you don't seem to understand how marketing and sponsorship work. I agree they are make awful cars now, but that's not really the point of their agreement. They are trying to build a brand and will get better over time, just like Kia did. They made xcels when starting with Carlton.

This sounds like a great deal for the Saints and it would be nice if we managed to get another big sponsor prepared to tip in funds over the long term as Mission have for us.

no argument about them being cheap and crap, but anyone who says a 1997 Hyundai Excel is a quality vehicle with refined safety has never driven one. They got better over the last 30 years (all the while sponsoring carlton during this time) and Chery will most likely also.

My point is Saints aren't in a position to knock back a major sponsor (neither are we) because of embarrassment and most likely couldn't care less what they car buying public think. Its a win for them to pick up a major sponsor with deep pockets. People can then make their own decision on whether they want to buy that car, or eat that burrito wrap or whatever.

There are plenty of major sponsors who make awful products or have terrible corporate ethics. Sports clubs can't be that selective.

Nah I totally understand the point of sponsors - if the local sewage plant came along and offered us a better deal than what we get from Pedigree, I’m sure we’d be happy to bring them on as a major sponsor. Just embarrassing having the logo of such a terrible company on your jumper, considering how little Chery seems to care for their customers given the lack of quality and safety rating
