Imagine getting zero father-sons from our 90's players. Zero. Pickett's boys will be snatched up by the port academy. Scott brisbane or geelong. Blakey sydney. Who wants archer's boy, crocker, and rock?

I look back at the gifts geelong got and where they got them and then think about spargo, brayshaws, kelly. If you win a premiership at a club, play 300 games, and go down as a club great but choose a franchise instead, well i don't even know what to say...

Every time i open this thread i expect the worst, which is bullshit. They are our sons dammit!

Western Bulldogs: Hey Gil we want to nominate Cooper Harvey because we thought about recruiting Boomer when the Roos dumped him.

Hey well did mrs harvey say that cooper and the younger boy wanted bulldog memberships after they won the flag?
My mail is at this point Cooper is going to struggle to make the grade.
That's a real shame. Private tutoring from boomer, advice on diet/exercise etc. from a young age. It's crazy how that sort of environment wouldn't put him in with a real shot.

A mate of mine has seen him play a couple of times and claimed he didn't really stand out.

Wasn't poor, but wasn't anything special either. He was named 5th & 6th best in the under 13 finals. Didn't get a BOG all year.

It's still early. There's plenty of time.

The under 14 combine side this year will set his mark.

All the outside advantages in the world don't matter if there is a genetic shortfall.

I hope he takes some strides forward this year.

2nd in the league BnF.

Might just be name, but he'd have to have polled consistently to get that.

Kid has time on his side.

Extreme example but GAJ wasn't rated through the roof even in his draft year. Long way to go not that you had written him off.

Yep and conversely plenty of teenagers who dominated underage comps get found out pretty quick at the highest level.

Not sure we should be spending much time analysing the form line of 14 year olds, irrespective of who their father is.

Scott actually.

So underrated on this board, kids a AFL academy member and played for the Allies (Bloody strong team these days) underage.

He's a genuine top 25 prospect in a very strong draft.

The kid moves like a footballer and can find it - good ball user , great turning circle

Just been killing some time during the hot weather and mulled over your draft possibilities this year.

You potentially have Blakey & Thomas as top 10 prospects, Scott as a top 25 prospect & Crocker further out. If all the F/S nominate you and you finish low on the ladder such that your first pick is before Blakey or Thomas gets selected by another team, how do you handle it?

Do you take one of the big guns with your first pick leaving you with only enough 2018 points for one of three tied to you? Do you burn most of your 2019 points and take the lot this year and just give the 2019 ND a miss?

Or when your first pick comes up do you ignore one of the guns available and select the highest rated of Blakey/Thomas thereby preserving 2019 picks/points?

Interesting but nice dilemma

Blakey ain’t picking us, so it’s not worth discussing.

No dilemma, we take everything now including Rankine and win the 2021 flag.

The "worst case" scenario of Thomas, Blakey and Scott all requring top-10 bids would mean the following:

- 2019 first round pick completely dissapears.
- 2019 second round pick would have to be traded forward.
- We'd need an additional 2018 second rounder (three in total).
- We'd need seven list vacancies.
- We couldn't match a bid on Crocker before the third round.

So in 2018 we'd have whoever we draft with our own pick, Thomas, Blakey, Scott and Crocker (assuming his bid comes late) as well as two additional picks taken towards the very end of the draft.

The 2019 draft would then be a complete write-off.

I don't know where that extra second round pick would come from, but the above still seems like a huge win for the club in the unlikely event that Blakey chooses us.

We'll take one of Rankine/Walsh/Hill.
Blakey goes to Swans.
Thomas bid will come late first round and we'll use 2nd round plus discount for that.
Scott is picked up with our two third round picks.
Crocker will probably go fourth round.
No deficit.

Part of whoever we needed to trade out to get the 7 vacant spots required to make it work.

Bandits in the night if it happens this way.

Plus we will need our 2019 first rounder for Kelly

I hope our decisions in drafting potential f/s are not influenced on whether or not we need to keep a first round pick for Kelly, if he even intends on coming to the club.

If all f/s nominate us we should make it happen as I believe we won’t even need a 26-27 old Kelly on our list.

He had his chance. I believe the club won’t even need him come 2020!!
