And we'll only get half of them for various reasons ...

Nah
Rocca - Collingwood
Blakey - Brisbane or Sydney Academy zone
Longmire - Sydney Academy zone.

The rest I don't think any other club has any claims.

They could all not opt to come to us.

They could all be rubbish.

I expected to be told off so thanks already. :p

I'd be bloody gutted if Longmire was snapped up in particular. The only claim Sydney should have is the regret that they gave his old man to us for peanuts.

Collingwood have claims is all.

Played over 100 games there so his son/s qualify for F/S selection at both clubs.

Yeah Sav just got the 100 mark for us....*phew*.

Didn't he finish at North on good terms and with more friends at the club than when he left Collingwood?

I believe so. I recall a post from Tef saying his boy/s followed North.

If they're any good I expect Collingwood to be in their ears.

How old are the Longmire and Blakey boys? If their fathers are still involved in the coaching staff at Sydney by the time they're eligible their fathers might prefer that they play at North to avoid any conflict of interest or nepotism accusations.
There are precedents, look at the McDonald situation last year here or in the A-League at Perth Glory last season, their coach Alastair Edwards was ran otu of the club because it appeared he was favouring his son. The Blakeys and Longmires might want to avoid those type of situations.

Do the new rules mean anything for us?
Sure will.

Depends on the quality of the players though. If they are likely to be in the top handful of their draft year the greater the price we pay.

Like we did with Luke anyway?
Greater in all likelihood.

Not only do you still end up using your 1st round pick, but depending on where the bid is in the draft order it ends up affecting what picks you have later in the draft, and even potentially in the following draft.

Oh god...

Oh god...
Its basically to prevent stuff like Sydney getting a top two ranked player (Isaac Heaney) for pick 18 because of he was part of the academy. It means that clubs will pay a fairer price all round.

Do the new rules mean anything for us?

They certainly do. To have any chance of understanding them you will need an ATAR of 99.95 and then complete a 5 year Masters degree at a University to be located, which may or may not understand them anyway.

Above is the chart giving the equivilent pick when factoring in the 15% discount which is given for Father Sons

My fairly basic understanding using Luke as an example

West Coast bid pick 6 and we used pick 7 under the above we would not have needed anythign additional to secure Luke.

Had Luke been this draft year and pick 6 was again bid on him, pick 16 alone would not have equalled the bid, we would have had to give up an additional pick to make up the shortfall.

I am not sure, this may have kicked us out of the second roundof the draft, as I am unsure that a bid of a first and third round pick would be allowed. Reckon that it'd probably have to be the next live pick.

I actually like the new system I just think the valuation of picks in the points system is all wrong. The AFL website says that its based off player salaries from 2000 onwards. I think its common sense that pick number 1 isn't worth double that of pick number 4.

The other major problem I have is that the academy discount is 25% and the F/S discount only 15%. Why is that the case?
