yr contract till he goes they delisted him so they could get a player in the draft this yr if any wanted him cheap he would have been snapped up then before we got him back Mitch will stay for a little longer as will Hodge for how ever long when he goes he will retire and turn to coaching i reckon and i would help shoot the list manager if all those left this year [so to speak]

Somewhat fixed so everyone doesn't have to struggle their way through it.

They could plan for Mitchell, Burgoyne and Hodge's retirements by back-ending a new contract for Franklin. But there would still be uncertainty over when those players would actually retire and how to structure Buddy's contract. Plus, if they do retire then it will leave a big hole in the Hawks and Franklin might be stuck in a team out of contention for a premiership. The same thing could be said about Freo once McPharlin, Pav and Sandi retire.

I can't fathom how Hawthorn could possibly match Freo's offer (ignoring endorsements and off-field earnings). Franklin might indeed stay at Hawthorn, but it wouldn't be because the Hawks could offer the same official AFL salary as us.

Buddy will likely stay but it won't be because Hawthorn matched Freo's offer (if we do in fact make one).

How the system works, if we make an offer Buddy will only stay if the Hawks match it. An offer only gets put if Buddy accepts it, and agrees to the contract if is not matched. I realise that you are quite likely not talking about an official FA offer.

would have thought as much as someone might offer him $$$ or any player that if they don't want to go they don't have too their choice as it is fa after all not a draft

It wasn't even the forward line that was the issue for me anyway, our inability to actually get the ball forward with any conviction was the problem.
Agree, against the eagles it was not the forwards, but the midfield that was the issue. Hannath as ruck and our very young players in the middle. No Sandi, Mundy, Fyfe, Crowley etc. I think Barlow sat out the second game as well. Just not enough quality. Forwards can't do much when the midfield is struggling.

Really, I would take nothing out of that game except the match fitness for our guys.

Yeah, I don't think we played badly in the 2nd game. The Weagles were just a little bit slicker through the middle. And our midfield wasn't even remotely similar to what we'll have in round 1.

Haven't seen the replay but it sounds like we couldn't get out of the backline through their press. This is the same press our top line midfield penetrated quite well last season. Doubt Hurn will be given the same freedom in the match proper either.
