New stadium is more likely than not I think. Lots of benefits to Victoria Park as already covered.

In terms of gauging how the politicians are thinking - see the Crisafulli/Schrinner double act, where the former says "don't think we need new stadium" and the latter jokes "we might need two stadiums". No way they haven't already come to some consensus, and this public display of different positions is to help obfuscate matters until nobody remembers what the original point was any more.

Then when the 100 day review comes down, if they are strongly in favour of new facility eg VP eith private investment, government and accept their recommendation and explain away their change in stance.

i reckon we will get Vic Park, built in line with perth stadium funding model so state's cost will be limited to 40% of the total cost, with private sector picking up the 60% in return for 30 years exclusive rights.

i reckon there is a chance they will cancel the indoor stadium and instead do swimming at Gold Coast
The feds funding agreement will shift same quantum of funding to stadium

I think that is a very sensible take. It will all be in the narrative build then for the Gov, something the previous Gov just couldn’t work out.

Channel 10.
The good old media already having a go at Crisafulli for not stating "no new stadium" in the terms of reference as he said he would.
Played some old footage showing him quoting just that. He tried to deflect.

In the not to distance future channel 10 will run something stating Brisbane needs a new stadium and any idiot would know that one is needed for the Olympics.

Isn't the Brisbane Live venue tied into Federal funding? Why would it be canned?

For me Brisbane Arena/Live should never have got considered for any funding in the first place.
It is not necessary for a successful Olympics
In my opinion it falls under the catagory of "necessity" and as you say is part of the state & federal agreement.
Catherine King MP federal Infostructure minister recently stated this project was too far advanced to consider halting.
But that is weird as no validation report has come back for the new site.
Surly whatever stage it is at, getting out would not be more than what this review will cost with delays etc.

Below from the terms of reference.
My reading which could easily be not correct is.
Brisbane Arena/Live is not necessary for swimming, probably not feasible (waiting for validation report) and it is in the agreement so this should be reconsidered.
The agreement has been changed before, it just needs the federal government to agree
...............................
Below from the terms of reference

New, upgraded and temporary venues: Assessment of the necessity, location, feasibility, delivery approach, overlay requirements and long-term impact of proposed venues (including all projects identified within the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games).

And yet we also have this.
Trying to work out what the government will or should do is very frustrating

Necessity of 'new venues' included in 100-day review

“New” venues have been included in the scope of the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority 100-day review.

But it’s understood only ones that have already been proposed excluding highly touted proposals at Victoria Park and Hamilton.

On this, didn't the old terms of reference state it was to look at only proposed venues, coz I remember suggesting Vic park at the time and someone said it wasn't an option, coz it wasn't in the Miles review terms or reference. They ended up making the suggestion anyway.

On another note, i just watched the interviews from today. There were two allies on the stage in Schinner (who wants Vic park) and wells (who's a lions fan).

Cristifulli is a good speaker and did well, Wells was disappointing in that she seems to be pushing albo's barrow instead of the lions (I might be just skeptical, but I'm sure rugby league superfan in albo doesn't want a new afl stadium in 'r.l heartland' and that's why he never offered to chip in, his bestie in Peter v'landy's would have warned him of the danger it poses for even more afl growth in QLD).

But yeah, I would have liked to have seen Wells flying the flag a bit more, instead of all the corporate talk, but hopefully she's more supportive behind the scenes.

Private investment seems likely listening to this.

There will be no new stadium

I don’t believe we need a new stadium

The soft landing is painfully slow but moving in the right direction, I suppose.

I still dunno why he even puts himself in this position though. Why not just say 'look I've said all along I don't think we need a new stadium, but it's in the hands of the review committee now and I don't want to predict or influence due process'.

Because politicians are gonna politick. They spend far more time worrying about their political points and the optics of things, rather than just getting on with things.

I think because ultimately it is his government that is going to have to make a call and saying the above can be pitched as an effective backflip when there is now going to be 100 days of dead air. And importantly we don’t know what the report will say.

His position is already watered down but to the average voter it sounds unchanged.

It may slowly be watered down even further over the next few months in the lead up to the release of the report once they have a better idea of what it’ll say.

Do you think he already knows what he wants and has chosen specific people he knows on the committee, to spit out a certain result? It kinda feels that way to me, coz usually these situations they say 'Let's wait till the process runs it's course' but he can't help but to give opinions when questioned.

Probably

Election results had to be fully counted and certified first. Also, the review couldn't start until the group was created, which needed Parliament to legislate it.

A few posters started a countdown shortly after the election.
On timeframes the review started today according to Crisafulli and that is about as quick as it could be achieved.

Both sides of parliament were sworn in on Wednesday, that was basically it for the day.
First actual workday was yesterday, and the Games bill passed. No senate to stop the process.
Today the new Authority panel was announced.
However, finding the right people would have been in the process from just after the election.
The Premier would have had to get their acceptance all lined up in that time.
It would not surprise me if others were approached but declined due to commitments.

Starting from today the draft report has to be in government hands by the 23/02/2025
The 100 days ends on Sunday 9/03/2025
That is only 68 working days excluding weekends and public holidays to the 9/03/2025. Just 58 days till that draft is due.
They have a lot of work to do in that timeframe

Lions play the OR on March 6th, 2025.

Not needed. Do it post Olympics at Gabba site.
Brisbane Live was needed before the Olympics was announced, and not as a sporting venue. Delaying it until after the olympics doesn't make sense when there is dedicated funding.

Because he's way too skittish as a politician. He told people what he thought they wanted to hear while in opposition, and now he feels he can't deviate from that. He dug a hole for himself and would rather keep digging than just climb out.

Also makes sense to delay it until after the Olympics, as it isn’t necessarily required for the Olympics.
Makes more sense to build a new Stadium with the Olympic funding as it is more of a need for the actual Olympics.
Stadiums are the centre piece for an Olympics and when we have an ageing stadium that doesn’t meet the requirements it make perfect sense.

Also the best spot for a new indoor centre is the gabba site imho. But thats needed for continuing access from now til 2032 and the games itself.
So given the olympic purpose was swimming that can be moved and this arena delayed until the ideal site becomes available.

I honestly think that most people want a new stadium especially for an Olympics Games. The fear he would have had was for the Campaign that Labour would have run against him, had he said that he will build a new Stadium.
As they will if that is the outcome of the review. But atleast he is now in power.
