They needed to change the zoning because vic metro were unbeatable because of a team that’s never won the comp?

Fair enough.

Re training, I trained 3 nights a week at sheeply oval in the heart of dandy when I was a ray.

I don't understand your first line.

Metro won 12 of 16 carnivals in the beginning of the AFL era to the mid 00's.

The rezone was in favour of Country to strengthen it and to weaken Metro, not the other way around. Especially when factoring the Melbourne metro population growth vs the Country talent pool.

I understand that is where the Rays were traditionally, not really representative of them currently.

The bulk of their strength comes from Bayside(MPNFL)/Peninsula and the Berwick/Rowville regions now.

Noble and Dandenong are well past being football strongholds these days.

Given some of the current u/18 sides and zones were planned and built around VFA-esque talent zones almost 40 years. You could argue the entire zone structure and makeup of the comp in terms of teams is well overdue.

It's similar to Pakenham and the Officer housing estates being Gippsland Power.

These housing regions didn't even exist when the original zones were drawn.

A kid from a housing estate in Officer being zoned with a kid from Meetung is equally weird and needs looking at.

There are some weird ones in that list above. Two kids from Koroit with one playing for GWV and the other playing for Dandenong. Also, the kid from Warragul is surely driving through Dandenong to get to Oakleigh (and Gippsland would be closer than either).

Re the Koroit boys. O'Sullivan got scholarship at Xavier that's why he plays at Oakleigh. He represents Vic Country still because that's who he represented in the Un16's

I had to fake my address to play for the stingrays. Living near Waverley gardens shopping centre it was either 15 minutes to dandy or 45 minutes to Sandringham where I was actually zoned.

Not even oakleigh chargers which would have been acceptable. ****ing Sandringham.

I was thinking about the old Wavo cinemas the other day and their $2 tickets.
Good to see some fans from the good side of town

Where does Stevens fit between our last FS recruits talent wise ranging from?

Harvey> Scott > Mc Donald > Archer

Man our luck is so shit 😭

Probably up there with Scott. If he has a good championships he could get a bid inside the top 50 or so picks.

Everyone who I’ve spoken to has been super impressed with his school footy form as a goal kicking midfielder.

Any updates on the below for next year or 2?

Kayde Pickett (2025)
Owen Simpson (2025)
Archer Grant (2025) - rf08 mentioned underager at sandy this year
Kai Schwass (2025)
Lucas McCartney (2025) - with Jason up in Sydney he would be too but is he playing anywhere there?
Will Crocker (2025)
Sam harris (2025 or 26?)

Sam plays for the Calder Cannons

Makes me think

Josh Kelly
Jack Buckley
Nick Blakey
Josh Kelly is bad luck.

Nick Blakey is sheer corruption and a lack of buy in from the family itself. See Ashcroft or Bailey Scott of whom could easily have engineered staying in their home state.

Buckley is a typical north f'up. We happily list VAFA level guys via the nepotism angle and ignore the bloke who would've actually been a worthwhile project player.

That Jack is a far bigger asset as a player than his dad was as a president speaks of many things.

Adam Cooney ( Geelong College Coach) was just talking about River Stevens. Said he is an elite kick and is as tough as nails. Will be picked up.

I've only seen 2 minutes of highlights, but he looked slick to me.

Certainly selection for the nat champs is a step Cooper and Jacko didn't take, so if that's any guide we'll be activating the F/S pathway

Cooper was selected for metro in their champs winning team
