BREAKING: 9News can reveal exclusive details on the future of the Gabba.

Seems to be that senior LNP figures are saying 'the Gabba is the front-runner option', however, Tim Avier does say that it'll depend on what the 100 day review recommends.

Oh how wonderful that three of them, including the chair, are property developers, or look after property developers' interests. It's great that there's such a big focus on the most important outcome from these games - the ability of property developers to profit from it.
I am sure someone is going to profit from building Brisbane Arena and or a new/rebuild stadium.
The taxpayer will hopefully profit with any transport infostructure build leading up to the games

If you are worried about parks etc the 3 tiers of government have agreed that the games will be climate positive.
Carbon offsets will be required to achieve this target if necessary.
They will also have to follow all the other IOC conditions. I don't see an issue with who is on the Authority.
Better developers etc than experts from other arears that have no idea how a large building process works.

The 2-year pulldown planned for the Gabba was to be done in a green way.
That's why it was going to take 2 years to complete and way more expensive to do adding to the overall costs.
Another reason to not pull the Gabba down at this time.
Keep it going for Lions and cricket and then T20 during the games.

Annoying, but not unexpected. This could be either be because they've already decided in their mind re Gabba rebuild, or just maintaining their previous stance of 'no new stadium', ready for a backflip when expert panel comes with a convincing argument for a Vic Park stadium.

Again, until something significant comes along (panel report), they are hardly going to change their position. It is better to hold stance then change later, to look like 1) you are keeping your word, and 2) you are open minded, in the face of an overwhelming argument from subject experts.

One thing I hope they haven't forgotten in the midst of all this is the whole reason for this matter. We are only here due to cost of living issues, so Labor govt didn't want to look bad by spending money on "new" stadium, and LNP followed suit to avoid criticism and losing votes in the lead up to the election. Now they're in government, the focus should be on best option for the Olympics, and the legacy benefits beyond. David Crisafulli has repeatedly said he wants us to be proud, not embarrassed on the world stage, with "generational infrastructure" as a long term outcome. Tim Mander says he wants people to get excited over the Olympics, and the opportunities it brings to our state. Those statements, at least on the surface, sound more promising.

if they go down this path ill protest at Jarrods house, I have messages from him telling me how bad an idea the Gabba rebuild is, all for them just to do it would be actually unbelievable
This was in the replies to that tweet:

What a turd Bleijie is, one of the most unlikeable politicians I've ever seen, and that's saying something.

Crisafulli should bring his party into line as a good leader would do.
No more MPs comments to the media until after the 100-day review and a decision gets made.
The exception being from him. That way he only has himself to blame for any misconceptions.
One person is enough to feed the media on the subject over the long Christmas break.
The party has only been sworn in for a few days and his troops are already running off at the mouth.

It looks like there is only 1 more sitting day this year being Tuesday 10th December 2024.
State parliament resumes on the 18th February 2025.

Upon resuming parliament, it is only 6 days before he gets the draft from the new Authority on their recommendations.

The Gabba rebuild back on the agenda eh?

Ahhhh the Brisbane Circus continues :tearsofjoy:

What a mess for the Lions, they are in desperate need of a new & larger stadium...but go into the summer break with all this uncertainty about where their short term future will even be.....potentially off to the Gold coast for 5 years. This was the component that really tripped up Anna....and I guess all the school protesters will get back to work over Christmas too now.

Or is that the plan?!? Perhaps the protesters are Vic Park's best proponents and with their continued protest in addition to the Lions & CA voicing concerns about no footy in Brisbane for 5 years will pre-empt a U turn being made when the committee come back with the Vic Park recommendation & Crisafulli decides to back it!

I walked past Vic park last week it reminded me how close to the city and how massive it is.....compared to the tiny Gabba site. Far nicer an area too without all the traffic noise & pollution everywhere. It is interesting though that the news highlight the proximity to the casino......wonder if there's some vested interests there as I wouldn't think that should be a high priority?

Building a stadium that is tier 1 and can be easily expanded in the future should be more of a priority as the Gabba will always have the size limitiation and not be expandable. If we are building for the future it may as well be sized for the future....

A gabba rebuild and 4 years out of Brisbane would be worse than a new stadium imo. So damaging.

It could be some smart game plan from christafulli to publically push the gabba option to make the public want Vic park even more, softening the look of the backflip on no new stadiums by the narrative being 'he did what was best for qld in the end'. The way he's handled this whole thing I'm not sure he's that smart though.

So which day 1-100 will they uncover anything not already in in previous ‘enqiries’?

Will the enquiry itself have kpis?
The Sports Venue Review, led by Quirk, only looked at the Stadium, Brisbane Arena, & minor sports venues.

The 100 day review is looking at everything. It is also noteworthy because the Board will be the main planners of Olympic infrastructure & related stuff.

In the Quirk review terms of reference, they were not allowed to look at quite a few things including Athletes villages
As you pointed out the new Authority has a lot more scope in the 100-day review.
It could actually be too much really. They will have to split the workload a fair bit to achieve everything.

The two main inclusions (or not specifically excluded) this time can now be considered.

(1) Proposed sports not officially approved were not to be included in Quirks review with regard to stadium use.
Without allowing for this, the knock-on effect for stadiums is huge.
T20 cricket is not officially approved, will be big and needs two stadiums. That being The Gabba and Carrara in my opinion.

(2) They were not to look at any private or private/government funding arrangements which is now allowed.

The best outcome is if they’re slowly softening the narrative. Hard to know.

The issue is I don’t think the review is going to say Victoria Park and then daylight. Much more likely to present whatever options are viable within a number of reasonable parameters and then the government will exercise discretion. So keep expectations low.

Going down to the MCG the last two years has really hammered home that there’s so much potential for a new a better Gabba or other stadium there is.

I love the Gabba so much despite its age, but there’s so much potential to elevate it to greater heights with a full rebuild or new stadium elsewhere.
