Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

For those interested, here is how we stacked up against the rest in various KPIs both before and after the 2021 GF, not surprisingly the most significant dropoff has been ball use forward of centre...

And here is the dropoff over the last two weeks, obviously a smaller sample size but the dropoffs are significant across the board but in particular handball efficiency which is something we have always prided ourselves on in the Bevo year is now non-existent.

He’s revered by all of us who grew up watching him. That doesn’t mean anything to the current players who never saw him play or what he meant to the club.

He’s just another guy who isn’t qualified for the job he’s in.
One thing I’ve always liked about our club is that we don’t revere our club champions in the way other clubs do.

Can’t see us ever appointing a favourite son as coach when he’s never coached before. Glad supporters aren’t caught up in the fact it’s Grant in this position.

Grant was ok (not brilliant) in the media but never struck me as an extremely savvy bloke. Would prefer people in those positions come from outside the club usually and just be the best credentialled.

If he’s not up to it he should go.

I’m wary of going to early but I don’t believe keeping Bevo and clearing out and improving the assistants is an option any more. That’s what should’ve happened last season. It’s just gone too far now and just don’t think it’s capable of being turned around.

I also thought Dimma, Buckley and Goodwin should have been fired before the lead their teams to GFs though.

Kane Cornes going for the jugular. The only one who talks sense about our club on footy classified.
He hates Bevo though. Has been gunning for him ever since that (admittedly way over the top) rant Bevo gave after Cornes slotted Treloar for looking disinterested.

Regardless of whether Bevo deserves the sack, Barrett and Cornes (and Morris, though no one would gaf) will always call for it.

And yeah I agree with what many are saying about clearing out assistants I just don't think that's enough at this point, it's like we are one season too late the clear out should of been done last year and we see how we go this year with a new team around Bev, I feel the players have just dropped their heads now and there is no way of getting them back

Was looking at some coaching panels the top clubs have. Pies line coaches consists of Bolton, Leppitsch, Selwood, Skipworth. So maybe getting a couple of former head coaches to whoever replaces Bevo should be the way to go. Get Dew & Bucks to assist with a coach like Lappin running the helm.

Plenty felt that way in ’18 but they came back.

There was also talk Rocket had lost the players in ‘07 but we bounced back (with a reshuffle and Rocket taking on a lot less responsibility outside of his main role).

We are all guessing what’s causing our problems but no one on here knows for sure. I just hope the club does. If the players are done with Bevo then he obviously will have to go. If it’s, say, issues with assistants or a bungled fitness program then I’d rather they fix that first.

Frankly I'm a bit disgusted by the overreactions to our recent losses, and the calling for Bevo's head just a couple of seasons post our last Grand Final appearance.

What other coach on the market would have a CV even close to Bevo?
It's not just the 2 GF's, Premiership and consistent finals appearances. It's that those achievements occurred at the Bulldogs. Prior to 2016 many of us had begun to despair that we would make a Grand Final in our lifetimes let alone win a Flag. Many good coaches before him tried and failed, some who had great successes at richer and more powerful clubs. If we roll the dice, we may get another great and successful coach straight away, but history suggests the odds are most definitely against it.

For all of the rubbish about us having such a great list, one that Bevo has supposedly under achieved with, perhaps the question should be asked 'why weren't those supposedly great players able to deliver on Sunday?' How about them taking on a bit more responsibility for the loss? It wasn't Bevo out there missing tackles, handballs and shots on goal.

Of course, Bevo has his fair share of flaws, every person and coach does. I understand and share everyone's frustration with the current situation, particularly when it comes to team selection. However, we need to consider the whole package, because there are a lot of positives that more than offset those flaws that people seem to be fed up with.

People also seem to forget that we lost 2 top tier players from last year's team in Dunkley and Hunter. Players of that level don't grow on trees and take time to replace. We are still to receive some of our compensation for last year's trading in this year's draft. On top of those losses we have had more than our fair share of bad luck with injury this year.
We have also had some very up and down performances from some of our most talented young players, but that happens with young players. We sometimes need to give as much patience to a 3rd or 5th year player going through a rough patch as we show for a 1st year rookie.

If we show a similar level of patience with our coach as we would like to see him show some our favourite players when they are going through a tough patch, then we may end up being rewarded in the future.

I hope that Bevo and Granty are true to their word and weather the current storm.

Bevo's coaching story could still have a successful third act left in it, and if it does, I'd much prefer it to occur at the Bulldogs.

Kane Cornes just ripped Bevo a new one vented all the frustrations many have mentioned on here. Don't normally rate him but he was spot on there
Kane Cornes is a shockingly biased media commentator who almost invariably has a personal agenda that skews his views.

It was revealing that he made mention of Bevo's run ins with various media pundits during his rant as I think this sits at the heart of the anti-Beveridge media barrage that we have been subjected to in 2023.

Something is clearly wrong is the state of Denmark, however. What needs to happen?

He’s also noticeably pulled punches with Hinkley despite Hinkley pulling a season like our 2023 every second year.

Cornes was criticizing Beveridge as far back as 2020 when he was playing guys like Dunkley and Bontempelli in the ruck. This was back when English was still struggling badly to compete physically and it cost us the game against Geelong.

Just about everyone else in the media is fooled by Beveridge's "good bloke" act. Listening to Neil Mitchell babbling on today about what a "great person" Beveridge was, and how us Bulldog supporters wanting him sacked is "disgraceful" was genuinely cringeworthy.
