Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

Instrumental in some of the changes? Say that again?

The group that challenged was a basket case. They were laughed off as they should have been. Pretty sure their mission statement was written in crayon.

Some of their suggestions were taken on board. One of them may have been Neil Balme role at the club.

Didn’t they pen a letter and say the results weren’t what they expected?

If they went really hard then Bevo’s position would be untenable. In the boards mind they still think his the right guy.
And this here is our problem. We have one ‘football’ expert on the board, he has a son who plays and is not only mates with the coach, he suggested him for the job in the first place. And there is a 3rd conflict of interest he is very good mates with the footy manager too. This is not a healthy board set up, it reeks of nepotism and doesn’t/can’t communicate with its people.

That is why we did a thorough "review"

For those concerned about us bringing in mates of Bevos, assuming this isn't satire, I think we've got to give the club more credit than that, even if we disagree with them getting rid of Rohan Smith, or how they did it, the fact that they did it suggests they're wanting a little bit more control over the situation.

Darcy is one of like 8 board members though. He isn’t the primary decision maker. If there is incompetence at board level it’s on all of them not just Darcy. Ex player or not I don’t believe he should be singled out.

I’m also not following what you suggest we do? Darcy vacates his role on the board to avoid a perceived conflict? And you bring in another 3 footy guys? Or you bring in 2 additional to darcy?

Literally any ex bulldog footy person capable of the job is going to have a relationship with Grant because his been there for the last 35 years. So there is always going to be a level of conflict as long as he has the job.

I also don’t have a problem with him having a son that plays for the club. Penrith and broncos both managed father son player coach relationships in the nrl. Board member is far more distant than that.

The important part now is recruiting quality that isn't an ex-Dogs player, has never been involved with St Bede's and wasn't at Hawthorn during Bevo's days there. I'm absolutely happy if we decide to give Clay Smith a development role (which has looked reasonably likely all year) but we can't be losing Smith and replacing him with more Webbs and Spanghers. Do it right and I'll be glad to give credit where it's due

I don’t have a problem with him having a son it is one conflict. But the problem is there are many and deeper than just his son. You are right there are 8 on the board, but their expertise is in other areas, they all bring something to the table. But we are fundamentally a football club and only have 1 football expert, and he has some proper conflicts of interest. Many football clubs have multiple football experts on their boards. Peter Gordon, although never having played at the highest level knew football pretty well, so you don’t have to have played. We lost a lot when we lost him. But there are also many there that will say we don’t know about football decisions and leave that to Luke. Which is too much for one man and one man with a conflict.

Steven King heading back to Geelong as an assistant.
King and Rahilly (assistant of the year) recruited at the same time, when Scott is already very highly paid, and they already have Lappin.

There is genuinely zero excuse for us keeping a coaching panel next year even remotely similar to what we had in 2023, no matter how much Bevo is being paid.

Geography is a fairly big reason I would've thought.

King back to Cats, eh?

So Montgomery is coming back to work with Bevo?

Who was the poster with all the Shakespearean Iago references to Monty back when Hunter's Mum was working at Barkers? We've got our own tragedy playing out before our eyes.

So Montgomery is coming back to work with Bevo?
PRAISE THE LORD and to be honest if Monty comes back to the Dogs
I think he would 1.01 to be the next coach at the Bulldogs and Monty was seen at looking at purchasing a house in the new hipster capital of Melbourne Tottenham :)

Didn’t Monty have issues with Bevo lol?
Yes. So much so that he departed as as assistant at round 20 of the 2016 season. It's almost unheard of that a coach actually leaves the club at such a crucial stage of the season in genuine finals contention.

Essentially we won the flag with one senior assistant down. That would've given Bevo an almighty ego boost.

Not sure if he did, but I reakon he will if he's not listened to. I'd be surprised if he comes back unless it's under some sneaky transition to senior coach in the next few years deal.

Just hear Barlow is heading to Norf. Another one bites the dust.
Any chance we can announce something?

I don't understand waiting till after the B&F. It's not like the people who have left the club don't know about it. All we would be doing is welcoming new coaches into the fold.
