selling Gabba site for profit/park

QSAC - 1.6B (with limited/no legacy, no transport)
Now Suncorp - 1B (not needed)
Gabba maintenance - 0.6B (will be probably 1B too, still crap and basically done after 2032)

It reeks of corruption , they can't be that stupid .
$1 billion on an upgrade of Suncorp , just for the opening and closing ceremonies.

If I didn't like footy & cricket so much I'd say they don't bloody deserve a nice new stadium considering they've been asleep at the wheel for so long with nothing to say.

But it's us the general public that are also the losers if we don't receive a new stadium so we have to fight for it even if they don't.....hopefully they are going to help us supporters and fans at some point? It's not like they don't stand to massively benefit is it!!

It was built in 2003, and the expected life of a stadium these days is around 30 years until concrete cancer starts eating away at it. What's the bet it will need another big upgrade end of next decade?

Graham Quirk said on an interview posted on here earlier today that a lot of it will be compliancy based/behind the scenes, disability access, new sails and related structures, raised up big screens so you slightly increase capacity. Other outlets have mentioned, media facilities upgrade, air conditioning, lighting, electrical infrastructure.

Once Miles and co give the contract to one of their benefactors there will be some serious gluttony at the government money trough.

Better to break the contract now rather than throw away billions with no decent long term infrastructure and making Brisbane a laughing stock to the rest of the world. There will be very little money coming in via Olympic revenue anyway with the tinpot stadium they have decided on. It is truly the most baffling decision with zero benefit to Brisbane from holding the Olympics at all.

Even if the Olympics are cancelled the Gabba still needs a significant upgrade at the very least and more likely demolish it and a new oval Stadium is needed.
