those number 1 picks got us back to square 1. we made our own bed so we have to sleep in it

No doubt & I don’t disagree, just pointing out to your fellow fan that his club was also “rewarded” for cheating ;-)

Who did you lose to FA that didn't grant you a compo pick? I can't believe Carlton if all clubs complaining they get stiffed by the AFL. The club who gets handouts through extremely generous fixtures every year. The club who was allowed to pay Judd under the table through Visy for years. The club who was never investigated for tanking even though one of your coaches admitted it on two separate occasions.

Give me a spell.
Do some research, we have lost more then 1 free agent and never received anything from the afl in return.

God you make some serious bullshit up, you quoted me saying they should either scrap it all together or bring it back to a clear cut criteria for who gets PP. I don't care who gets them I just want it to be consistent across all clubs and not left up to the AFL's questionable judgement calls.

Go rant your unrelated bullshit to someone else and actually respond to what I said.

Again do some research

Carlton have only lost Eddie Betts and Jarrad Waite to free agency, unless they have delisted the player first.

Daisy Thomas was signed the same year as Eddie so no compensation needed.

Jarrad Waite was 31 which was most likely deemed to old to receive compensation

Why thankyou for confirming it is a chook lotto decided by what a handful of men think at the time.

The no formal priority pick isn't that suprisising given this whole assistance package is about helping the Gold Coast Suns. Carlton are only included because through sheer ineptness they've somehow ended up worse than a club on life support in the Suns.

Why would the AFL care about fast tracking Carlton's development? Do you think old Gil gives a damn about whether or not Carlton compete for finals in 2020 or 2021?

The AFL focused on turning the Suns fortunes around and has probably decided access to mature age players will be better than a solitary pick that will probably end up requesting a trade home in a couple of years.

Turning around any bottom side is good for Gil and his mates. Particularly a formerly big club like Carlton that can have a surge in memberships and can deliver big TV ratings.

The CEO of 7 is quoted as saying Collingwood winning is good for their business. Carlton winning is the same.

They've cleverly crafted a way for Carlton to get two 2nd round picks that creates less outrage than Carlton getting 1 end or middle of first round pick. You've got to give them points for that one.

I'm not so sure it's as blatant as the Demetriou days where he got a huge bonus for making bigger profits each year but no doubt Gil has a fairly hefty performance pay component of his salary. The AFL will make more money if Carlton rise up the ladder.

Lol. You’ve lost two players to free agency, one you got no compensation for due to signing thomas. The other was 31 years old. Yeah, you were stiffed by the AFL.

I agree that turning around a bottom side is good. I just think it's obvious that Carlton are going to bounce up the ladder at some point so the AFL isn't too concerned about giving them assistance . The AFLs main focus is clearly the Suns imo

This is a bit defeatist i think. Here's a list of guys we've picked as rookies:
Ben Ronke
Lewis Melican
Jake Lloyd
Dane Rampe
Harry Cunningham
Heath Grundy
Nick Smith
Daniel Robinson
Kieren Jack
Tom Papley
Callum Sinclair (Rookie drafted by Eagles)

All best 22 except maybe Robinson. All except Robinson would be in your best 22 as well (or would in their prime). There are good quality players out there. If you expected the AFL to give you pick 3, or pick 12 and get another star, then sure, you can be disappointed. But if you just need good players who are going to be best 22, then there are many, many state league players who are better than the players you have on your list already. Maybe not a gun like Kelly, but there are lots who will make you better then you are, you just need to identify them.
and we got agresta at the start of the year who probably helped pick those guys up, so im pretty excited to see what he can do

If Gil isn’t he’s not doing his job, the entire commission would like to have a competitive Carlton = $$$$$ for all concerned parties.
Id hate to guess the amount of wasted $’s thrown at a gold coast team. Too many fat cat egos on the commission to admit they f——d up.....twice!!
When will the experiement end ??

Any Carlton fans who don't see the value in adding experience to their list over more kids is moronic. Their high draft picks will continue to stagnate and stall and they'll have to rebuild again unless they can actually win some games and teach the kids elite standards.

Not just getting a game because they were pick 12, getting a game because they bloody earnt it.

Jacob Weitering in another System would be a ****ing star already, but he has had his confidence destroyed so badly he's stalling. It's gonna happen to more of their high picks aswell until the team improves

State league players are going to do jack s*** for these teams. You are only going to get role players from the state leagues.

1) Our players weren't banned, so our performance to finish last was real.
2) Essendon have been fined heavily and lost draft picks for drugs scandal.
3) Essendon have also been fined heavily and lost draft picks for salary cap rorting.
4) Essendon are the only AFL club to have been fined heavily and lost draft picks for multiple crimes.

Anyone who things a fringe type with clear limitations is going to make a difference in a bottom side is moronic.

These vfl pick ups play a role where their deficiencies are covered up by more experienced and quality players around them, surround them with kids and they will be horribly exposed and sent back to the VFL.

The best thing for Carlton and GC to do with these picks is to package them up with draft picks to improve draft position/on trade for actual afl quality players. I.E trade Mcadam + 25 to say hawthorn for pick 15 and use that on MM.

Options that came to mind if we're looking.

Noah Answerth -
Oscar Chapman
Laitham Vandermeer
Mathew McGannon
Luke Foley

Those are some solid older players worth considering.

Foley > Vandermeer > Answerth > Chapman > McGannon

That would be my rough order and I would be gunning for Foley super hard.

Looks like the AFL read this list and said, screw you LM, no dice!

At least you don't need to paid extra for too many top pick to stayed after two year . Pick 2 and pick 3 plus Brodie , Scrimshaw , Bowes , Ainsworth will be good enough for a few year . A bit like make the go home turnover slower . GWS nearly all the top pick gone to Carlton.

Saad was a state league player.
