Rather keep Spangher than promote Edge. Why would you promote a vfl coach who basically just follows the exact same game plan that is outdated and no longer works?

I thought our forward line was embarrassing this year. Granted that has to do with our broader game plan of rolling hff up to stoppages to win at the source. Just don't get why with the talent we have in there we wouldn't go head to head and create a more functional forward line without being outnumbered all the time. Maybe I should have a crack at assistant coach it seems noone else wants it

I don’t think Edge deploys a different system at VFL level at all, that would be crazy for a club to not be completely aligned from VFL to AFL

The difference is that you have more freedom at VFL level, we know that our system thrives under no pressure, we’ve seen us beat non-competitive teams by 100+ points more than any other side over the past 3 years.

The problem is our system breaks down completely under any pressure whatsoever.

Bevo system: barely any goals and leaks goals
Edge system: A lot of goals and no oppo goals

I do like the appoint but honestly who expects the line coaches to have much autonomy under Bev?

Hale seems like he’s be a good get too but I’m much more concerned with finding a coaching director that can be senior to Bevo and slap some common sense in when needed. To not have this position filled previously is bizarre and can’t be healthy for our setup. Need to splash out big bucks if that’s what it takes. Dictator Bevo surrounded by minimum chips coaches has been a disaster.

Part of one of the worst football teams in the last 50 years.

I usually try to keep it nice, but just shut the **** up about this one aye.

Plenty of people have pointed out he was there during their flag year and Eagles defence has been rated as one of the best systems for years, they are just in rebuild mode now.

Using your logic would say teams shouldn’t go anywhere near Barrass, Allen, Kelly etc, which is just damned stupid.

We don’t focus on sweeper tactics at all. We have an overly aggressive high zone defence that encourages playing your man in front. The complete opposite of sweeper.

The eagles defensive zone was similar however far tighter than ours. Will be interesting if Pratt has any creative freedom.

I feel like our defence has never been good under Smith though to be honest, it’s always just been acceptable or outright terrible. And it’s just time for a change after the last two years, it was that abhorrently bad a change had to be made

Weagles defence was brilliant at their best, and their flag was almost built on the back of it - so it’s a little different IMO

If it's decided that a flag winning line coach's time is up, it'd be silly to limit yourself only to line coaches who have only been unsuccessful.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with Korn on this but the club is wasting a talented list right now.

I'd have moved on from Beveridge as well but so many of the criticisms being leveled at him and the front office are purely speculative. Literally none of this is well evidenced - neither your account of the current situation nor the alternative universe scenario you've given are actually known, but they're being used to criticise the board's decision.
