I have my doubts that the club could afford all of Ratten, Dew and Lade together + Bevo under the soft cap.

This assistant coaching group doesn't excite me at all.

Only issue with Sweet is his around the ground impact

Remember earlier in the year, one of the coaches said they want him to get a higher disposals impact

Sweet looks like he'll be selected as the ruckman in the VFL Team of the Year

If there's one thing Smith can do it's fight and scrap for every inch and kick goals out of nothing and we could do with a bit of that, so I'd be happy with him onboard in some role.

Just don’t think he’s what we need right now. Essendon are still in the bin now so hard to say it reflects completely on his coaching performance but he just seemed like a deer in the headlights when he was there.

I suspect it will have to wait until VFL side finishes for anything to really happen.

Nothing exciting will happen this off season. Not sure how the club intends to generate any hype for next season. It'll be more of the same, only difference is the list will be even older and Bevo will be even more stale and mentally cooked.

Going to the VFL yesterday made me a touch more bullish on our chances.

West (GuN!) and Garcia are ready to play a consistent role in the guts next year.

I do think Mclean has finally found his legs.

I think Gallagher looks pretty good.

I would upgrade my expectations a bit now and say if we hit at the draft/in the off-season we can be competitive still with good coaching and luck.

If we botch the draft and have bad injury luck with Garcia the cliff moves closer but those are ifs.

My updated position is: Bevo needs to reinvent the roles of Macrae and Daniel and he needs to give extended run to Baz, Garcia and West in the midfield. If he doesn’t and we have another year like this one he should probably be moved on end of next year.
