Gallucci and Atkins commit until 2020

No one else wants him traded, if he can deliver to his potential.

Yep, I’ll admit that I’ve said Atkins needs to take a big step up this year. Even said if he doesn’t he should be on the table come trade time.. I see him in the same boat as Milera... packed with talent and potential and can grow into a future champion of the club but he needs to be harder at the ball, put more effort into applying pressure on opponents and become more consistent.

I enjoy watching both Milera and Atkins play when they are on but both have a long way to go yet and there is some serious young talent that is going to be competing with these two guys for a position in the side.

Gallucci re-signing is a boon for the club... the more time he spends training, learning and playing with Sloane, Gibbs and the two crouch brothers the better.

Good news on Gallucci. I thought he'd wait to see if he was likely to get games

Re-signing Galluci this pre-season and Doedee last year given their individual circumstances has been really impressive.

There was a reasonable level of concern that they'd take the Watts/Gunston more opportunity ships (not unjustifiably so)

I guess sometimes not parading them in the shop window - like we did with Lever - pays off :p

The contract extension for Galluci might be an indicator the coaches have given some hint to him that there will be more game time this year?

Hopefully Atkins can go one step further and be more cleaner under pressure this year. He's still young and still has scope for further improvement.

Whilst the club doesnt talk to us that much it is good to know that the work behind the scenes never stops. Well done team.

Who was it who said Gallucci was a prime candidate to leave after this year?

Was never going to happen
They rarely leave when they havent established themselves as first 22 players. Reality is no one would be banging down his door at this point to get him to their club. If he kicks on the next couple of years then he is a risk to go.

So did Lever....

I still don't see Gallucci breaking into our best 22 this year.

Credit to him for sticking it out and wanting to make it at a good club.

Imo, Gallucci will play most games as the Cameron replacement. We need his speed & tackling pressure in the side.

I see him slotting into Cameron's role.

But I also think Knight could play it as well and is ahead of Gooch.

Good to have this problem though

There is room for both as Knight & Cameron played last year together.

We said the same thing to Wigg to get him to re-sign and it never happened.

Yep agree, although he seems to have a level, loyal head on his shoulders

Then again, Lever appeared that way too

On what I've seen their fathers in particular are chalk and cheese.....And his father's not Brian [boofhead] Taylor's next door neighbour.:)

Kind if surprised Gallucci signed for three years. He would be a walk up start at a few clubs but can't get a regular game here.

Thought he would only be a year.

he's a walk up start this year for us seeing he is the only ready to go small forward.

Not sure what we said to Wigg, but there is a difference in that Gooch already had a taste of AFL action with us. Also, Gooch arguably has more upside than Wigg and can play in more positional roles.
