He was already development manager?Jamie Maddocks promoted to Head of Development
Yep correctHe was already development manager?
Huge credit to the ladJamie Maddocks promoted to Head of Development
Development coach is what the title suggests in a way. You’re developing your coaching skills. Generally they’re aligned to a specific line coach as an understudy type operation and will work with players on more rudimentary things like specific positioning in a contest, where as the line coach will teach system and process related to the game specifically as well as some of the above. What is entailed in Head of Development? How does it differ from Geary’s role which I read was Development Coach?
When all the coaching cards are on the table I’d like to understand who is actually doing what, regardless of their new fangled titles.
Thanks. So a Development Coach is more about being developed as a coach while Head of Development is an autonomous role which is all about developing the players as rounded footballers?Development coach is what the title suggests in a way. Maddocks in a head of development role is more so operating as a developer of our players in general, both off and on the field. Identifying weakness and strengths and building upon them, developing them as people off field, supporting them with resources required to get the very most out of them.
Hope that explanation helps a little. Club land does very poorly at explaining their actual positions.

So they've just changed his title?Yep correct
Yeah pretty much mateThanks. So a Development Coach is more about being developed as a coach while Head of Development is an autonomous role which is all about developing the players as rounded footballers?
Is that a fair interpretation?
Not 100% sure. Comes with more responsibility I assume. So they've just changed his title?
Every role I see I kind of assume they've identified something Bevo is doing outside the remit of 'Head Coach' and are diluting the responsibilities he's built up over the years out of necessity. Perhaps this role formally shifts some responsibilities Bevo has had to Maddocks? Or perhaps I'm just making assumptions with no basis in reality IDKNot 100% sure. Very accurate observation. They were not as fatigued from pushing back hard om defensive transition and their leads were from the goal square into space on better angles.Another unscientific (and therefore totally boomer ) view, but I suspect blokes like Lockett, Dunstull, Lloyd etc. etc. were very much limited to leads from the goal square and the odd chase.
Your "modern" forward, especially a lighter frame like JUH would cover a lot more distance and have many more repeat sprints.
Fatigue plays a huge part.
(Even more-so for our guys who do more than average pressing. The difference between both Astro and JUH 's conversations inside/outside 35 is stark.)
Matty Egan is a big get folks a lot of high praise as a coach same with Pratt
Hearing we’re after Ben Dixon as specialist forward coach too in a part time capacity which he’s highly rated
Yes and no. I was directly behind Aaron Naughton at Marvel Thursday night round 3 against the Lions. His two kicks at goal were horrendous, must have been ball drop or lack of concentration but could not use fatigue as an excuse there. My wife was off him, but he worked hard that night and helped win us the game so my respect for him grew. But could do with some correction of technique and mental discipline tools as well. The modern players run more but are 100% professional now and get to train accordingly.Very accurate observation. Comparing them to a modern forward and goal kicking is comparing an apple to an orange

I think this is a pretty fair assumption. Get the feeling Bevo has had way too much on his plate the last couple of years which would partly explain why he’s looked so worn outEvery role I see I kind of assume they've identified something Bevo is doing outside the remit of 'Head Coach' and are diluting the responsibilities he's built up over the years out of necessity. Has there been any suggestion that someone else will match day coach - or just random speculation?
Could be a good omen. We won a flag just 36 years later. That first win in the Woman's league reminded me of 1980.Round 11 .
Hope that isn't a sign of something terribly amiss.Men losing to 3rd bottom and bottom to miss finals as well.
Took Shane O'Sullivan in 1983 ' to sort it out back then.
How Naughton’s ball-drop and general kick at goal preparation has not been improved is an indictment on the club. He nearly always misses to the left and you can pick a miss before his boot strikes the ball.Yes and no. I was directly behind Aaron Naughton at Marvel Thursday night round 3 against the Lions. To be fair Bevo has made some good strategic plays over the years. But I do worry he is too stubborn for match day coaching sometimes.Speculation as Bevo is no good at it.
I'm hearing Ben Dixon will be joining as goal kicking coach

Rather the now.And have a review into why we are slipping behind other teams.Could be a good omen. We won a flag just 36 years later.
Lock us in for the 2059 AFLW flag (and pour a celebratory beer over my grave when it happens please).
There’s something in that - The great Peter Hudson used to kick flat punts which are almost like a torp… he never missed. Maybe players need to start looking at different kicks rather than the drop punt… they have already started this with the side stance kick which is more accurate than the drop punt… why not a tumbling punt end over end spinning forwards… I don’t reckon you’d spray a kick that spins that wayI’ve been watching a lot of old classic VFL and VFA footage recently and they just went back and went bang! So much better at kicking for goal then. No theatrics after the goal also.
