Imagine having Archer, Harvey, Scott and Stevens all running around out there. Pretty cool. Hope River keeps up the impressive work!
Bit of a stretch including Scott. Harvey is top 5 all time at NM, Archer and Stevo probably top 20 (at worst) all things considered. Scott isn’t a legendary NM name.

I wouldn’t say he is a manic contested player like his old man was, but I’ve never seen him take a backwards step in the small sample size of games I’ve seen him play. Does his best work in space though, really neat kick and a good decision maker.
****. Can he play for us next week?

Any update? Doesn't seem to have made Vic Country's squad v The Young Guns (whatever they are)

They haven't released the vic country squad yet

Not for the champs aye.

He didn't make this, but then I know players on scholarships often have school footy committments that mean they miss some games.

Certainly been playing well there though (school footy)

That's disappointing, I think he would have played on Emilio Estevev. Would have been able to learn a thing or two about being in the shadow of a more famous father.

I wouldn't take too much notice of the VC Squad that got picked for those games. Missing most of VC's top tier. I'm pretty confident he'll get picked for VC once the squad is announced.

He played on Saturday for Geelong College. But they got smashed by 115 points by Brighton Grammar. On the APS website they haven't got the bests or goal kickers for that particular game.

River has been named in the Vic County U18 Champs squad

View attachment 2010177

B: Ough, M.Whitlock, Jacques
HB: Travaglia, Mraz, Charleson
C: Duursma, Langford, O'Sullivan
HF: Hynes, Faull, Day-Wicks
F: Berry, J. Whitlock, Stevens
Foll: Penry, Lindsay, Warbuton
Int: Barrat, Hannaford, Ivisic, Lloyd

Depth: Alger, Burmeister, Hibbins-Hargreaves, Andrew, Onley, Paul, Rongdit, Unwin.

Mraz probably doesn't play early in the piece because of his injury, in which case I'd have Andrew take his spot.

Back in my day the stingray boys from dandy, noble park etc were Vic metro and the peninsula kids were vic country.

Tell why a kid from noble park should be expected to play for vic country?

The last time Noble Park would have been regarded as vic country is when the market gardens were cleared for housing in the 1960s. Certainly, when the Covid lockdowns occurred, Noble Park was metro and not country. I see that Dandenong Stingrays are also drawing from Berwick, Mornington, and Mt Martha, all of which were metro for the purpose of lockdowns and are very urban these days, even though they were quite rural 40 years ago.

I had to fake my address to play for the stingrays. Living near Waverley gardens shopping centre it was either 15 minutes to dandy or 45 minutes to Sandringham where I was actually zoned.

Not even oakleigh chargers which would have been acceptable. ****ing Sandringham.

I was thinking about the old Wavo cinemas the other day and their $2 tickets.

There are some weird ones in that list above. Two kids from Koroit with one playing for GWV and the other playing for Dandenong. Also, the kid from Warragul is surely driving through Dandenong to get to Oakleigh (and Gippsland would be closer than either).

Because the AFL likes to keep the balance between Metro and Country from a carnival perspective.

No doubt the suburban parts of the Rays zone are Metro kids, however for the sake of the carnival they rezoned them as Metro was starting to win everything and they were the one u/18 side that had a distinct split in talent pool between rep zones.

It changed around Tom Scully's era, as Scully played for Metro, but would have been Country after the re-zone.

You are also getting way too hung up on the name, they don't really train in Dandenong at all and most of their heartland isn't from that area.

The old VFA days are long gone. Noble and Dandenong are not football heartlands anymore. They would be more Soccer regions these days with the high proportion of 1st generation immigrants there at the moment.

They would probably be Frankston or The Penninsula or the South Eastern Stingrays under a rebrand.

TBH, I've always been of the opinion that the Knox boundary should be extended down to Rowville, Berwick, Noble, Narre etc as part of the Eastern Ranges.

Kids from Rowville playing with kids from Sorrento or Rye has always seemed strange to me.

There was probably scope to introduce rezone the Stingrays (Probably best to be based in Berwick vs Dandenong) to the area which encapsulated that Eastern Area between the Penninsula and the Ranges Zone, maybe extending the zone into Ranges territory taking Knox etc with the new side being Frankston based which had the current Penninsula/Bayside zone south of Mordialloc, but probably adjust the zone boundaries into the dominant Sandringham Dragons zone, up to say Hampton, with the new Frankston side getting Beaumaris, Mentone, Parkdale - Which is one of the strongest regions in the country for private school kids and would help even the u18 comp out.

This doesn't help the Metro vs Country inbalance though.

They needed to change the zoning because vic metro were unbeatable because of a team that’s never won the comp?

Fair enough.

Re training, I trained 3 nights a week at sheeply oval in the heart of dandy when I was a ray.
